She hated slow days. It was always ridiculously boring. And it wasn't like she could leave even if she wanted to leave. For all she knew, people could come bursting in with some busted knee. Or to give her a heart attack. Whatever ended up happening, she supposed. Kids made a bad habit of barging into her clinic and waking her up. Er. ... getting her on duty when they'd fall out of a tree or something. Or to get free toys and sweets. Something like that, she thought. She didn't exactly mind it either. Any company would have been enjoyed by this point.
She sighed, leaning back in her chair as her mouse scrolled over the computer screen. "Ugh..." She groaned, stretching her arms across her desk. Good lord. She was playing solitaire. The card game of lonely people. She spun in her chair, the heels of her shoes dragging against the tiled floor. Kolora wasn't even in the office. At least then she could have harassed her cute nurse. She was almost depressed now. Aveline whined, pausing slightly before hearing the sound of the door. The doctor jumped to her feet, stumbling out of her office. Nearly tripping over her feet, she swung out the door quickly and her hand tightened on the door frame to keep from falling.
"Hello!" She said suddenly, a small smile spreading across her lips. How exciting. It was someone! Anyone! "Do you need anything?" She straightened up, brushing her fingers through her long black hair before letting go of the door frame. She adjusted her green turtleneck before lacing her fingers behind of her. "Are you sick?" Was it a bad thing to want someone to be sick? Hell if she cared. She just needed to do something before she got real nutty. Not that she was nutty before. Doctors couldn't be nutty, right? Eh. Whatever.

"I...um..." Mako gave the doctor a blank expression. Her eagerness and devotion to curing the sick was admirable, but fortunately, Mako was feeling quite healthy today. He wasn't expecting the doctor to greet him at the door however, so he wasn't sure how to react. In fact, he was expecting Kolora to be here in the front, but for the doctor herself to see him first, might have indicated that Kolora wasn't here today. A sadness swept him, but he hadn't spoken to the doctor in awhile so perhaps this was a good chance to do just that.
"Hello Doctor Aveline!" he greeted with a warm smile, laughing "I'm fine, thanks! I don't think I've been sick for awhile now. Maybe it's because you've been doing such a great job taking care of people."
Before, he was holding a small plastic box that contained a meal for Kolora. As he spoke to the doctor, he tucked the container behind him, hoping he would find the nurse later.

She already felt like crying. He was alright? Couldn't he had like stubbed a toe or something? She could have helped! She could have done anything! He couldn't possibly be completely healthy. He had to be sick or something or ... or ... or you know? Cut something? Even if it was a small injury, it was up to her to fix it right? Like why else would people come to the office, right? Only because they were injured.
No, no... he couldn't give her that excuse! Probably just trying to weasel his way out of the clinic now that her desperation had become obvious. Lame. Couldn't he be honorable or something and just take one for the town? Before she snapped and tried ... checking plants or something? Or spiriting away kids or whatever? Hell if she knew anymore... she merely sighed, dropping his shoulders quietly before she relaxed her body again to greet the other. Even if he wasn't sick, company was company right?
"Were you looking for someone?" She chirped, a slight smile curving on her lips. "You looked a little disappointed there buddy." Aveline teased. Was he looking for her cutie nurse Kolora? Ooh! She wasn't just a doctor! Totally had a PHD in love, okay? She watched her soaps and romantic comedies. Totally did her research. Of course she could have been totally wrong too. That would have been embarrassing.

"Well," Mako laughed nervously, his face turning slightly red, "I was...looking for Kolora. I thought she would be here today but I guess not. Heh, I cooked her lunch, see?"
He brought the container forward for Aveline to see. It was shaped like a fish with the top being a bright red. Inside contained steamed sticky rice topped with salt and pepper fried fish. It was a rather simple dish, but was one of Mako's specialty.
"Are you hungry, doctor? It's about lunch time, isn't it?" he beamed, presented the dish to her instead, and then joked, "I assure you, you won't get food poisoned or anything! That would be pretty evil of me, wouldn't it? Food poisoning the only doctor in town..."
Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned that last part. He knew the doctor, but forgot whether or not he was on friendly terms with her to be joking like that. She was a little older than him as well. More mature, to be sure, so she might not have taken it too well. At least he offered her something nice, right?

Did she call it or did she call it?
She totally knew he had a thing for Kolora. He totally had a thing for her. She wasn't stupid after all. She had to make sure that he had good intentions for her cute little nurse. She didn't want him to get all handsy because Kolora had a job to do. She needed to do work when Aveline wanted to sle- uh. Take breaks. Not sleeping. What? Yeah, no way. Of course! She was the ... uh. Yeah. She lifted a hand, turning her face away to wipe away a false tear. "I see. My well being isn't nearly as important." Just kidding. For the most part.
She lived right upstairs anyways. It wasn't like it was hard to go and make herself food. But she wasn't exactly good at cooking. Or boiling water. She didn't think it was possible but she burned water once. The doctor looked down, examining the dish. Ooh. It looked good! Definitely healthy too. She supposed she could let him go ahead and go do this. You know. If Kolora was actually even there.
She raised an eyebrow in reply, her eyes focused on the food more than anything else. "You sure?" She asked, slipping her hands into the pocket of her doctor's coat. "She might come in later. I don't know if she will either though." She shrugged, scratching at her cheek slightly. She probably wouldn't show up. Aveline couldn't remember if she gave her a day off. She snorted, laughing at the mention of food poisoning. "Right?" She smiled, resting her hands on her hips. "I don't even know what I'd do!"

"Hmm, well if she isn't coming back, I would hate to let this go to waste, so yes! I am sure!" Mako smiled, somewhat glad to know that the doctor was opened to his odd sense of humor after all.
"Please, enjoy it!" he said, presenting to her the small box and lowering his head in a slight bow, "it's a show of thanks for all of your...hard work!"
He felt that it was good to show some appreciation to someone who worked with so much enthusiasm to help people in need. Even if it wasn't much, a little gift can often brighten someone's day.
"Oh! And I'm still kind of new to the town. you see...so I don't know if a lot of people know about my seaside shack. So maybe if you like it, you could let some of your patients know about it too," Mako included shamelessly.
