HISTORY Rodney was born wide-eyed and earnest, making him restless when he became trapped in the immensely structured school system. While curious, he expressed his thirst for knowledge through silly questions and demanded physical learning. Early on, he found that the educational system was much too dull for his taste, leaving him to become one mess of a goof-off through middle and high school. The boy chose to invest his time in socializing and developing deep friendships; those were much more meaningful to him than pre-calculus would ever be. Relationships were, and are, the most vital parts of Rodney's life. With little interest in romance, he surrounded himself with friendship, pouring every ounce of his faith and trust into his companions. In his younger years, he befriended older children, who embraced his naivety and sheltered him from the world's problems. This relationship was mirrored by his parents; as an only child, Rodney was the center of attention and his every move was monitored. These bonds did, however, allow the boy to take in friends that were younger than him, developing his status as a "big brother" figure. But, having a large circle of friends meant he attended every party thrown, leading to less and less of his schoolwork getting done. Due to his distraction, Rodney's grades suffered. While he managed to hold a part-time job as a landscaper, a social life, and a powerful relationship with his parents, he could not scrape up a C average. He graduated failing two of his classes, and for the first time, the support from his mother and father wavered. Although he had no siblings to demand another college fund, his lack of scholarships left his lower-middle-class family in a bind. Feeling somewhat betrayed, but understanding why he was unable to attend college, Rodney left home to find work. A job was not as easy to find as he hoped, but the young man was determined. He spent most of his days hitchhiking or making a few bucks as a ranch hand. The life was peaceful for him, and he stayed on the road for several years. He could meet a variety of people, share life stories, and gain experience in farming. Eventually, he made his way to Sepalum with the help of a stray dog. She peaked his interest the second he saw her wandering in the road, and he followed her everywhere, eager for a friend. His arrival on the peninsula was serendipitous, but the experience he gained throughout his young life meant that he could thrive in a farming town.
