At least it was supposed to be a bad thing to hope that other people were in pain. And naturally, she wasn't supposed to hope that the people of Primula were supposed to be in some sort of searing agony either. But ugh. It was so boring. There was literally nothing to ever do like this. Darn them for all being you know. Healthy and ... fertile. Or something like that. Dang people were always healthy because they worked the farms and work in general. It was so much different from when she had lived in the city. She'd see people coming in and out of the hospital nearly every day with some sort of accidents or some other unfortunate event. It was a nice change of pace at first, she thought. When she was first settling down into the quiet life of being a doctor in such a small town. But now, she thought. Now it was just downright agonizing to be sitting still and being forced to play solitaire against her will. Well, alright. Not against her will but. Ugh, there was nothing to do that she really wanted to do to begin with. What was she supposed to do?
Go injure her nurses so she'd have something to do? ... if she could even find her nurses to begin with anyway. They had ran off some time ago and she hadn't caught any wind of them lately. It made things a little bit harder now these days, she thought. When she needed things, they weren't there to help her. And when she was bored, she didn't exactly have anyone to talk to. It was annoying, she thought. That was pretty much the only reason she would need nurses. Everyone in the town was healthy and when they weren't? It was always just a small cold or something. Nothing that would have taken very much time to take care of. Aveline groaned, leaning back in her chair. Pushing her feet against the ground to spin just slightly. Geez, what was she supposed to do? The raven haired woman merely glanced at the ceiling, debating going outside and finding something to do. But chances were, she'd just end up lying down and taking a nap or something. Things like that always happened when she tried to do stuff. Either that or maybe she could coerce someone to go make her a pie.
Then again, it was noon. Everyone was probably busy or something. And there was no one in the hospital either but her and her receptionist. ...wait. Wait, her receptionist! Oh goddess, there was hope for her sanity yet! She sat up immediately, moving to swivel her chair around before she pushed off to escape her office on her spinning chair. Aveline swayed just slightly, heading in the direction of the front desk of the building. She didn't exactly have one of the most interesting of receptionists, she thought. In fact, he was rather ... annoying. Not that he tried to harass her or anything. Or that he was overly positive. No, no. Rather, she thought of him to be something of a conceited jackass. Was that rude? Oh well.
Couldn't be helped if that was what she thought, right? And it wasn't like he really knew what she was thinking anyway. Ain't no mind readers alive. Er. As far as she knew. Aveline had always been a firm believer in the mystical world. Although, she supposed it would have come off rather strange considering her profession. She rolled up to the other's desk, crossing her arms and resting them on the bar of the desk. Er, alright. How was she supposed to start a conversation? Just say hi? Or ... or what? Because she didn't really have anything to say to him. She never really er. Talked to him before. "Er," She began, blinking her eyes as she debated the words she needed to say. She didn't want to come off as totally rude or whatever. But no matter how she looked at it, it was really awkward trying to strike up a conversation with someone that she never really talked to before. Especially when they worked around her for so long.
"Are there any calls for me?" Probably not. Especially because ... if there were, people would have shown up by now. Ugh. Good job, she thought. Yes, because that totally made sense to say. "Er. Whatever." She grumbled, leaning forward and resting her head on top of her arms as she examined the other. "What's your name again? Janey or something?" She had already embarrassed herself, right? What harm would it do in making it a little worse? She could live with it anyways.

Man, things were boring. Did anyone do anything in this town? Josiah had grown up here, of course, but things were different when you were a child. You had school and after school you played with your friends. But for an adult, this town was a bore. The city life had been so much different and it wasn't until he moved back to this sleepy little peninsula that he truly missed the atmosphere of the city.
And...well, that wasn't the only reason he missed the city. Nearly every day he had to deal with the disappointment of his dad for...well, everything. It was like nothing the black-haired young man did was good enough. Not that he cared, of course. Josiah had an apathetic streak that ran deep; he just didn't care most of the time. It wasn't necessarily because he was mean, although some could classify him as such.
He should be thankful he had a job, too, but that was boring as well. At least he had a computer to keep him company, but the internet connection was so slow that it took ages for anything to load. It was times like these that Josiah wished he was more inclined to writing. The word processor didn't need to load like a webpage did. Unfortunately he was better versed in science not writing, and sitting down to write a scientific essay just wasn't his cup of tea.
So there he sat, bored out of his mind as he absentmindedly clicked on things on the computer, waiting for a webpage to load like he usually did. Until he heard the scratchy thudding of wheels rolling up behind him, stopping only after he heard a quiet thud.
Looking up, his amber brown eyes met up with bottle green ones, the eyes belonging to the doctor and his employer, Aveline. He couldn't bring himself to call her Dr. Belanger because truthfully Josiah was a jerk and Dr. Belanger just sounded so serious. She was four years younger than him, anyhow, and calling her doctor just gave her a sense of authority that didn't sit well with him.
It was weird that he hadn't talked to her at all yet, even though they worked together, and had for quite a bit of time. He always got here after she did, though, and she always seemed to be holed up in her office even when she didn't have a patient to attend to. He didn't care enough to seek her out so he just sat at his desk and waited for something to happen...and lets just say a webpage loads faster than a customer walks through the door.
"No phone calls," he sighed, answering her question. She sounded a bit awkward but he was too tired today to give her any crap about that. It was a Monday and Mondays always left him a bit off.
When she called him Janey he glanced up at her with a dead-eyed expression. "That's a new one," he mused, shrugging his shoulders a bit. "I'd say close but no cigar but you're really not close at all, Aveline." Just to prove that he knew her name.

She had heard about him prior to hiring him. He had used to live in the town from what little she did know. But that was just about as far as her knowledge went. She didn't particularly care at the time. Really, she just knew that she needed someone to keep her files and appointments organized. Because lord help her if she was expected to do such a thing. She couldn't even keep her clothes organized. She was just relieved that no one ever really visited her outside of needing her to take care of some injury or cold. She wasn't so sure that she wanted any of the villagers to see that train wreck of a loft. She almost shuddered at the notion of having anyone come to see what she lived in. How embarrassing.
Wait. Had he been talking? Oops. She probably should have been paying attention considering that she was the one to have started the conversation in the first place. He didn't seem like he particularly cared whether or not that it was kind of awkward. Part of her wondered if he could even like. Feel the emotion of awkward. Was it even an emotion? Or was it just a word? Er. Whatever, she thought. It wasn't like it really mattered, right? Nothing worth worrying about. Hey, if he didn't have a problem with it. Why should she have a problem with them never really talking either? She shifted in her seat, swaying her hips slightly so that her chair would move with her. He was so boring, she thought. Er. Boring is mean. Maybe she should have said that he just came off like he was more interested in watching paint dry than trying to talk to ... anything with a pulse.
But hey. What did she know? It was just a vibe that she was getting from him. For all she could have known, he might have been a secret party animal or something and was just hiding it to be professional? Nah. No way. She had never really heard of that happening. Aveline merely laughed when the other prompted her again. Yeah, she knew Janey was kind of a long shot. But she couldn't really remember his name honestly. It started with a J, right? So it had to be something close to that. Or ... you know. Just a name would have helped. Maybe she could have called him by his last name or something? Then again. She didn't really know that either. "Well aren't we all smart? Knowing the doctor's first name?" She chimed.
"No but seriously. What's your name?" She pulled her arms away from the desk before scooting behind the other to see what he had been doing on the computer. Was he watching dirty things? Because they were at work. That was a big no no. If she couldn't do it, then no one else could! ... not. Not that she did that. It was weird. But that desk was misleading. It was huge and then there was enough room to hide. Ugh. Now she was just being ridiculous. Her mind liked to wander. What could she say? "What are you even looking at anyway, J ... José?" Pause. "Just kidding."

"Oh, I'm very smart, thank you," he said with his listless expression and bored sounding voice. He understood that she was being sarcastic but, considering his attitude, it was more fun to just tease her. In his own weird way. Besides, Josiah did consider himself fairly smart; he just didn't apply himself. Or whatever.
Keeping his eyes on his computer he kept typing away, doing whatever he was doing, as he spoke to her. "Besides, I'm pretty sure that knowing your first name is common sense, Aveline. I guess that says a lot about why you don't know mine."
No one was really sure where Josiah got his sarcasm and apathy. Sure, his father wasn't the cheeriest guy around but he liked to show it in his disappointment and stubbornness. And Josiah's mom...well, she was a peach. Who didn't love Rosa Waters? And somehow the two of those managed to create an apathetic, sarcastic son who just didn't care enough to do, well...anything. It's not like he was doing work related things on that computer.
"I'm not going to just tell you, that would be giving in. I'm offended you don't know who I am. I mean, you did hire me after all," he said, mocking hurt. To be truthful, it didn't bother him that much. It actually wasn't too bad because it was giving him a source of entertainment for the moment, and that was vital, because the hospital was boring. Very boring.
A bit of a smirk pulled up at the corner of his mouth as she called him Jose, knowing that that was the closest she had gotten to saying his actual name. Was he going to tell her that? Of course not. That would ruin the fun he was having.
"I'm not doing much of anything because the damned internet is so slow," he said, angrily clicking the little red "x" button in the corner of the browser. Well, not angrily, just in a fed up manner. Sometimes the slowness of the internet just got to him and grated on his nerves.
Turning back to Aveline, his brown eyes were still in a dead stare. His usual look. The look of extreme, chronic apathy. Or something along those lines, if there was a "look" of just not caring and not feeling bad about it in the slightest.
"Don't you have work to do? Like, doctorly paperwork? Or was I hired for you to bore to death in this ghost town of a hospital and then bug me?"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=valign,top]doctor, doctor tagged: josiah! words: 814! notes: ugh, rambling again! | It depended on what people constituted as intelligence. There were different kinds now that she thought about it. But what really was being smart anyways? Was it being how you played your cards in the real world? Depended on how successful you were? How many A's you managed to get in school? Way to ask the big questions in life, Aveline. But now that it had been brought up. She was almost curious. He seemed like a smart guy. So why on earth had he ended up here again? Not that she was any better by any means. No one would let her work as a doctor because of how 'young' she was as one. She could just as easily beg to differ. She was getting into her late twenties now, she thought. Good lord. "Smart, eh?" She prompted, thinking over what he may have even possibly studied in. She puffed out her cheeks in slight frustration when the other mocked her. Just because she didn't know his name didn't mean that she couldn't remember them period. She thought she was doing a pretty good job of remembering most of the villagers by this point! It was hard being new in town, she thought.
Goddess, now she wanted to know what his name was! It was darn near eating her alive. What was it even? She knew it started with a J or something. But she couldn't really be sure. And if she didn't figure it out soon, she feared for the worst. What if he just made fun of her for not knowing what his name was? Ugh, it was already bad enough that she couldn't really handle needles herself. And to be completely honest, she wasn't sure why she couldn't either. What kind of doctor wussed out at needles? Jeez, she was horrible. Ack, wait. That had nothing to do with the present situation. It started with a J, ugh. She knew it had to have started with a J. Ended like messiah. She could remember that because he totally saved her ass on filing away things and keeping track of her appointments. Not that she had very many to begin with anyway. Most everyone just came in on their own anyhow. ... J ... siah, right? She just needed to connect the in between.
"I hired you forever ago! That's totally different from now." The doctor grumbled, sighing heavily as she slumped into her chair a bit miserably as she continued to rack her brain for the other's name. She couldn't stand it, ugh. In part, she was thankful that he didn't tell her his name outright. At least this gave her something to do rather than have to end an awkward conversation and return to her office to play solitaire by herself again. Because the hospital was boring. Boring with a capital B. If things like this continued, she might have gone insane. Either that or develop an acute fear of the card game. They didn't have a word for it yet, but they would soon. She'd self diagnose herself if she needed to. Aveline merely watched as the other clicked the x on the browser window. She knew the internet was slow.
If it wasn't, she probably still would have been inside of her office. Watching some silly cat videos or something. Fat cats were the greatest, honestly. Like they'd be so skinny in the front when they were trying to get into a door and then all their fat would get pushed back. She had to try really hard not to laugh out in public when she'd look at such pictures the few times that the internet wouldn't have been as laggy. It just about killed her, she thought. Knowing that they were in the middle of no where with zero ability to contact the outside world. Unless they wrote letters by long hand but no one ever really did those things these days. The mail industry was dying, she thought. Did they even have a post office? What if they were trying to trap her? Luring average Joes like her- wait. Wait, wait, wait!
"Josiah!" She shouted suddenly, her vibrant green eyes widening in surprise as the name came to her. She threw her arms into the air, spinning around in her chair almost too happily for her own good. Josiah. That was his name. How could she not remember a name like that? She could distinctly remember that she had never heard it before herself. Then again, she never really heard of anyone outside of herself being named Aveline either. So whatever, she supposed. "Paperwork is boring." She whined, scooting over towards the other before promptly jabbing him in the arm with her slender fingers. "You're bored too, right? At least I'm giving you something to do instead of stare at a loading page that may never load."

"Good job, it only took you, what..." he said with a deadpan expression, glancing at the clock, "Ten minutes?"
Josiah really wasn't even bothered, but he liked to make fun of people and raise a stink about stuff. Especially when he was bored. And, oh man, was he bored. There was nothing to do with no patients being around, and since there weren't many patients there wasn't a ton of paperwork to do.
Just like Aveline he sometimes wished people would get hurt just so he'd have something to do, even if his contact with the patients was much more minimal than Aveline's...but at least it would give him some forms to process or something.
Births were his favorite. Not to...watch, of course, but there was a unique set of paperwork to fill out and he got to do the stuff with the birth certificate. And then he got to make a visit to city hall. He didn't find any joy in city hall itself, but it gave him a chance to get out into the fresh air and stretch his legs and alleviate his boredom for about an hour.
Unfortunately there had only been one birth since he'd started working. Not that he wanted people to have babies because he could clearly hear the painful cries of the woman giving birth (and that was uncomfortable and not very fun to listen to) but he was simply being selfish, only wanting to alleviate his own boredom.
"Paperwork would be a goddess-send right now," he said, rolling his eyes a bit. It was sad that a menial task like paperwork seemed fun. "If you had any to do, please, let me. I could figure it out, I'm sure." The doctor's paperwork couldn't be that difficult. Besides, he knew a lot of stuff about being a doctor from his university studies, even if he never actually went to medical school or became a doctor.
It was the ultimate irony, he thought. He knew all this stuff about being a doctor and he wasn't one...his father really did get his way, even if he didn't know it. He wondered how his dad would feel if he knew that Josiah had to give shots at the hospital because the doctor was afraid? Unfortunately his resentment got the better of him — his dad didn't deserve to have the pleasure of knowing his son wasn't useless, or something along those lines.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=valign,top]doctor, doctor tagged: josiah! words: 814! notes: ugh, rambling again! | Jerk. He should just have been happy that she bothered remembering at all, she thought. Shouldn't he have just been happy that she finally remembered at all? How embarrassing, she thought. She wished she hadn't told him anything at all. Not at all. But there was nothing that she could do to try and change his mind or anything. He'd totally mock her or something. She needed to learn his name for sure so that she wouldn't let it slip up again. She definitely didn't want to slip up again and give him even more reason to not you know. Respect her and stuff. He was a jerk anyways. She sighed, leaning over and resting on the desk. There weren't even any papers scattered across the table. He really must have filled everything out and organized all her appointments. Clearly not even a thing in the world to do now, she thought. Maybe they could do something interesting instead of just rolling around in the office.
"I still think that it's boring." She replied, grumbling a little to herself. She begged to differ. Paperwork was still boring as hell. Maybe they could have gone and did something else? Something for them all to do? Yeah, that sounded like a good idea. They could always hang out or something. That sounded more fun than anything. But would Josiah even be the kind of guy that would want to hang out? He sounded like one of those guys that would go places but only because he had to. Not because he wanted to go. Like social gatherings were not his thing and whatever. Maybe that would be the case? Whatever. Maybe she could assign him the task? Or maybe he would have just been bored enough to actually go along with it? It would have been pretty funny if he did.
Aveline moved to get up from the chair, the doctor moving to ease her lab coat off of her shoulders. "You know what?" She chimed, reaching over and grabbing the other's sleeve. Tugging on it gently as she tried to earn his attention once again. Yeah, they should head out or something! The day was wonderful! It would have been a great day! Take a walk or go get some baked goods or something - probably from a local bakery - or something. It sounded like a good idea. "Let's go somewhere! Why should we stay inside if no one's gonna come, right?" She glanced at the clock, letting go of the other's sleeve and heading in the direction of the door. Consider it her off hour! She worked hard all day! She deserved this! Well. She worked hard in theory. Whatever. She just wanted him to go out with her or something. So they could go and have some fun!
"It's almost time to close anyways. And if anyone needs me, we'll still be in town right? So it won't be anything bad!"
