Gutting a fish would be sort of an unpleasant experience, but she was up for it anyway. Roasting fish under a bonfire was something she hadn’t done before; but she would certainly try it with Aurelio. Watching him gutting the fish, she understood what she had to do. ”Okay, I’ll do the next one. I’ll try and do my best!” Seraphita gave off a sweet yet nervous smile. ”Hey Aurelio, have you ever had Fish Pie? Maybe when I get better at fishing… I’d like for you to try it out. What do you say?” Fish pie wasn’t sweet like others such as blueberry or pumpkin, but it was very filling like pot pie. |

Wouldn't it make it easier to cut someone's fingers if there were double the count? Aurelio was terrible at both logic and math, so he just shook his head and grinned.
"I bet you'll be a natural at it, just like you are catching them!"
Then she smiled at him and he had to stop and take it in, because it was just too darn cute. A tiny feeling in his stomach started rummaging around down there - which kind of made him feel uncomfortable because he didn't often feel like that - and he suddenly lost his shine for a moment.
It was her voice again that brought him back to reality, after getting lost in her beauty, and he noticed how gentle and nice her voice was. Were all girls like this? He didn't notice these things with his sister, but then again she was his sister. Hazel was pretty, but he didn't feel like this around her. What was happening to him?
He must've looked confused the way he was out for a second, but luckily Sera talked to him.
"Oh, yeah!" he exclaimed, smiling again. ".. Well, no. But I'd love to try it!"
It was a wonder he hadn't had fish pie before, because all he really ate was fish. Since he couldn't really cook, though, he had no creativity and just either baked it or used it in stews or something. Easy things.
"You're gonna make me some?"
He loved her blueberry pie, so a fish pie would probably be just as good! Although not as sweet, he guessed. Fish wasn't sweet.
"First we gotta see if we can catch some more fish, though," he said, tossing the fish into the empty bucket. "And then if we catch a lot, maybe you can take some home and try it out!"
He picked up her fishing pole and handed it to her. "But for now we fish."

Hehe, was that supposed to be a compliment? Sera couldn’t help but blush. This was her first time catching fish, yet she was already getting complimented by Aurelio. As soon as she mentioned food, his eyes lit up. He must always be excited when Sera mentioned food, because he loved her blueberry pie. ”Of course I’ll make you some silly! You know you love my pies.” Her mother had made fish pie before and it was really good, so Sera was going to try making the dish herself. For now though, she needed to gather some fish to make some! Taking the fishing rod Aurelio gave her, she cast her line and waited. ”Do you have any siblings by the way?” |

How'd you know?" he laughed, casting the line of his own fishing pole out in the water. "She's younger than me, but I love her the most of all. She's great." As he was saying that last comment, he looked down at his hands and smiled, mostly to himself. Then, without a moment's notice, he was looking back up at her, grinning. "It's totally awesome having siblings! Do you have any?"
The time went by as they cast their lines out into the water several times, and after an hour or so, the bucket Aurelio had prepared earlier was nearly half-full.
"Well, I think that should do it! We've got more than enough now, for the both of us. You should take one home! They're a little heavy," he said, unsure whether or not she would be able to carry even one of the fish they had caught. "And we'll roast one, so that I can show you that too!" After that there'd be two left, but he wanted to take those home and cook them for his sister.
"Do you wanna gut and cut the fish while I set up a fire?" he asked, the fact that Sera probably didn't want to get more dirty than she already was slipping his mind. Oh well. He could do it if she didn't want to, but he hadn't shown her how to do it earlier for nothing! A big part of him wanted to see if she could do it by herself, so he just grinned and went to gather firewood.

She wouldn’t know, since she was born an only child. She bet it would have been fun, playing with a little brother or sister. She’d love to meet Aurelio’s sister, whenever she had the chance. ”No, but I would have loved having a little sibling. We’d play with each other a lot,” she responded, smiling. A few hours had passed, and her bucket was getting full with fish. Seraphita had become so good at this in just one day. While fish were stinky, they were really good when you cooked them. She couldn’t wait to make the fish pie! When he was worried that she wouldn’t be able to carry the bucket home, Seraphita gave him a reassuring smile then shook her head. ”Don’t worry about me, I can handle carrying heavy things.” She nodded when Aurelio asked if she could gut the fish while he prepared the firewood. With the cutting board he had, Seraphita followed what he showed her earlier, taking out the fish’s innards before casting them out to sea, and applied the technique to the second fish. Now that they were both clean, it was time to cook them on an open fire. ”Aurelio, it’s ready!” |

Not to close to anything bare so that the blaze wouldn't spread, but also not too close to the water so that it wouldn't be taken out by a tiny wave.
When he had decided on a good place, set the wood in a square and lit it, and sharpened a wooden stick on which the fish would be prodded, he looked over at Sera. She called to him that she was done with the fish, and he waved her over.
"Here, let me take the fish and prepare it," he said, reaching for the cleaned game. He stuck the wooden stick through it's body and handed it back to Sera. "Just hold it over the flame, there. Yeah, that looks good." Then he sat down on the sand and leaned back on his arms, watching.
