The request to hold off on the help and strained smile were enough for him to deduce that. Normally, when he came across people like this, he bluntly said he was helping out no matter what, and went to work right away; however, he had to tread more carefully around Adina. Terrence hesitantly nodded and sighed. "I... Understand if you don't want the help now. The least I can do for now is provide you at least some materials. Got some people who owe me stuff anyway." As much as he tried to keep his emotions in check, a small frown made its way onto his face, and he sounded like he was begging near the end. By this time, he slowly sat down on the porch, the old thing creaking as he sunk down on the chair. Terrence nodded when she asked if tea was okay. "Tea's perfect. No milk or anything, please." He smiled a smile that would have made a good amount of "fan-girls" he made from his travels squeal in delight. Just thinking of them made him shiver slightly. He hoped he didn't make any in the years he was at the Peninsula, as he relaxed on the porch. |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign, top] | She smiled a little sadly at his generosity, it seemed that he genuinely wanted to help her, but she simply couldn't accept. However, despite her hesitancy, she nodded in acceptance nonetheless. "Um...thank you. Truly, it's very kind of you." With a curt nod she opened the door to her house. "No milk, right. I'll be right back."
Once within the walls of her dusty, old, homey-home, she sighed tiredly. If this what daily life was going to be like, keeping up appearances so people didn't 'hate' her, it would be a very challenging life indeed. Back in her old town, she needn't have kept up such a facade, she simply did and said things honestly, but of course most found that kind of attitude to be obnoxious. 'And now instead of being an obnoxious, rich-girl brat...I'm a reclusive, ditzy-hermit. At least the people here aren't calling me a fake.' she sighed deeply as she started on making a sandwich for her guest. 'There's no way to win with this socializing stuff, is there?'
Moments passed, and soon enough she was bringing a tray outside to the patio for her guest. "Here you go." She announced as she expertly kicked a small side table in front of her guest, nearly making it tip over, but it seemed luck was on her side today as it landed back on it's legs. "Whew, close call." She placed the tray on the table, and started to list each item that was on it. "Alright, I haven't gone to the grocery yet, so I made a simply sandwich for you. There's orange pekoe tea, no milk and you can add sugar or honey if you wish. I also brought some croissants and a couple of shortbread cookies. Please help yourself." she smiled encouragingly and sat on the porch railing.
"Oh!" She teetered for a moment, but was able to balance herself. "I should probably replace the railings first." She mumbled, as she put a bit of pressure on the railing, it swayed and if she had wasn't careful, it could possibly break under her weight. |

He stared up at the sky, and leaned back on the chair. His mind was all over the place, making a mental list of his groceries and calculating the amount of days off he accumulated over the years. He was going to have to use a good amount of his off days to help out Adina... Meh, I don't really use them for much else. His thoughts were broken when a small table slid in front of him. It looked like it was about to fall over, but it managed to land back on all four legs, much to Terrence's relief. As Adina laid out the food, the smell hit him; even though it was simple, he could tell it was going to be delicious. A smile graced his figures as he looked up at Adina. "Thanks Adina. This all smells wonderful."First, he took the tea and took a small sip. It was your everyday black tea, but it was nice. Next was the sandwich. It wasn't bad, but he's had better. When he finished, he took another sip of tea, and looked at the croissants and cookies. The croissants were very good, and they seem fresh too, and the cookies were even better. He only ate one of each before looking at Adina. "Hey, Adina, you should have some too. The cookies and croissants are awesome. They taste like the ones from that general store, and those are really good." |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign, top] | As her guest ate, she quietly sat and kept her head down, a habit she'd mastered at young age, practically the first lesson her parents ever taught her. 'You may be seen, but cannot be heard.'
She used that time to think of her current troubles. At the very moment, her priority was trying to pay for her house. She'd given the down payment, and was already paying a monthly amount for the mortgage, but whatever money she saved up was slowly dwindling, and soon she would find herself living paycheck to paycheck. 'If worse comes to worse, I won't be able to pay for the repairs on this house. But with...um...Terrence was it? With his help I might be able to save a bit of money...' She frowned at the thought. She felt as if she was simply using this kind man for her own selfish gain. 'B-But...he's the one that offered, and he insisted...'
She was brought from her thoughts, when she heard him invite her to lunch. "O-oh! Uh...N-no thank you. I made the lunch for you, it would be rude for me to eat any. Also I'm really not that hungry." She tried to smile genuinely but still it felt strained. She sighed, she was refusing his kind offer again, it seemed like that was going to be a normal thing for her. She looked up at the man, but lowered her gaze soon after. "I'm sorry, I know I'm being a bit difficult, especially since you've been so generous to me. And to be honest I really could use the help, but...I would feel like I'd just be...using you..." |

She was acting like a little kid that was recently scolded by her parents. It was really unnerving to Terrence. And she denied his request again. Her smiles were getting closer to genuine, but his trained eye could still see that she was forcing it a little. But, at last, it seemed as though he had gotten some kind of answer from her. He was pretty sure that wasn't the only reason why she was refusing his help and kind offers, but he wasn't going to push it any time soon. "Using me? I wouldn't exactly call it "using me" if I willingly want to help out. I hate to say it, but when I'm stubborn like this, there really isn't much you can do to change my mind."He flashed her a big grin as he chuckled, and motioned her to sit down next to him. "Y'know, if it makes you feel any better, you can pay me back by teaching me how to bake like you do. These things are awesome!" |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign, top] | Well he certainly was stubborn. She wasn't sure how long it had been, but she sure felt a little nostalgic, even if their attitudes were starkly different. Still, she preferred her friends way of stubbornness. Which was basically ignoring her and doing what he wanted despite her wishes. "I suppose not. Stubborn men never listen. I should have learned that a long time ago." She smiled nostalgically, but she was shaken from her thoughts by Terrence's gesture to sit beside him.
"I think it's safer if I stay here. If we put anymore weight on that thing, especially after you've eaten, I believe it'll finally give out in it's old age." She sighed as she looked at the swing. It was barely holding up Terrence as it was. The chains that supported it were rusty, and as she looked up the roof that the chains were connected too was slightly rotting from wear due to weather and old age. "You shouldn't probably stay long on that, lest you have an accident." She chuckled and returned her gaze back to the man.
He suggested she teach him how to bake as repayment, and nearly laughed out loud at the prospect. Instead she settled for a small snicker as her hand came up to her lips to cover her slight grin. "I'm sorry to say, but you can learn my method of baking from a simple book. The only difference, is what you think of as you bake. I find that a person's feelings affect the finished product." The old cook back in her home had told her the very same line, it had seemed ridiculous at the time, but even as she was making the same recipe, if she was sad at the time, then the finished product would have an almost sour or bitter taste. She wasn't sure if it was the same for others, but it was the way it was for her.
"Actually, Terrence..." She was a little impressed with herself for remembering his name. "I was wondering...do you...perhaps know of anyone that needs a place to stay?" She hadn't wanted to trouble him, it was her problem after all, but he'd been willing to help her with pretty much fixing the house, why not take advantage of his kindness once more to have him help her with a little financial issue?

When, he followed her gaze, he cringed inwardly and slowly got up, looking up and down at the swing he was sitting on just moments ago. "Yeah... We're gonna have to fix that."He quirked an eyebrow when Adina snickered behind her hand, and sheepishly laughed when she responded. "Drat, you caught me. Almost all my mentors from around the world told me that in some form or another." The first time he's heard it was from his uncle, just after he taught Terrence all the basics. "M'boy, I taught you the basics of cooking. And I know you have the mind to make wonderful dishes. But remember, the true taste comes from here."His hand subconsciously moved over where his heart was as he closed his eyes and smiled nostalgically. "True taste, huh... I still got a long ways to go, don't I, Uncle Walter?" Adina's question broke Terrence out of his thoughts, however, and he jolted a little. A small blush formed when he realized what was going on, and he looked away from Adina, scratching his cheek. "You're l-looking for someone who needs a place to stay? Uh... No, no one really... The Inn kinda takes care of that."Then, a sudden thought came to mind. He was pretty much living and working at the inn. Thus, part of his pay goes back to the inn. Though he isn't complaining with what he's got, having a little extra dough in hand is always a good thing. He blinked a few times and faced Adina again with a curious look. "Say, you mind if I move in?" |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=valign, top] | "Actually, yes. I would mind." She actually made eye contact with him, while her voice held a small hint of something that could be identified as icy contempt. Not that she didn't like the man, but she didn't like the idea of him offering so much.
"I...appreciate what you've already offered, which is to help me with repairing my home. But I am not so selfish as to ask you to pay to live here as well." Her voice was steady, and her hands clasped together on her lap as she held her head high and her back straight. She needed to deal with this like the lady she was taught to be, otherwise she feared Terrence might insist again, and she never did well when people insisted.
"I don't mean to be so...cold. But you've offered enough, more than enough. To take more from you would not be something my conscience will allow. Surely you can understand that?" Her nervousness was getting the better of her, and her tough little act was slowly dissolving as she tried to maintain eye-contact. This was not something she did often, and honestly she'd been taught never to look someone in the eye unless her honor had been insulted.
"Besides...i would not want to take you from a fine home such as the one you currently have. Surely you'd prefer there than to live here. The house is barely standing as it is." And as if to prove her point, the railing that Adina had been sitting on, slightly gave way, almost taking her with him, thankfully, with a little frantic flailing on her part, she was able to catch herself and stay upright. with a bit of embarrassment, her cheeks aflame in rosy hues, she cleared her throat to prevent her voice from squeaking as she excused herself for her unsightly display. "Excuse me, perhaps I shouldn't have been sitting on that."
