Today’s weather was a bit of a let down, though other people might argue otherwise. The sunlight was annoyingly brilliant and harsh on Adelaide’s sensitive eyes, driving her to retreat to somewhere a bit further down the beach, under the large patch of shade casted by an unusually large stripped umbrella.
Adelaide was sprawled out on the beach chair in a bikini she was too inmodest to cover, sipping all too leisurely on a fruity drink as she pored over the large sheets of paper on her lap.
Intricate designs filled up most of the page. The ink had faded and smudged here and there from years of use, though still in fairly good condition, good enough for anyone to match the pattern with the grand establishment not too far from where she sat. It was the blueprint for the casino, before its reconstruction decade ago. A little something she – one of the maids, actually, but who cares about technicalities - stumbled upon during Spring Cleaning. She hadn’t gotten bored enough to sit down and actually read it till now. And beneath it was the blueprint for the new building.
As much as the place tried to match the warm atmosphere of the rest of the island, a casino was still... well, a casino. Full of dirty secrets the owners were too eager to hide. Although it looked seemed very different from back in the days, the basic structure remained the same. If she was lucky enough (which she usually was), there would be a secret chamber somewhere that the architect failed to notice during the reconstruction, sitting there to be discovered. Just the thought of it brought a grin to her lips.
