a rising threat Those stupid pirates! Why couldn't they just leave her alone? What had she done to deserve this chase? Although she knew what the pirate captain was after, she didn't like how she was being treated for it. Why couldn't he have just asked nicely? A smile formed on her lips, but it quickly disappeared as the pirate captain snapped at her. "I'm not your friend, Njord!" It sent shivers down her spine. Why would she be friends with someone like him? Never. She looked to the townspeople again. "P-please don't be fooled by him, he's not a g-good pirate." If she had had even a tiny bit of cruel in her, she probably would've begged them to kill him, but she wasn't that kind of person. No, Njord could survive as much as he liked, as long as he went back to where he came from. "But I don't want to have a chat with you-- we already talked before and you attacked me!" she hissed, squinting her eyes at the rough pirate just meters away from her. What if he managed to defeat all these nice people -- which was bad enough of her to drag into this -- and drag her away? She realised then that what she needed to do, was start swimming again. She couldn't let these people die for her sake. And she couldn't let them kill Njord for her sake either. So she pushed herself up and rolled down into the water again. However, just the roll had made her tired. She was already fatigued from before, but she had absolutely no strength left in her now. Her arms buckled and she fell heavily into the water. Being a mermaid she usually would've thrived and used the water to her advantage, but her fatigue rushed over her and made her vision blurred. Her eyes closed, and soon enough she was floating motionless in the water. (Dione is unconscious.)

[atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] | | | so many different faces | [atrb=vAlign, top] | [atrb=vAlign, top] | | [atrb=vAlign, top] Today started out weirdly. Damian almost always never gets weird, tingly feelings unless something big was going to happen. And he woke up with a jolt from it. Not a good sign. So, he brought along his black wakizashi for good measure, and loaded up his cylinder pockets with six pre-made ice needles each, totaling 36, before heading out. Usually he loads half as much for the cooling effect his jacket gives, but a little extra wouldn't hurt.
He ignored the strange looks he were getting from some of the others were giving him as he went along on his day. Everything went fine, until the early afternoon. Just as he was about to get some lunch, there were some gossipers that passed by. Usually he'd ignore such things, but given his bad omen of the day, he decided to strain his ears and listen in. "Hey, have you heard? A pirate ship showed up near the beach."
"You're kidding, right? There's no way."
Damian quirked his visible eyebrow and looked towards the beach. It happened to be in the way he was going towards. "Alright... Rumor first, food later." He picked up his casual pace into a decent jog and managed to get there in around five minutes. But he sure as hell wasn't expecting what he was going to see.
Lo and behold, there was a jolly roger; a huge one at that. What seemed like the captain was near it, with a couple other people in front of him. He didn't recognize anyone in the crowd, sans Cecilia, but they all looked pissed and/or wary. Then, his eyes landed upon something... Odd. His eyes widened a little as he muttered to himself. "Dang. I lost that bet. At least he isn't here to rub it in my face."
He walked towards the group, only to be met with the pirate spewing utter nonsense. Damian can hear the underlying cruelty and slight anger in the pirate's tone, so he spoke as he stuck a pinky in his ear. "Ahhh... Normally, I'm not one to say stuff like this, but... You, sir, are spewing some terrible bullshit out of your mouth. I can smell it from all the way back there."
Then, some of his men were pulling ashore. He glared a little and exuded some magic unconsciously, lowering the temperature around him by a few degrees. "Say, Mr. Pirate man, I suggest you call off your men. If not, then I'm sure the sharks would enjoy a feast or two." His voice still had that laziness in it, but it was definitely a whole lot colder and sharper.
His hand hovered over the hilt of his sword as he instructed the group quietly enough for the pirates to not hear him. "A few of you ought to get that mermaid to safety. The rest will stay here and fend off the pirates. And before any of you say anything, I'm experienced in fighting against large numbers. Now go." He said this just as Dione rushed into the water, before losing consciousness from over-exhaustion.

He called her her friend, a title which the girl violently protested. Cecilia's eyes narrowed and her grip tightened on the sword. For some reason it was doubtful whatever feeling the pirate had for the girl was mutual. He continued to speak, his eyes pointed quite intently towards the girl's direction. Almost enough to make Cecilia wish to turn around and follow the gaze. She knew better, however, in moments like these even a blink could be fatal.
The girl, mermaid, protested once again to this and Cecilia's eyes narrowed further. "I see no reason why we should trust you over him." If mermaids were possible so were shapeshifts, for all she knew the thing could be a monster. No, Cecilia far from trusted the mermaid. In fact, a shiver ran up her spine, even having her back towards the thing was a risk. Hopefully her...companions would have the skills to block any nasty surprises should such suspicions ring true. She then turned to the pirate whom stated his request.
"Well by no means should you let us stop your little chat."
"Ahhh... Normally, I'm not one to say stuff like this, but... You, sir, are spewing some terrible bullshit out of your mouth. I can smell it from all the way back there." Damn the sand, hiding his footsteps like that. Cecelia let out a little huff as she registered the voice, classifying it to be Damian's. Well at least he could fight. "Say, Mr. Pirate man, I suggest you call off your men. If not, then I'm sure the sharks would enjoy a feast or two."
"That would be a wise decision." Cecelia chimed in, bluffing was dangerous territory, especially when the blufee knew more than you did on the subject, but it was more effective when it was followed by confirmation. "The fisherman just finished cleaning," a truth, "I'd be surprised if they weren't here by now." A bluff, well more like an unknown, living in a landlocked town, Cecilia was far from versed in marine biology. At least she read a few things on the subject.
Much quieter, Damian then began to speak once again. Cecilia, being in front between the group and the pirate could barely hear herself, only catching a few glimmers of words. She got the gist of it though, and it took every instinct not to protest. 'safety' would probably mean town and even if the girl was harmless, seeing that the pirates' motive was the mermaid it was undoubted that they'd follow. Such a scenario would more than likely be game over.
Not that the woman could say much for the matter, her lips but twitched as she glared the pirate down, listening.

"You wound me, Dione. I thought we were all friends here." The pirate said in response to the mermaid's words towards him.
"I'm not your friend, Njord!" The mermaid retorted.
"Perhaps I'm a good pirate. Though, I suppose you've never heard of those."
"P-please don't be fooled by him, he's not a g-good pirate." Oh boy...they were not making this easy....though at the moment Ringo is more tilting to the mermaid's side of the argument at the moment.
"I see no reason why we should trust you over him." The lady with the blade was being the harsh one. Ringo wanted to disagree but he can't exactly muster up a justification for the mermaid.
"I just want to have a little chat with her. That's all. Cross my heart and hope to die."
"Well by no means should you let us stop your little chat."
"But I don't want to have a chat with you-- we already talked before and you attacked me!" The girl glared at the pirate. Ringo looked at the people around him in concern and wondered what these people would think. As Ringo pondered though, he felt the temperature lower. His eyes shot toward a source of magical energy.
"Ahhh... Normally, I'm not one to say stuff like this, but... You, sir, are spewing some terrible bullshit out of your mouth. I can smell it from all the way back there." A man of silverish hair walked up to them. "Say, Mr. Pirate man, I suggest you call off your men. If not, then I'm sure the sharks would enjoy a feast or two." Ringo's brain had to pause. Wait they're sharks here?
"That would be a wise decision." The lady said. "The fisherman just finished cleaning, I'd be surprised if they weren't here by now." Before Ringo could ask any questions, his eyes widened to see the mermaid pushing herself up and going into the ocean. He began to observe her movements slowing down...up until she stopped, unconscious Ringo hopefully assumed.
"A few of you ought to get that mermaid to safety. The rest will stay here and fend off the pirates. And before any of you say anything, I'm experienced in fighting against large numbers. Now go." Ringo looked at the silver haired man and nodded as he started to swim over to the mermaid.

He startles, slightly, at the sound of another voice, indicating that yet another townsperson has approached the scene to investigate the ruckus. He also takes it upon himself to tell everyone what to do -- as if the woman hadn't been demanding enough. Negotiation has never really been Ross' forte, but he certainly doesn't see anything getting done, aside from the potential fight looming over their heads.
"It's time to take care of this," Ross finally barks, glancing around the ground and picking up a long stick as a makeshift weapon. He advances on the pirates, good eye gleaming with a challenge. "It's not just the mermaid -- we have to protect the town," he says, taking a hard swing at Njord in the hopes he can get at least something done, whether it be actually harming him or at least getting the others up for a battle.

[atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true][atrb=style,padding: 10px; border-radius: 0px;] It would have appeared he wasn't the only bystander wary of the situation at hand. Ezekiel only offered a shrug in response to his red-headed partner, silently agreeing with his harsh words. His fellow blacksmith raised her sword between the two groups, eliciting a rather mock explanation from the pirate captain; one that he wasn't quite compelled to believe. The man remained static and firm where he stood, listening to the exchanges of words with intent, eyes trained on the marauding leader. Dione's desperate cries - not to mention her fainting spell - provided him with enough sense of mind to carry more weight on her side of the story than the pirate's.
Another civilian with a sword appeared, just as stealthily and quick as his fellow blacksmith had been, and Ezekiel almost scoffed at the man's own share of demands. His partner's attack ignited something within him, and though he was not armed, he too darted at one of the flanking pirates, throwing a punch as soon as he cleared the distance.

a rising threat Don't be fooled by him, she said. Really, she was the one fooling all of them. If they really knew, if they really knew. He didn't doubt for a moment that they would have hesitated in trying to capture her instead of trying to withhold him and his crew. If you could even call it that. There were only the three of them against this bunch. And to make matters worse, another one of them had arrived on the scene. Pleasant, wasn't he?
He wasn't pleased at all with his attitude. Who was he to say what he said? Fend off the pirates? Sure, there was three of them but was he really so secure in that? Or should Njord have been the one that was afraid? "So distrusting, the whole lot of you." He feigned innocence, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword. Eyes trained on the newly arrived man, hesitating. "I'll call them off. For now." He waved them off once more, his men growing irritated with their captain's fickleness. One glanced at the now unconscious mermaid, moving towards her. He'd have to keep the others at bay while his captain - no doubt - would start the battle. One of the men waded through the water, the other on standby with the pirate.
"It's time to take care of this." His lips twisted up into a smirk, shifting his attention towards the two redheads. So they intended on starting the fun then, huh? Njord watched them break, one picking up a piece of driftwood and running straight for him. He didn't flinch, dodging swiftly before he took out his sword and pointed the blade at the other. "Now, now. Don't you think it's unfair to fight a man without warning him first?" He clicked his tongue. "Honestly, and you call me the bad one." His other shipmate narrowly dodged the fist thrown at him, the pirate seething now that an attack had been made on his captain. He moved, throwing a punch back at the redhead.
And so, the fight had begun.
[Ross and Zeke rolled a no-attack, as well as one of the pirates. All attacks (including the NPCs) whether they are successful or not will be generated which makes this all completely random. Please remember to keep your posts short and concise so the event can continue faster. Thank you!]

"It's time to take care of this,"
"What?" Cecelia's eyes widened as the ex-soldier whipped around her, grabbing a branch to fling at the pirate
"It's not just the mermaid -- we have to protect the town," No! Starting a fight, especially against an enemy this big and especially when you weren't included in the motive was the worst thing to do!
Ezekiel charged after one of the gaining pirates as the captain dodged the driftwood and in the waters, one of the civilians, as well as a pirate was chasing after the fainted mermaid. Cecilia scoffed, maybe the thing was just a harmless little thing after all.
Either way, there was no way she could break the tension at this point, not with all these loose ends flying about and of course, the red-head had gotten a sword at his throat, judging by the captains dodge there was no way she could sneak a strike on him in time. Unless...she glanced back at Damian, he could probably throw something fast enough to at least distract the captain, maybe even wound him. She nodded a bit towards him, trying to communicate the vague plan.
If he would throw, she would charge, aiming an uppercut at where-ever she could strike.

Damian just looked at the situation at hand and resisted the urge to face palm. Un. Believable. In hindsight, he should've expected at least someone from this ragtag group to be the berserker-type. He's going to have a word with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb once the mermaid was secured.
Already, he saw a pirate advancing towards her. Clicking his tongue, Damian walked over to Cecilia and muttered something. "I'm going for the mermaid. Cover me, Cecilia." And with that, he dashed towards the mermaid and pirate approaching her. He unsheathed his blade and popped open a cylinder pocket, taking out three needles. As he rushed, the threw two of them at the same time, waited a bit, then threw the other one at the pirate approaching the mermaid.
He could only hope the needles hit a pressure point since his aim was iffy with his non-dominant hand. Pirate or not, he wouldn't want to turn the man into a bloody pulp. He's had enough of that back "home."

Of course as Ringo swam, he wasn't going to go uninterrupted. He looked over to notice the other pirates going for her. Ringo starting to wish he prepared some ritual magic that would be great for this situation but how would he expect a pirate attack? Ringo tried to be prepared but he can't exactly see the future.
Ringo noticed silver haired man throwing needles at the pirates heading toward the mermaid. This should give Ringo enough time to swim over. Right now, Ringo's only ability is to reinforce his body. Even if the pirates manage to avoid the needles, should they try to hurt him, it would only create scratches at best. However, Ringo is going to assume that they wouldn't want to damage the mermaid. Ringo swam over and began to reach out in an attempt to hold her hand and hopefully swim her to safer waters.

[atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true][atrb=style,padding: 10px; border-radius: 0px;] In the brief moment where Ezekiel's fist sailed through the air towards his target, he thought the hit might have landed. But with fury and adrenaline flowing through his system, probably from such an open attack on his captain, the ship-mate shyly dodged the blow, eliciting a light huff and a frown from the attacking blacksmith.
The pirate retaliated in an instant, returning his own fist in Ezekiel's direction. The red-head's green eyes glinted. He took a half-step backwards, leaning away in a successful dodge. A rush of air escaped his lungs. He followed up the movement with another attempt at a punch, this time with the opposite arm. Then he prepared his other fist, aiming for a jab to the pirate's stomach, regardless of the success or failure of his first strike.

a rising threat It was always a bad idea to go ahead and start a fight with someone you didn't know that well, he thought. Not that this seemed to stop the villagers of this god forsaken town. Peace, apparently, didn't seem like it was very much of an option at this point. Ah, well he had tried. He could blame poor, pathetic Dione in the end. He watched the silver haired man sail past him and head in the direction of the pirate heading towards the mermaid, needles darting through the air.
The pirate groaned, nearly stumbling over into the water when the sharp objects had lodged themselves in his skin. One in his neck, one in his shoulder, one in his wrist. None of them particularly dangerous spots but definitely enough to slow him down. He turned, glaring at Damian. "A fight y' lookin' for, eh? I'd be 'appy t' give ye' one."
He cracked his fingers, yanking out the needles before he turned to fling them at the child drawing nearer to the mermaid. "Y' should mind yer' own business, 'idgit." The pirate dashed forward, heading in the direction of Damian. Drawing his sword as well. "Come on then, mate. Let's see what y' got." A grin was plastered across his sea weathered face, the pirate waiting for him to make a move. Keeping an eye on the woman that he apparently called Cecilia.
Meanwhile, Njord's other shipmate was handling the redhead. Or at least one of them anyways. His punch had just narrowly missed, a hiss of annoyance escaping him before he was quickly delivered two blows. He stumbled back, falling to the ground when the wind was knocked clear out of him. "This ... this ain't your fight, lad." He grinned, moving to sweep his leg out in a feeble attempt to try and knock the blacksmith down.
[The pirate rolled a no-attack.]

[atrb=valign,top][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true][atrb=style,padding: 10px; border-radius: 0px;] The adrenaline was surging through his system now. It numbed his senses to the dull pain in his left hand after his first hit connected, and heightened his response times like nothing he'd ever experienced. His second hit was successful, too, which he attributed to quick thinking, good timing, and luck. Ezekiel smirked ever so slightly as his opponent stumbled backwards and toppled to the ground, the air purged from his legs.
The pirate's smug expression made him frown, though, and he stepped to the right, circling slowly around the pirate and watching the rest of the party out of his peripheral vision. When the scoundrel swung his leg at him, Ezekiel was prepared, and swiftly side-stepped the attack. Not once did his jade eyes leave the body of his attacker, and he stopped his movements to remain a safe distance away, settling on a single response to the pirate's attempts at verbal distraction.
"Get up."

At first Ringo thought he was going to be able to grab the mermaid and swim away. However, these pirates do not intend to make anything easy. After the silver haired man managed to throw some needles at the pirate heading toward Ringo and the mermaid, they managed to hit, however the pirate was able to yank them out...and decided on a new target.
"Y' should mind yer' own business, 'idgit." Ringo didn't care though. He continued to swim as the seals on his arm began to glow. His body is reinforced to be about as tough as a rock he'd imagine. The needles were barely felt as Ringo reached over and attempted to grab the mermaid. He had to swim away from the ship, the pirates, and all around, the chaos.
