Despite having graduated from mandatory schooling and having an intelligence level that could definitely take him places, Dax instead chose to live out of his parents' basement. Being an only child, they don't really have the heart to force him out of the nest. He spends all of his time on his computer, either doing leisurely things, practicing hacking, or programming for money when his funds get low.
Dax's only friends are the town's local gang of miscreants. Despite how they may tease and prod at each other, he feels great affection for them and (secretly) doesn't know what he would do without them.
