[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,15,true][atrb=style, background-color:#f5f5f5; box-shadow:0px 0px 10px;, b table] everybody talks Leo didn't particularly like cleaning, but on days like this it was pretty much all there was to pass the time... plus, the shop was getting pretty dusty and the boss wasn't gonna be too happy about it. He fetched the duster from the back, took a long look at the dirty shelves, then resigned himself with a sigh. Leo pulled his shirt over his head, (it was pointless to get his clothes dirty, right?) leaving him in a white tank top, and he set off to work.
He tried his best to simply navigate his duster in between the objects on the shelf, aiming for minimal effort, but the obvious lines between dusted and not dusted areas was too obvious. Leo began relocating things to the floor as he cleaned, getting so much into it that he even began to hum to himself nonchalantly.
When the door opened, Leo didn't exactly hear the bell ring, so when there was a tap at his shoulder the fact that he nearly jumped three feet in the air from surprise was to be expected. "What?" he nearly yelled, whipping around to look at his aggressor - only to find a young woman. She was maybe a few years younger than Leo, with dark hair that framed her pretty face.
If it was even possible, Leo could swear he felt his heartbeat skip in panic. He couldn't exactly escape forward since this girl was blocking his way, so his body's reaction was simply to hurl him backwards into the shelves. Nearly knocking a pot over, Leo scrambled, throwing a hand out against the wall to prevent him from tripping and falling.
The girl simply giggled at him, despite the clear exasperation on Leo's face. "Did I scare you?" she asked, dipping her head to one side, "I'm sorry, I thought you heard me enter."
Well, obviously not... was what Leo would have said if he could really talk at all.
"It's... fine," he replied instead, straightening out and once again gaining his characteristically cool composure. Leo awkwardly stepped around the female, feeling uncomfortable being so close to her and also being trapped against the wall. "What could I help you with?" he asked once he finally had his back to her. He put his duster down and then pretended to fix something on the counter.
The girl was confused, but chalked it up to Leo's discontent from her accidentally frightening him. It turned out the girl just wanted to buy a hammer for her father. Leo picked out a good one then sold it to her, and she was on her merry way. After she left, Leo slumped down a bit, rubbing his face with his palm in relief.
Too bad all of that had been so noisy. | [atrb=valign, top] ► jane |

Jane had been in the back, cleaning up. There wasn't much for her to do, kind of a lazy day. Jane liked those kinds of days though, days where she could have time to think, and clean. Cleaning wasn't to bad at least it was better then laying around in a hospital bed all day. Still, the quite was interrupted by the bell chiming as a girl walked in. Jane set down her broom, and walked out, but it seemed that Leo had it already, or well. He was up against the wall, looking like a deer in the headlights as a small girl was in front of him. It was something Jane had noticed, that he was always more timid of girls. Still wasn't an excuse to be rude and mean to people. Still, Jane couldn't help but find it kind of.. cute? in a way. She smiled and walked over to him, knowing he'd want a little of a break. Still, she couldn't help it she just wanted to talk to him. Not only that, but he did a good job and he needed to hear it.
"Hey.." she started, Jane's voice had always been quite all her life. She'd just never really had time to go outside and develop a loud voice. One of the reasons she hated talking to customers, she was always getting the same old same old "what? Can you repeat that?" She guessed that nothing was that big of a deal, but still she was embarrassed by it. She smiled at Leo and attempted to be a bit louder so he could hear her. "You did a good job there." She didn't know why, but she had this thing about him that she just wanted to talk to him, learn about him. Learn why he was so timid around the opposite gender. Unless he was a total pervert and couldn't look at a girl without thinking about their boobs.
She'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt though, and say that he was just nervous because he didn't know how to communicate to women very well. And if that was the case, she'd like to see if she could help him get comfortable around her... if she can deal with his rude remarks without going crazy. She took a deep breath, ready for his response, doubting it'd be to kind.

Leo straightened up at the sound, turning his head to watch as she approached. His stomach was already in knots from so much excitement, but Jane had such a kind face, so kind in fact that even Leo couldn't help but notice it.
Not that he would ever tell her that, though. Even if they worked here together pretty much every day of the week, Leo didn't know a single thing about Jane; they never had proper conversations. Jane had tried, sure... but Leo found a reason to excuse himself after just a few sentences exchanged. Today, though, there wasn't any way to pretend there was an urgent task to do, or a customer to help. The shop was dead.
"Yeah, well," Leo mumbled, scratching at the back of his neck, "it's just a hammer."
He did know a few observable things about Jane, however: she was pretty, that much was sure. Her blonde hair always seemed to fall perfectly, her eyes were blue but not in the cold way, and her dainty body type was very cute. It was a wonder that Leo even noticed these things... he sometimes found it hard to look at her for more than ten seconds straight.
He tore his eyes away from her face, staring absently at where the pots were on the floor. "I'm just glad I didn't knock anything over. Would'a came out of my paycheck." | [atrb=valign, top] ► jane |

Jane giggled looking at the pots, and nodded. "Yeah, though..." she started walking over and picking up one of the things that had fallen. "I probably would have taken the blame for you." she stated before putting it back up onto the shelf, and turned and flashed him another smile, before walking back over, she wondered if he minded having her around. She was sure if she was annoying her, he would avoid her like he always did. Shrugging, Jane would just have to work slowly in order to gain his friendship. Still, he didn't leave right away as normal so maybe she had a chance to get to know more about him.
Jane had to mull over in her head how to start a conversation though. To give her some time Jane took a rag and began to wash the counter, making it look like she was working. Couldn't take a break, she didn't want to get in trouble in case the boss walked in. Still she had an opportunity she couldn't lose, but what to talk about? Should she ask him something? Or should she just start talking? Well, asking personal questions to someone wasn't a good way to start it out with someone like him.
"You know Leo, I've never been mining before." she stated, wetting up the rag again and washing part of the counter that was harder for her to reach. "I mean, I've always wanted to try, but I've never had the tools." she said, hoping he'd reply with more than just an "okay."

He couldn't fathom why Jane would want to do something like that for him. Was she really that much of a bleeding heart? "Not like the Boss would believe you anyway."
Leo took a seat behind the counter, watching as Jane busied herself with mundane tasks. It was easier to look at her like this, when she wasn't right beside him and looking at his face. When it was like this, he could prop up his elbow on the table, cradle his face in his palm and just look at the entirety of the shop. It wasn't too big, in fact it was attractively modest. They had just enough space to sell their wares.
He could almost have spaced out and forgotten the whole incident with the customer until Jane began to wipe down the counter right by him. Leo blinked his eyes back into awareness and watched her hands attempt to extend beyond a space she could reach. He exhaled slowly, as if gathering nerve, then reached out to take the wet cloth from Jane's hands without actually touching her fingers. He wiped down the space she was trying to reach then slid the towel back down to her.
"You could buy the tools here," Leo suggested, knowing they had a hammer or two that Jane could use, "Probably at a discounted price, even."
How was it that someone could work at the mining shop but never mined?
"How... come you've never tried?" he asked slowly. | [atrb=valign, top] ► jane |

Jane was surprised as he took the cloth from her hand, he had gotten a lot closer to her then she expected. He still refused to touch her, she watched him wipe the place, leaning against the counter. Jane took the cloth back, and set it aside taking a momen to just talk to Leo would be nice. Not like there was a lot of work. She took a moment to look at him, it never really occurred to her how attractive Leo was. Well, she knew that he was attractive, but she never really looked at him, never realized the way his face was shaped was real nice, his arms where nice too. He was taller then her, but she kind of liked it, like he could protect her if something happened. She shook the thoughts away and sighed.
"My bills are to expensive, I don't have any extra money." She said nervously, knowing she doesn't get paid enough with the medication she had. She hated admitting that she wasn't getting the help she needs, but she refused to have her parents pay anything more. Oh well, no helping it, after all death was just around the corner. Though, his next question confused her a little bit. It was a small town, everyone knew.. surly he did? The guy she worked with all the time. "You.. haven't heard?" How irresponsible of Dylan, what if she had a heart attack on the job! He should have told him.. Oh well, never mind that.
"I have a weak heart, and I can't do excessive exercise." she stated looking at the ground in a bit of sadness, but put on a fake smile, just for him. "On the bright side I was supposed to die before I even made it to twenty, so that means I'm getting better right?" she said, not wanting to upset him. "I'm surprised Dylan didn't tell you.. would have been bad if I had a heart attack." She looked down at her chest and touched it, wondering why she was cursed like this. She needed to get over it, no use crying. "Mining is on my bucket list before I die though, so I'll probably try it soon anyway."

People have stopped him on the street and asked him how Jane was doing, as if he really knew what was going on in her life just because they worked together. Leo knew what they were all referring to though - her heart. He just didn't know how serious it was and refused to believe rumors from third parties. He'd rather hear it from Jane.
"Dylan told me you were sick," he reassured calmly, eyes trained on the front door. Even if he hadn't been fully aware of the situation, if Jane had a heart attack Leo felt that he would have the right state of mind to take her to a hospital. He wasn't an idiot. Still, he wanted to know how Jane got an interest in mining at all if she had never tried it. He didn't dare ask.
"If you can't do excessive exercise, mining is just going to make it worse," Leo told her, sounding a bit cruel despite trying to be honest, "there are some things you can't do even if you want to. We all grow up and learn that." He closed his eyes, a rigid expression on his face. Leo really didn't intend to hurt her feelings, but the words hurled out of his mouth just the same.

Jane was happy to know he had heard. Glad she hadn't been in danger the past few days, some people could freak out from the unexpected event. It wasn't that she thought he was stupid, she just wanted him prepared. As he told her that she couldn't do it, she looked at the ground and did small little circles with her toe. They all grow up and learn that? Jane wouldn't get that pleasure, wouldn't get the pleasure of learning all of that. She looked over at him, keeping calm and simply said. "I wont." She looked back at the ground, wanting to leave. It was mean, he hurt her feelings. Still, she just decided to continue.
"There are other things I want to do, that aren't like that." she nodded "Like.. I want to go horse back riding one day. That shouldn't be to much. And.. I'd like to stay up for a whole day straight with someone! I wanna go dancing.." she started to list all her things, all the little things she had dreamed of, before blushing and looking at the ground feeling kind of silly, adding,"With a boy..." she smiled at him, forgetting his rude comment and saying. "I also would like to write a whole notebook full of poems." she stated with a nod. Before walking to him, and putting her face in his. "So, don't tell me I can't do my dreams, because I can." At least that's what she told herself. If she didn't, she wouldn't be able to get out of bed in the morning.
She wouldn't be able to live.
Jane was being a little mean, she noticed he doesn't like looking at her in the eye and now she was forcing him. But he deceived it! You don't just do that to someone. Still she pulled away pretty fast so he wouldn't feel to awkward. She laughed a little bit, feeling bad for scolding him a little. "I know you're just being honest. It's okay, I'm not mad." she stated with a sigh, and shrugging.

Leo's eyes went wide as Jane came in close and stuck up for herself. He had never seen her look so determined or stern. He might have been impressed if it weren't for the fact that their faces would touch if either of them moved any further forward. She was just so close, enough so that Leo could feel his throat closing up.
Jane moved away quickly enough that Leo didn't have to flinch away. He was so shocked, so absolutely flustered that he had absolutely no idea what to say. "Uh," Leo started, removing himself from his spot and taking a step back. "I just... wouldn't want to see you hurt yourself over something like that." Mining was Leo's passion, but all the other things Jane listed seemed a lot more wondrous than being in a cave and hitting things with a hammer. The things Jane wanted were goals that Leo himself could never visualize completing. Horse back riding, sure, but... staying up for a day with someone? Dancing... with a girl? No, Leo mined. He was a miner.
That was all he knew how to do.
"Are you sure?" he asked incredulously, not quite believing that Jane wasn't mad. It's true, he was just trying to be honest in his own way, but that didn't stop people from calling him rude. Leo laughed softly - something he didn't do often, and matched Jane's shrug. "I've never seen you like that before." | [atrb=valign, top] ► jane |

Jane felt real bad after he explained why he said that. She was surprised he wasn't just trying to be mean. He didn't want her harmed. She blushed a bit, she never really got it like that. Doctors only told her that because it was their job, they didn't really care to much. She looked at him, and smiled. "No, it's difficult to get me angry." she said with a smile and looked him over once, debating something before nodding. She was a little hurt, but she got over it easily. Those where things she'd been told her whole life, but it didn't hurt as bad when it was from someone who didn't want something to happen to her. She couldn't help but be a little happy that he was worried about her. Now, why was that? ... It didn't matter she was just being silly.
Then an idea sprung in her head, and she put on an obviously fake scowl on her face. Then walked over. "Just kidding I'm real mad." She said trying to look angry, but ended up just kind of looking.. silly. She wasn't a very good actress after all, it just wasn't her forte. "To make up for making me real mad, you have to take me mining." She stated, nodding firmly. "I wont even do anything, just... walk around while you hit things with a hammer or whatever." She said, this time pretty much begging him to let her go. Like a child asking a parent to do something that they weren't supposed to. Except, she probably could get away with this. After all, he was the only person to seem to be worried about her and he'd want to be with her rather then her go on her own. Her parents, but her parents tend to pretend she doesn't exists so they don't have to think about how they failed on a child. None of that bothered Jane, it wasn't like she knew much else.

Leo stammered, his whole body tensing as Jane prowled over with a humorously angry expression. He didn't want to look her in the eye - no, he couldn't, he can't, his heart was beating fast and - his eyes caught hers and her bad acting tickled something inside Leo. He laughed, not just a soft chuckle under his breath, but actually laughed. "I think you're nuts," he exhaled, and his shoulders relaxed a bit. Did she really want to go mining that bad? Honestly, it piqued Leo's interest at least a bit; he loved mining and seeing someone else so desperate to try it was kind of awesome.
"Maybe..." he murmured, looking up into the corner of his eyes to break the eye contact. "I could... let you help me clean off the ore and gems we find. Maybe."
Leo looked unsure, as if there was some sort of internal battle going on inside of him and it showed on his face. Did he really think he could spend time with Jane outside of work? He could barely talk to her now, how could he expect to do it when there was no clock out time where he knew he could go home and escape the situation?
Still, she seemed so hopeful. She really wanted to do this and she was entrusting him to help her accomplish something off of her bucket list. With a deep sigh, Leo glanced at Jane one last time.

Jane was standing, holding her breath she was expecting a no, and then she'd probably leave considering her shift was pretty much over. Jane was typically rejected, always told she couldn't handle it. But that was because people felt it was what was best for her, but at this point she wanted to do what she can before she couldn't. Her completing her dreams was the most important thing at this point and no one could stop her from doing just that. But... when he considered it, her heart pretty much skipped a beat and she stared at him awkwardly with her jaw dropped. Once he confirmed that he'd take her she turned her surprised face into one big happy grin.
"Really?" She said laughing a bit in disbelief. "You better not be joking or I'll be real mad!" she said with her hands on her hips and a nod, punctuating the end of her sentence. She couldn't really believe she was actually going to be able to go. Leo honestly was a better guy then she expected, Jane was happy that she finally got to talk to him. And now, they where going to hang out outside of work! For some reason, Jane couldn't help but feel a little excited about it. Maybe, she and Leo would end up as friends? She hoped so at least... She'd really like that.

Had he really just agreed to this? Being with Jane here for just a few hours during the weekdays was hard enough for him. How was he going to manage taking her mining? She was going to see him when he was his most passionate and vulnerable... Leo had never let a woman be around him in such a state.
But... she looked so happy. There was no way he could take it back now.
"How about this weekend?" Leo asked, training his eyes on the front door. No one was gonna come in, on their best day they still only saw three or so people in the store... And that had been the second customer that Leo had tended to. They were probably done for the day and all that was left was the last hours of just sitting around, waiting to punch out.
If Leo was going to have to do this, he may as well get something out of it himself. "But you have to pack us some lunch, alright?"
