Hermes had many brothers and sisters, of which he was the youngest. He had always felt as if he was his parent's least favorite child -- all of his siblings were likeable and talented, unlike how they viewed Hermes. He never felt as if he could compare, regardless of his aptitude for magic even amongst a magical family. However, he always used the ability for self gain rather than anything particularly useful. His father felt it was a waste of potential.
It was no surprise that when Hermes turned eighteen, he left his home and began traveling. It wasn't long before he settled in the peninsula, where he succumbed to a life experiencing the night culture. He gambled, drank, and had fleeting, sexual relationships with others. The inn is his makeshift home that he sleeps in every night, always the same room that he can only pay for using the money gained from gambling. His life is a ritual of alcohol and games of luck, but his happiness fades when he reflects upon his lack of sincere connections with others.
