a rising threat
"Capt'n, she escaped!" What? Njord turned almost immediately away from the woman, clicking his tongue as the mermaid had disappeared beneath the rolling waves of the ocean. The stupid man that had tried to pursue her having had already risen back to the surface. He knew he shouldn't have bothered with these twits. They distracted him from the chase and now he had to go and find her again. He shoved the woman back, sliding his sword back and rushing towards the rowboat. His men scurried back as well to the rowboat.
The pirate held his arm out for the imp to slide off of his shoulder and land onto the ground. "Go on, lad! Go and remove these annoyances for disruptin' m' chase." He snapped. The imp scurried off, swaying from side to side quietly before he reached the middle of the beach. Far enough away from the ocean to not destroy the ship. A ghoulish laugh escaped it, the imp pinching its nose as a soft ticking noise could be heard. It grew. And grew. And grew. The little creature looking more like a ball than anything else at the moment before bang! The creature exploded, throwing sand all about and leaving the surface of the beach where it stood bare of everything.
But the creature was no longer there, but rather holding onto the ropes that held the sails shut. It laughed again, the pirate captain removing his hat and bowing. "Well, it 'as a pleasure t' meet you all but I really must be goin'." A playful grin. "I hope you all enjoyed my partin' gift." He turned again, facing his crew before shouting at them to hoist the sails and off they went. It would be a while longer before the ship sailed off into the horizon and was no longer in view.
