Well, really, he couldn't sleep in that late, considering he had things to do in the morning to prepare for breakfast, but even so...sleeping past eight in the morning was a bummer for him. It was almost like his body's internal clock was set to wake up between six and seven, despite the fact that it was an ungodly hour to some.
After showering and cleaning himself up for the day, he went on his rounds that he did every morning...collected room service slips from each door, made sure the cleaning supplies were well-stocked, and stopped by the kitchen to ensure that the cook had showed up and that the food supplies were all doing well.
Seeing that their fruit supplies were running low, Callum went to the back room and grabbed some money before running out the door to go to the general store. It was a balmy day which he welcomed gladly. The winter had been long and cold and he always loved when the season changed to spring...mostly just because the world was colorful once more instead of monotone white.
On his way, though, he saw a sign for a small farmer's market that was being held in the plaza. Figuring he might as well check it out, he changed course and went towards the southern side of the town.
Walking up the steps to the plaza he was greeted with the smell of fresh food and flowers, their bright colors greeting him warmly. The farmers who had come out to the market had their little stalls set up with their wares displayed for all to see and hopefully purchase. Starting to peruse the aisles, he picked out a few things before rounding the corner to a slight commotion. | [atrb=valign, top] tagged: aveline words: 316 notes: bloop this isn't the best starter BUT here ya go <3 made by habbue |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=valign,top]doctor, doctor tagged: callum! words: 710! notes: oops! | It was hard sometimes. Trying to just get a day off from work was a miracle in itself. Living in a town where you were the only doctor and people fainted regularly from overwork in the fields or getting small cuts or just. Anything like that. It was always up to her, the town doctor, to fix it. Needless to say, that left her with little to nothing remotely resemblant of a social life. After all, it wasn't as though she could leave her nurse alone to handle everything. What if something serious happened and they needed her? She couldn't very well be gallivanting willy nilly through the rolling wheat fields of the Sepalum Peninsula. That meant lives were endangered. And if that meant she had to sacrifice her own wants and desires? So be it.
But it was easier said than done. It was a nice dream to just get one day to herself. A nice hope. But things like getting to hang out with friends or, or just sleeping in... lord help her, she loved getting to sleep in... they didn't exist in her world. It was a tragedy really. But a tragedy that she would refuse to ignore for any longer! One day wouldn't hurt right? Just one day wouldn't hurt. And what were the chances someone was going to get struck by lightning or get fatally injured if it was just for one day, right? Right? Please say right. Someone please for the love of goddess say right.
Aveline had slipped out of the hospital for the morning, having had left a note on the table to prompt Kolora and any possible patients that would arrive before the nurse that the doctor would be out for just a few hours. Maybe a day was a little much. A few hours... a few hours wouldn't kill! So it was with that and a heavy heart that the doctor trudged out into the town. Part of her bent on enjoying her day. The other parts weighing her down with guilt. There wasn't much going on as it seemed, she thought. Mornings after all were left to housewives and ranchers to thrive. Afternoon was when the rest of the town would wake. But she couldn't wait around until then. She didn't have the time to wait around until then!
But it was then that she had eyed a sign that prompted the woman with a farmer's market. And the doctor supposed that it wouldn't hurt to buy a few flowers to brighten up the office and some fresh apples. If she got her hands on apples, she could bribe someone to get her pie. So, for the most part. That was where she had spent her morning. But one thing turned into the next and before she had known it, the doctor found herself arm wrestling person after person in the pursuit of free apples. Or free anything really. Girl got to eat, right? And slapping the word free in front of everything made it taste that much better.
A thin piece of wheat protruded from her pale pink lips, the woman having had rolled back the sleeves of her white button up to her elbows. Her eyes challenging the next contestant to try and bring on more. It was a surprisingly profitable attempt, she noted. Maybe she should have done this more often! Fresh fruit with every match. ... of course. With that said, she supposed she couldn't win them all. After another arm made contact with the hard wood, the woman looked up again as the crowd began to clear and reveal a particularly familiar looking innkeep.
"Hey you," She called, resting her elbows onto the makeshift table. The woman gestured for the redhead to come closer as an almost childish grin came to play on her lips. "How's about you c'mere and feed me?" Not even if she won or not. Callum could - no - would feed her. Right? Yeah, he would. Maybe. She hoped. "Can't leave a girl starvin', am I right?" A soft laugh escaped her lips, the woman leaning forward on the table again. "C'mere already before I start lookin' stupid!" Not that she was waiting for long. Or didn't already look stupid.

A bag of apples was sitting next to her chair on the ground and she kept adding to it as she beat people. Using arm wrestling as a barter for apples...interesting.
When he got closer it appeared that she was none other than the town's doctor, a woman that he knew well. Given their flirtatious attitudes, the two of them meshed well as friends. A smirk perked on his lips as he recognized that it was Aveline. Typical...the apples were probably for a pie, even though he didn't know that she could bake.
She apparently recognized him too as he got closer. When her most recent opponent left the table she looked up at him and acknowledged him with a typical Aveline grin on her face. He couldn't help but smile too. It was infectious.
"I don't really have anything to give you if you win," he said with a smirk, sitting in the chair across from her. "And that's a maaajorly big if," he added playfully.
He had known Aveline for a little while now. He had cut his hand at the inn once a while back and had to go to the hospital to get it patched up. Well, you can't really go to the hospital without meeting the doctor, and they hit it off in a weird sort of way. Callum flirted with nearly every girl he met (he THOUGHT he was a ladies man) and Aveline was one of the few who flirted right back. From then on a sort of friendship was formed between them.
Rolling up his sleeves as he set down his bags from his previous purchases, he leaned forward and took her hand in his, elbow resting against the table as he got into arm-wrestling position.
"So what do I get if — no, when I win?" he smirked, looking up at her with his burgundy brown eyes. | [atrb=valign, top] tagged: aveline words: 333 notes: wow this sucks in comparison made by habbue |

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,10,true][atrb=valign,top]doctor, doctor tagged: callum! words: 483! notes: oh bless shortness! | Hey. In her defense, fish gotta swim and girls gotta eat. Right? Besides. The less money she had to spend, the better it was on her. Not that she was broke or anything. Just. She didn't like using it and hey. She had to import her skin care supplies. Just wouldn't be right if she looked all old and stuff when she was clearly so youthful. Or. You know. At least she thought that she was. And thinking that you're young. That makes sure that you're young, right? Yeah, shut up.
She wasn't sure why or how she had become friends with the inn keeper by any means. Perhaps it was just a burst of boredom - which more or less explained any and all of her other friendships with anyone - or perhaps it was just because they got along well. Either way, she supposed it didn't matter. They were friends and that was that, wasn't it? "Nothin', huh?" She leaned back in her seat, lifting a hand to rub her cheek slightly. "Well I dunno then, Callum. You might not be worth my time." She lifted a hand, looking away from the other as she waved him off.
"Why don't you go back into the kitchen and make me a sandwich or something?" Just kidding. That sounded kind of mean after all. She turned to face him again, resting an arm across the table as her other propped her head up. She merely laughed, debating what exactly she should have gotten for him. And from him for that matter. Aveline tugged the strand of wheat from her parted lips, flicking it to the ground before her hands clapped together. "How about you bake me a pie and we'll call it even. Because we both know who's going to win here, am I right?" Maybe she was being a little too smug for her own good. Whatever. It wasn't like it was going to hurt anyone, right? Outside of his pride but whatever.
She watched as the other positioned himself, the woman merely grinning as she gripped his hand. "I'd say holding my hand is a good enough bonus, am I right? But uh. How about I'll let you get off the hook on paying for any meds for like. A month?" It didn't sound nearly as enticing as she thought it would. For the most part, it wasn't like Callum got sick or anything. So it was a little hard to avoid picking something that even remotely sounded enticing. Like really? Beat her and you get free medication? Lame. Seriously. Seriously. Lame.
"Actually. You come up with it, man. I don't have much to offer. Except for my body but that's a no no." She clicked her tongue, shaking her head in disapproval. She knew how these types of men were! Well. Not really but she did her research! "Naughty, naughty."

That was probably what all those apples were for. Callum supposed if HE didn't have to buy the ingredients, then baking the pie wouldn't be a huge deal. He wasn't a five-star chef by any means but he could hold his own in the kitchen. Otherwise his business would have flopped a long time ago, given that his cook liked to be late or just not show up some days. Damn, he really had to start being more strict with that.
Shaking off his wandering thoughts he looked up at her across the table as she offered free medicine for a month. "Free medicine for a month?" he simply repeated, a tinge of incredulity in his voice. "You realize I'm only twenty-six and not some eighty-year-old diabetes riddled patient of yours, right?" The only medicine he took on a regular basis was migraine medication. He sure got a lot of migraines.
She suggested that he pick his own prize and the smirk on his face widened, until she put her body off limits. Just laughing, he shook his head, wringing his hands a bit and preparing for the arm wrestling battle that was suddenly thrust upon him.
This definitely wasn't how Callum was planning to spend his morning, but it was turning out to be pretty entertaining. Things like this didn't happen very often so he was having fun, at least - the wide grin on his face exhibited that.
"Trust me, I wouldn't touch you with a fifty-foot long pole, Dr. Belanger," he snickered, turning himself a bit to get into position, his elbow resting on the table as his hand was outstretched, waiting for her. "Or would I?" he added, contradicting himself (on purpose, of course).
"Well, it doesn't matter, because you're totally gonna lose," he said, leaning forward and grabbing her hand to speed things up. "Ready to be dominated?" | [atrb=valign, top] tagged: aveline words: 319 notes: unu sorry this is poopy made by habbue |

Like honestly. Apple pie was basically her lover. Like she'd marry pie and ice cream if she could have her way all the time, she thought. Callum was way much better than she ever was in the kitchen. After all, who would trust her with an oven. She'd end up setting the whole building on fire. And hey. She was a doctor. Not a firefighter okay. And as far as she knew, ain't no firefighters in town either. And she has no intentions of dying so.
She rolled her eyes, laughing quietly at his reply. "Exactly. So you can see how this works out for me?" Aveline replied, shifting back and forth in her seat. If she was gonna bet something, she was gonna bet something that wouldn't cause her any arm. Well whatever. He could pick what he wanted out of her. If it was food from her behalf, it'd just be more of a punishment for him than anything else. Either way, it worked out for her. She still technically won here!
She puffed out her cheeks in frustration at his reply. How rude. Just because she said no and he's all bent out of shape. It was because she was hot. He was just mad that they were practically the same age and she was still working it. Call it a gift but she aged damn gracefully. ... alright. That was probably a little much, she thought. But still! Dr. Belanger certainly could have held her own against her silly friend. "Well aren't we feeling sassy today?" Aveline teased, positioning herself after rolling the sleeves of her shirt back. Definitely.
She was pretty strong herself, she thought. Aveline had to look after herself after all. It'd be kind of embarrassing if the doctor herself was unhealthy after all. Her hand was grabbed by the other, the doctor tightened her grip before leaning forward to make closer eye contact with him. "Bring it on, Cal." She tightened her grasp, making sure her hand wouldn't slip before starting to push the other's arm down to the makeshift table. "I'm not as weak as I look!"

She really was strong. He hadn't been paying attention when she started to push against his grip, his arm dipping dangerously low to the table before his mind caught up with what was happening around him. Reacting, he pushed back, gritting his teeth as he tried to get the best of her, which was proving to be surprisingly difficult.
"Well, you definitely weren't lying," he said, a bit of a grunt behind his voice. Callum hadn't expected having to put out this much effort and his pride was a bit shocked but yet he was excited for the challenge. When he really thought about it he hadn't had a good old arm wrestle in a long time, not since he was a kid, at least.
After struggling a bit to take the lead, he managed to push her back almost to their starting position, trying not to waste too much of his energy so he could win at the end when she was tired out. Not paying attention at the beginning really put him at a disadvantage...damn, she was sneaky.
"I wasn't expecting this," he smirked. "Do you have a weight set hidden in the depths of your office or something? You can't honestly get this strong from taking temperatures and doling out cold compresses all day." He was joking obviously, but damn...where was this coming from?
It wasn't even that he really wanted the prize, but that he didn't want to be bested by Aveline. They were friends, of course, but Callum had an ego, to an extent, and he didn't like getting it bruised. Not that it really mattered; he had known Ave long enough to know that even if he won, she'd get him to make her an apple pie anyways. | [atrb=valign, top] tagged: aveline words: 305 notes: deeerp sorry this took so long i didnt see it D: made by habbue |

Or at least in this instance, it was all fun and games up until she got serious. Heh. Was he surprised? She considered herself pretty strong for a woman of her stature. It was both a gift and a curse. On one hand, she could arm wrestle for a pie and lift up heavy things all on her own without the assistance of other people (after all, she was a strong and independent woman). On the other hand, she came off as rather intimidating. Something about her heavy lifting just didn't come off the right way when it came right down to it. A slight grin played on her lips as she watched the other finally come to his senses, pushing back against her. Returning them both to the same position that they had started in. Now this, this was fun! At least she got a good ol' fight from it. She hated it when people doubted her ability after all. Being a lady didn't mean she was a weakling!
But then again. There was also the fact that she was a doctor and did absolutely nothing but checking temperatures and administering medicine. But hey. She had never liked those doctors that always told her that she was unhealthy but they didn't look like they could run a mile even if they tried! As a result, she ended up just striving to look and do her best. And apparently, it seemed to pay off. She pushed back, trying hard to get the redhead's arm to drop back down to the table again. Pie, pie, pie, pie, pie. "You shouldn't underestimate how much I need food." She replied, grinning slightly. It was only because she hadn't the faintest notion of how to work a stove. You only burned water once. After that. Even making the attempt of trying to cook was just too embarrassing to attempt again.
"Actually, I do have one in my room." She replied, pushing harder and harder. Why? Was it weird that she did? Can't help it if she pumped the iron every so often, she thought. Either way though, she'd get her pie. She'd just sweet talk him into giving her what she wanted. She didn't want to brag about it, but hey. Aveline laughed a little, resting one of her hands on her hips as she continued to struggle against the other's grip. "It's been showing results, right? Well. I guess you can tell, huh?" She could be a little of a smug jackass too sometimes, she thought. Oh well. Nothing that could really be helped even if she wanted to. Extra emphasis on the 'if she wanted to'.

Despite trying his hardest to push back, Aveline was slowly gaining an advantage. It wasn't fair that she had all her free time to work out! Or something like that. He was just complaining because he didn't want to lose, because the doctor would definitely rub it in his face forever.
Even though he put up a valiant effort, soon Callum's hand was pushed back against the table. The redhead tried his best to keep her at bay but his arm gave out, strained from the effort (at his young age of twenty-six he was already an old man). Too much heavy work had strained his muscles over the years and his endurance wasn't like it used to be.
"Dammit," he grumbled, pulling his arm away as he rubbed his hand a bit. It's not like he was upset that he'd have to make Aveline a pie, but he didn't want to lose. Losing was never fun and he could already feel a bruise blooming on his ego, whatever there was of it.
"I'd say best two out of three, but some people have to go back to work today," he sighed. All he could think about was the heavy lifting he would have to do when he got back to the inn. There was always something, after all. Speaking of which, he should probably get back...people were probably starting to wake up and he had to make sure breakfast was being made.
Standing up he stretched his arm and looked down at the black haired woman, shaking his head a bit with a little bit of a smirk. "Well, I'm surprised, but I guess you earned that damned pie. When do you want it?" he asked, hoping that the apples she had won previously would be donated for his pie-making efforts.

Maybe she needed to give him a little leeway for him, she thought. She wouldn't really want to hurt his pride or something. She didn't want him to end up crying or something. It wasn't even like she worked out. Alright, maybe a little bit. She didn't want to be one of those doctors that yelled at people for not being in tip top health when they themselves weren't anything close to a picture of health. But it wasn't long that she had been pushing the other's arm before it had finally collided with the makeshift table. Oops. Too late to think about giving him a little room to win, wasn't it? The edges of her lips curved upward into a slight smile before she dropped his hand from her own and Aveline jumped up onto her feet and started moving her hips to try and show off.
The doctor couldn't help but show off a little. I mean, come on. She did win. There was nothing wrong with getting a little excited over that right? Besides that fact. They were the same age too. Which basically made it even better that she could take him down. She glanced over at the other, stopping mid victory dance to address the loser. "Some people." She replied, half laughing as she rested her hands on her hips then. "So you mean just you?" Just kidding, she had to go back to the office sooner or later or someone really would have her head. And she definitely did not want to get her head chewed off for not you know. Actually doing her job. It wasn't like anyone ever really got hurt in town anyways though, she thought. So it wouldn't really matter if she stayed outside just a little bit longer, right?
She moved, picking up the big sack of apples. A delighted smile crossing her lips as she looked at the other. "Now, preferably! I can wait until after you finish all your little chores." She chirped, hugging the bag close to her chest as she moved to pick up her other things as well. "Or you can just make it when you have free time and bring it to the clinic for me?" Imagine. Having Callum have to deliver her pie to her all the way from the inn. She kind of wanted to tease him but she supposed that would have been cruel. But then again- no. No, she wouldn't make fun of him today. She probably already sucker punched his pride with her super strength and whatever.
'Cause she was buff. And ... and stuff.
