NPC RACES
Townspeople
Townspeople are those who would rather dwell in the Primula City Center instead of out in the expansive ranching district. They can hold any job they please from barkeeper to store owner to school teacher to bum. Most townspeople are humans, though there are some magical beings in their midst.
Ranchers
The other humans that make up the population on Sepalum Peninsula, ranchers are very important. Without them, there would be no food on the island (unless everyone ate a strict diet of fish). Ranchers raise a variety of fruits, vegetables and livestock, which they then sell to shops and businesses in the town; some of their produce even gets exported to other countries.
Magical Beings
Some people have been blessed with magical abilities, and the people of the peninsula simply refer to them as magical beings, though they are generally accepted into the community. Magical beings are really just witches or wizards, depending on their gender. They look just like humans, and can hold the same jobs as humans though some prefer to live solitary lives. Magical beings are nearly immortal and can live for very long periods of time, though they can have children.
Merpeople
There are people who live and thrive in the water. They are most commonly referred to as merpeople by the villagers on the peninsula. Merpeople are really just people who are half human and half fish. They live primarily in rivers, the ocean, or lakes, and usually live in groups as they are sociable creatures. Merpeople also have the same jobs as humans, however; most stick to jobs that are spent mostly around water, or don't have jobs at all, because of their restricted time on their feet. They can also have children.
Merpeople have a specific ability that allows for them to transform their tails to legs for a limited amount of time depending on the skill level of their magic. Level one allows for them to stay on land for ten minutes. Level two, half an hour. Level three, an hour. And so on. The transformation can be done several times a day, but only for the extended period at a time. Merpeople live to be about two hundred or so years of age, unless directly related to Poseidon himself.
There are several hundred merpeople communities around the world, but there is only one 'great king', Poseidon, who rules over everything and everyone. No one can quite explain where in the sea he lives, but he has the largest community around him. While you can't make a direct relative to Poseidon such as his children, distant relatives are certainly possible. Read here for more.
For all of your merpeople questions, please refer to here.
**Humans, magical beings and merpeople can definitely get married and have children. Magical beings aren't discriminated against at all and are viewed the same as humans. The child of a human and a magical being may be either a human or a magical being; it has the same 50/50 chance as gender. The child of a magical being and human ages more quickly than a child of two magical beings! **
NPC RACES
Harvest Goddess
The harvest goddess, Ceres, is arguably the most important deity to the rural people of the peninsula. Farming and harvests are important to their ecology and without the goddess, things quickly go bad. The peninsula is experiencing this right now, with the harvest god being poisoned. The worst part is that none of the people of the peninsula even know.
Destruction God
No one knows where he came from...all they know is that he is the most evil creature in the universe. The destruction god, Excisio, thrives off of chaos and despair and is trying to turn the Sepalum Peninsula into a place of discord. If he can do that, he can successfully take control of the land and become the reigning deity over the Harvest Goddess.
Sprites
The sprites are the followers of the harvest goddess. They are small and helpful creatures that enjoy visiting the people of the peninsula. Lately, however, they have been hiding in their secret hollow, tending to the goddess's poisoning. A few brave sprites have ventured out, trying to get people to help them win the battle over the destruction god.
Imps
Imps are the minons of the destruction god. They're little just like sprites, but full of evil. They're shrouded in black and have spindly, twisted bodies that look like something out of a nightmare. They have become sort of an urban legend in the disbelieving Sepalum Peninsula society. If you are visited by one, they say you'll have bad luck for ten years.
