history
Ashcroft's childhood consists of a string of uninspiring, uninteresting events that - as a collective - add up to something worth little more than a hastily written bedtime story with no plot. He was told he was special, and then he was shut from the rest of the world - simple as that. His parents were overprotective, see, they didn't want their magically capable son running around with the other kids in the neighborhood - even if they too had the gift. With the first half of his life spent being alone and barely outdoors, Ashcroft busied himself with the basics - reading, looking out the window, practicing speaking in front of a mirror. There was no sob story, no heartbreaking traumatic event - all of it was just plain sad.
When Ashcroft turned twelve, he could still count on his fingers the amount of times his parents allowed him outdoors. Suffice to say, he wasn't exactly practiced in human interactions or even versed in emotions for that matter. He had built an awkward wall around himself, so to speak, it made it difficult for him to read situations or respond to emotions. Oftentimes he would be so straightforward people just outright avoided conversation with him.
Of course, it was just a bit too late for Ashcroft when his parents finally decided to loosen their crushing protection on him. A nineteen year-old Ashcroft was allowed into the open world - but for the first time in his life, he had no idea where it would take him. Even with a job he works hard at he can't help but find himself drifting around aimlessly - like a jellyfish. Or perhaps that isn't the way to describe himself?
Oh well, he'll figure everything out eventually.

- the owner of an arsenal of dry humor mixed with just the right amount of clueless, naive, and a pinch of bluntness - you've got Ashcroft. Emotions and relations are sort of a new thing for him - and his way of thinking is often so straightforward it cuts. Though admittedly, he can get flustered easily.
- not many words in the english dictionary are capable or expressing just how frightfully atrocious Ashworth's ability to read atmospheres and situations is. he would attempt to apply dry wit to situations that simply do not warrant humor.
