Elena was born in a small village, her mother owning and running a fairly successful restaurant, while her father was well known as the most skilled blacksmith in town. Initially, her parents had planned on having her take over the restaurant when she was old enough, since it was a tradition for the women in her mother's side of the family do so. So imagine their shock when, at a very young age, she took an interest in her father's smithing, instead. No matter how much they tried to persuade her, she wouldn't budge. She wanted to be a blacksmith, like her father. At first, her parents were reluctant, but, eventually, they gave in, and her father began teaching her.

Over the years, she honed her skills, learning all of the tricks to the trade from her father. Amazingly, it became clear early on that she had a natural talent that the other villagers hadn't seen since her father began his training. Indeed, it truly looked as though she had found her calling. More years passed, and, eventually Elena had learned all she could. Just as her father had done when his training was completed, it was time for her to strike out on her own and put her training to use. However, rather than stay in the village she grew up in, she opted to find another town to live in. Hearing that a place called Sepalum was in need of a blacksmith, she decided to move there. With mixed feelings, her parents gave their blessings, and, after a heartfelt farewell, they proudly saw her off as she set off to start her new life.

• Though she isn't particularly picky when it comes to food, her favorite is pizza. Unfortunately, she's not a very good cook, only knowing how to prepare things like sandwiches and salads without screwing them up.
  
• Because she spent most of her life learning how to smith, and the village she grew up in didn't place much priority on education, Elena is illiterate. She does know how to do some math, but anything beyond simple addition and subtraction is completely beyond her. She generally tries to hide the fact that she can't read...though, something this obvious rarely stays a secret for very long.
  
• She is an in-the-closet lesbian. She tends to go for women who are a bit older than she is, and she's rather bad at hiding her feelings...if she has a crush on someone, her face will turn bright red if they so much as smile in her general direction. Regardless, she still tries to deny or sexuality, knowing fully well how much of a taboo it is, and fearing what others will think of her if they find out.
  
• There was an incident from when she was little, when she was locked out of her house during a particularly nasty thunderstorm. To make a long story short, her parents didn't know that she would be coming home that night, and the sounds of the raging storm assured that they didn't notice she was at the door until well after she arrived. Ever since then, she's been terrified of thunderstorms.
