Such a peaceful looking place this was. He'd seem many towns since he had left his desert home so long ago that even he has a hard time remembering how long. He'd seen sad places, places that made any who entered sad for being there. He'd even seen places that made him feel dirty for spoiling it. This place though, it had bits of pieces of each. It was a pleasant places.
He decided then and there that this place would be as good as any to stay for a bit. With having a large amount of years ahead of him, he didn't really see it mattering how long he stayed in one place. He adjusted the knapsack on his shoulder. In it he had a few pairs of clothes, food, water, and a brass lamp that he never let leave his sight.
He was still wearing an outfit that seemed as if he had just stepped from a desert kingdom, some called him a wandering genie actually. He was always amused with that. Out of habit, he went towards the city hall. "Hello?" He called out when he entered. He hoped he was speaking the right language. Traveling so many places got a bi confusing in the language department.
When no answer came, he shrugged to himself and started exploring. He entered the first door that met his fancy and he was met with a massive library. His curiosity got the better of him, so he stepped in and did the one thing you shouldn't do upon entering a library. "Hey, is there anyone in here!?" He yelled into what appeared to be an empty library. | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:100px; background-color:#f1f1f1, bTable] | made by rustyfox ★ of btn |

His scowl was clear, his eyes looked like they could pierce through flesh. He had been hearing stories of one such librarian that he works with on occasion feeding a cat that strolled into the library and soon made its home there, seemingly undetected by his normally careful, observant eyes. It was utter madness, he thought! How could such a creature evade his eyes when he took many years to know every nook and cranny of this place? Still, whenever it was in the morning, the sprawling library was tidy and magnificent. All the flowers were watered, the busts cleaned, every book placed in order alphabetically and whatever genre it was and where appropriate. The library was his pride and joy, no chair in a table was out of place in the middle, but if there was one such place that deserved most of its care was the grand piano displayed in one corner of the library. Whenever it was in the morning and preparing to open the place, he would sit and happily play for just a little while.
Those were the days that the library was changed into a place for parties, because the place that was normally used for such was going through some renovations. By the time it was done, this spare piano was left here, probably because it was quite heavy and they didn't want to bother, but it was a wonderful piece to the library and oft decorated with roses by its side to make it pop out more. Frederick would be spitting coals if he left such a beautiful instrument to simply sit here with no use, gain dust, and be forgotten like it was back then.
"Such is what we are. If we are forgotten then we cease to exist." He placed a hand on the instrument, forgetting about the earlier troubles he had once though about with that blasted animal, of course he still had work to do and part of that was putting away these last three books. Using his own magic to make the three books levitate and follow him around until he found the place to put them. Sliding one in with subtle wave of his hand, he found himself calmed by having no one here. Being Head Librarian was his duty, and getting here first was both a pleasure and an obligation of his job, but when he heard the door open he turned to the direction of the front door, but of course because he was in the back he couldn't directly see it.
What he heard next was baffling. A voice! It cut through the wonderful silence like a knife through butter. The shock of this atrocity made the books fall from gravity, but realizing his blunder, he focused on the books once more and made them float before they hit the floor and made more noise.
Huffing, he grabbed the two levitating books in his arms and walk towards the main entrance. Oh he was going to give this offender a massive verbal thrashing, he thought, but what he saw made him halt in his mental tracks. The garb he wore hinted heavily at being foreign compared to his vest, white buttoned shirt underneath, and pants. With his free hand, he stood tall, adjusting his glasses with a light sigh. "I don't know if there is a sufficient library where you hail from, but that is no need to cause such a ruckus in this one." His eyes narrowed, showcasing his usual irritated yet professional expression. "Now, since you're so readily apparent for assistance, how may I help you?" There was a slight glare of the light from his glasses, giving him more of that intimidating presence he usually had to others around him.
"I am the Head Librarian, Frederick Marley, and I assure you, I will be able to fulfill any library-exclusive request." | [atrb= cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0px,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border-radius: 0 0 30 0; background-color: #F8F8F8; border: #E9E9E9 solid 4px; padding: 6px;]

This was one of those days where he would just start walking and end up somewhere; a day without a plan. He had a lot of those days, in fact, but not all of them led him to the City Hall of all places.
It wasn't like he had never been there before, but everytime he found himself in front of the heavy steps leading to the office of the Mayor, Aurelio had to stop and stare. Which was probably why his feet led him there so many times, because why else? Aurelio was far from particularly interested in libraries, and he had no business with the Mayor or anyone else who worked there. It really was a wonder he hadn't lose his job at the fish shop already, the way he was skipping his work all the time. With a light shrug, the brunette decided to enter and so without much further ado the male reached his hand out to the handle and opened the large door, all the while whistling cheerfully.
Within was just as he remembered. Although his memory sometimes eluded him, images of places tended to etch into his brain. He had a harder time with people's faces, which he could never really get a hang of.
There was not a single soul to be seen inside, Aurelio noticed. He got a sudden urge to make noises to see if there was any echo in there, but instead he heard people talking from another room. It was the library, where they stored all their books. Obviously. The last thing he heard was the introduction of a certain head librarian, and with that Aurelio had to grin. The brunette rarely had any business at the City Hall or their library, but he knew the man who tended to the lonely books they kept. His precious books, they probably were. Aurelio grinned again and hurried inside.
"Frederick! You're working hard as always!" he exclaimed, a little too loud for the other male's liking most likely, and then blinked once he saw the other person in the room. A traveller, it looked like, because of the clothes and gear, and the fact that Aurelio had never seen him before. Not that he would remember every single face in this town, but he had no recollection of this one whatsoever, and thus he had to be an outsider. "Uwoh - you look like you need a shower." No one said Aurelio was a man of elegance.

Faris could have sworn that he heard the sounds of shuffling around but it was far off. His curiosity only intensified. He had yet to see a single individual in this town, and now he found himself wondering if they were all some sort of strange magical beings that couldn't be seen by normal means. Faris knew of spells so that he could see what was unseen but he decided that if there was a presence aside from his own he would be able to pick it up.
Then as if to prove his point, he picked up a presence heading towards him. He turned in the direction it was coming from and patiently waited for them to make an appearance. The man who came in practically screamed librarian from the glasses, to his attire, to his sinister expression. Faris only grinned at his comments, adjusting the knapsack he held over his shoulder, his other hand resting on his waist. He looked the other man over and came to some conclusions about him.
"You're an old fart, aren't you? Definitely a magical being of some sort." He walked towards the man, circling him as if he was on display. "I can't put an exact date on how old though but I may just be older than you. Then again I really don't even know how old I am so the point is mute."
With that last statement he stopped in front of the man again, a grin still on his face with a thoughtful expression. "I need to know the name of this place and a little history on it. Along with some relevant or noteworthy features of it as in the primary source of wealth and it's hierarchy."
Then before the man could reply to Faris' form of greeting, another man appeared. This one, didn't look so old. Faris could usually tell from the air around the person and this one, was human and not very old at that, hardly out of teenage years if he had to guess. Then the two made eye contact and Faris' decided right then and there that he liked this one. The young man then proceeded to say that Faris looked like he needed a shower.
Faris openly laughed, "You have no idea. I don't even remember the last town I actually had the option to shower in. I've just been using rivers and streams until now." He grinned and offered this male his free hand. "I'm Faris Karim, and I'm looking to settle down in your town if you'd allow. Although right now I don't even know it's name."

And old fart. It had to be a casual insult, and if his glasses would break from sheer irritation than they would have that very instant. He circled him like a predator, still speaking and then standing in front of him again with a relaxed expression. Frederick simply sighed and pursed his lips to speak, but a very annoying young man had to come and ruin it completely. He called his name, clarifying that he was working hard as he always did. His eyebrows lowered and a soured thin-lipped expression took over his face. That, and he told the other man, named Faris, that he needed to shower. "Have you no manners? And of course I work hard, Aurelio, because I have a job. You also have one, but for some unknown reason to me, you keep skipping to do unimportant things for the duration." He turned to place the two books in his possession on his desk where he sat to greet those who came in. He turned to the two men, now thinking of the questions that Faris asked of him.
"You've come to the right place for such an inquiry. You are situated upon a peninsula named Sepalum, aptly named from flowers. Sepalum is diverse in its gain of wealth, tourism helped immensely in its beginnings, and is now a frequent shipper of goods originating from farming and the efforts of fishing, of course there are other means but that is the most reliable and constant source for every year. We have a mayor and this is the town hall, however I am unable to assist you with becoming a citizen, that is his job." He slid off his glasses and began to clean them with a silk rag. "We have many noteworthy festivals, but I can say that lately we've been having strange...difficulties with the fertility of the soil amongst other things." Frederick actually showed some noteworthy emotion, concern rolling into his features, frowning gently. "Regardless, the people are friendly and hard working. ...some of them anyway." He glared at Aurelio, may he feel the burn of his disapproval for his laziness.
"You will be welcomed, I'm sure. ...and calling me an old fart isn't something you say as a greeting, especially when you contradict yourself and are possibly older than me." He gave a small nod. "Come here any time you need to procure some books for leisure or studies. I have every which imaginable." | [atrb= cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0px,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border-radius: 0 0 30 0; background-color: #F8F8F8; border: #E9E9E9 solid 4px; padding: 6px;]

"If I was working right now I would miss this rare occasion! Of -" he glanced at the outsider and thought hard for a moment, figuring out what he should say until it appeared to him "- a new face!"
His eyes lit up as well when the outsider turned to him and spoke, before offering him his hand, which the brunette happily took. Aurelio felt bad for the man, having had no showers in a while. "You can use mine, if you want!" he exclaimed, letting go of the man's hands and clapping his own together exitedly, as always.
"It's very nice to meet you, Faris Karim -" Before he could say anything else, however, Frederick opened his mouth again and began telling the newcomer about their town. Aurelio had no idea if what the old fart told Faris was true or not, but during his speech he just stared at them both and nodded happily. If anyone knew Sepalum's history it would be Fredrick, right?
As the old librarian finished up his speech, Aurelio was still nodding to himself, especially happy about the notion on fishing being a big export from Sepalum in which he had the biggest contribution, until he heard talk of "hard work". "Oi. Are you referring to me? I'm totally hard working! I catch at least ten fish each day, you know," he said, counting on his fingers until he figured out what he said was correct and nodded to himself. Then he turned to Faris and grinned. "You will be welcomed, by me! Come stay at my house until you get yourself settled, okay? I bet my sister's gonna love the company!" And Aurelio would too, of course. "Oh, and if you do anything to Fred's books he's gonna be very angry at you." He added the last part because he thought the guy needed to know. Being an old fart didn't mean he couldn't get feisty with you, and Aurelio liked to avoid it as much as he could, although most of the time luck didn't come to him.
"Ohh! That's right, I haven't introduced myself," he laughed and reached up with his hand to scratch the back of his head sheepishly. "I'm Aurelio Romano, and I do this town's best fishing! You should join me some time. Do you fish?"

The "old fart" or as the other guy, Aurelio, called him, Fredrick, seemed slightly put off by Faris' introduction. It seemed he didn't take to kindly to being called an old fart by someone who may just be older than him. Faris did learn a lot between these two interacting though, their names, their jobs, and some of their personality. Fredrick was obviously a stick-in-the-mud, a man who was so caught up in his work that he seemed to be grumpy to others who weren't. Aurelio seemed like a spontaneous guy, if he was skipping work then he had a a hard time focusing or he just liked to get away for a bit. Aurelio shook his hand and offered him a shower. Faris grinned, "Thanks but I wouldn't want to bother you, I'll just bunk up at an inn if you have one." So far, Faris found that he was going to like the people of... Sepalum, as Fredrick informed him.
He turned his head to Fredrick as he explained where he was and the basic system they had set up. A Mayor was in charge then. He had been in a town or two with those so he knew what the basics of that were. He also heard how he would make his income. Faris casually overlooked the man's glare and his pointed insult at Aurelio but Aurelio speaking up in his defense caught his attention and he watched as the man counted out ten before he nodded. These two were pretty interesting characters.
He decided he would put himself up as a hired hand. It was a good way to get around and meet people he supposed but he would have to find a place to sleep which meant he would need to find an inn for the night. He was caught up in these plans so he didn't even hear Fredrick telling him is words contradicted him.
"I see, thanks ol- Fredrick. I guess I'll have to speak with the Mayor then. I'm probably going to stick around for awhile."
Then the guy offered him his home. Faris gave him a questioning look. was her serious about giving housing to a complete stranger? He smiled though, "Well, if you're offering then I don't see why I should say no. Plus I don't even know where the inn is so easier for me I guess. I'll try to get out of your hair soon though." He wondered what this guy's relationship with his sister was like that he could offer their home to a male stranger but Faris wasn't about to try anything, a small town like this was not a good place to start anything.
Then Aurelio finally introduced himself. He offered his home then introduced himself. He was pretty entertaining though. "Actually, I've done some fishing. When you have to bath in rivers and streams, it's good to double task and catch dinner too." He winked and chuckled at that. It was true though, fish was the easiest source of food other than the fruits and berries out there, but fish didn't really require former knowledge to avoid poisoning, or at least not many fish.

Despite being a completely lazy sort, he figured that most humans had a knack of being sociable creatures more than his kin. He spoke, energetically as usual, stating that if he hadn't he wouldn't have been able to meet a new face. What, did he operate on friendship than say food and sleep? That seemed a lot more believable than any other natural form of sustenance for any living being. The two men hit it off rather well from what he knew of social graces, shaking hands and the like. He happily offered to let the man shower at his place, which Faris declined out of respect for his home and not wanting to be a burden. Of course, after his explanation, Aurelio tried to prove him wrong in his assumption of his work output. Ten fish a day? Commendable, but it wasn't for his job. "I see you lollygagging all of the time, if only you would put such effort for the job that supports you maybe I would stop nagging you about it."
Faris thanked him, eliciting a small sound of acknowledgment from his lips over this. He certainly appreciated it in his own way. "Pay it no mind, simply doing my job." His relaxed yet neutral expression slowly soured back to annoyance when Aurelio mentioned the book problem he had and getting angry over it. "You threw a book I lent you into the river, thinking that 'fish need to be smart too'. The abomination of your act still weighs heavy on me. ....and you still owe me money from it because of your illogical folly." He sighed deeply, rubbing his temples and wanting to forget this. He was so angry that one of the other librarians told him he resembled a ripe, red tomato. Still, Faris didn't seem mentally challenged like Aurelio so he felt that he was a lot more reliable for small talk then he was. Most 'big words' he spoke went completely past him anyway.
"Well I th-..." His words were interrupted by an abrupt 'meowing' in the distance and a jingling of a bell that Frederick figured was around its neck "That damned cat the other Librarians keep around without my permission..." He sighed again, just another nuisance that he was trying to fix. When he saw a black and white cat with a bright red ribbon around its neck he simply stood and stared. "...what was its name..." He tried to remember, watching the cat approach, undeterred by the Head Librarian's usual grumpy attitude and aura. "...Murphy." He knelt down and picked up the cat in his arms, the cat easily melting into his arms, eying the other two men with bright green eyes. "I've been looking for this cat for what feels like an entire lifetime." He opted to try not caring, but the constant meowing and pawing from it loosened that resolve.
"...I suppose I should go to the General Store for food for Murphy. If you want to come along I won't stop you. Think of it was a tour." He walked past them, opening the door, turning his head to look at the two before closing it. He expected Aurelio to follow, as he always did for some sort of adventure, but he didn't know Fasir well. | [atrb= cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0px,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border-radius: 0 0 30 0; background-color: #F8F8F8; border: #E9E9E9 solid 4px; padding: 6px;]

Why would it be? Faris seemed like a perfectly normal person, except for his attire and travel history. And he really did look like he could use one - or several. Maybe they could even hear about a story or two from his travels? That would probably be fun for both him and his sister. At least he thought so. And offering to shelter him for a while was only polite, he knew. Aurelio was even curious to why Frederick hadn't already done so, because he was the more proper of the two. Oh well.
Faris agreed to his offer after a while, which made the light brunette grin and clap his hands together again. "So you'll come? I'm sure my sister's gonna be thrilled!" Or not, he really wasn't sure, but on the other hand he didn't really care either. He took care of her so why would she object?
Then Frederick commented on his skipping work, at which Aurelio frowned. "I sell most of the fish I catch, you know! I can't possibly eat all of them by myself!" Then he turned to Faris and smiled. "The inn's really not that far," Aurelio pointed to a book-covered wall, hinting that it lay in the direction of the tip of his finger, although how he would he know from that would only worry people like Frederick, "but it's much cheaper at my place! And there's plenty of fish, apparently." That last note was for the old fart.
"Hey, they do need to be smart! How else are they going to survive? Although, I guess, that makes it harder for me to catch them .." he said, reacting to Frederick's outburst about the book he had thrown in the river after having been forcefully lent it. He would never pay for the damn thing, though, because why was he even loaning it out to him in the first place when he knew that the fisherman never read?
Aurelio couldn't help snicker at the image of the old man right now, rubbing his temples and being all angered. "See what I mean?" he said to Faris, then proceeded to stick out a tongue to the librarian before a cat suddenly appeared. "Uwoh - I didn't know you kept cats in here!" he said excitedly, then remembered something very important and the amused look on his face vanished.
"I'm totally allergic to them, though .. didn't you know, Fred?" He blinked at the man in question, then glanced down at the cat now positioned in the old fart's arms. "It sucks, but I totally can't be near them!" A slight panic rose in him, even while he was pouting, but looked up at Frederick again. Despite how much he thought cats were cute, he was very allergic to them. "You're not going to bring it, right?" If he did, Aurelio would have to stay behind. "Don't bring it, okay? I wanna go to the general store with you, so don't bring it, okay?" He then followed after the old librarian, grabbing Faris by the arm. "It'll be fun! You'll even see where the inn is, if you ever need it!"

Their banter was actually pretty nice to see. It also gave Faris an opportunity to study and get to know how the people of this town interacted around each other. So far, it seemed like the town was pretty open. Although Faris was kind of sure that it might just be that Aurelio was just a bit open and Fredrick was fine with insulting others and defending himself openly. Either way, he was liking the company.
He felt the cat approach before he heard the meow. He looked at the cat with a very interested gaze. This was his first time seeing such a small feline up close. In the desert there hadn't been many cats, not even the large ones. The only big cats they saw were brought in from foreign places and kept as exotic pets. Even Faris had owned a large cat, though he hadn't kept it long. He wanted to see if he could pet it but it went to Fredrick who picked it up after he told them it's name. Murphy, an odd name for a cat, or a pet in general for that matter.
He really wanted to pet the black cat and it's green eyes were on him for a moment, a mirror to his own. Then Aurelio's words came to him. Allergic to cats... that wasn't good. Faris really wanted to go but if he was staying with Aurelio then he would have to go with him. Which sucked because Faris wanted so badly to play with the cat.
"I'm fine with going to the General Store but if Aurelio is allergic maybe it's best if we leave it here then?" Then Aurelio grabbed his arm and dragged him along after Fredrick. It seemed even being allergic to the cat wasn't going to keep Aurelio from showing the town to Faris.

"Well, no, it wasn't of my doing. The others let him in, but it has brought more people to the library." Maybe keeping Murphy was a good idea, that way, the impressionable people that loved pets would come more often. Murphy seemed to have that magic charm about him, but he watched as he was content to pawing at his own tie for amusement while in his arms. Hearing of his allergy though put him at a cause of alarm. Allergies were not something to be messed with depending on the degree. He looked down at Murphy, green eyes looking up at him in response to the stare. "Very well." He grabbed Murphy with both hands, placing him down on a desk nearby. "Behave, we'll return soon with your food." The tuxedo cat seemed to understood, laying down on the desk because the sun hit it just right and he could sunbathe a bit while in wait.
When the three men left the building, they were greeted with the pleasant warmth of spring and flowers blooming everywhere. He took a deep breath and exhaled gently. "Spring is lovely this year. Hopefully it's a sign of better things to come." He began walking the path, the many buildings coming to view immediately. "You'll notice that City Hall is surrounded by other buildings in a circle. We have The Mayor's house right there, closest in sight to the right when you first leave this Hall. I imagine you'll be going there soon." He pointed to a well made building. Then the next is the Fish Shop where Aurelio tries working at." He then pointed to another building, smaller, but modest. "In front of us directly is the Jewelry Store, they have many rings and other things there. Even if just to browse, the selection is very extensive. Now, next to it is the Clothing Store. ...I go there often for new ties and suits." He gave a nod.
"And finally in our range of sight is the General Store where I need to purchase Murphy's food. Come." He ushered the two to follow, beginning to walk towards it calmly, the church next to it coming to view, grand in its design. "Just kidding~" Obviously Aurelio liked to joke around a lot, but most of the time his jokes just became awkward. "I'll just have to drag you out into the sun instead, just like now!" Nevermind the fact that it was Aurelio who was being "dragged" outside. The brunette was glad Frederick let the feline stay behind, however, because he would be getting far worse symptoms than just watery eyes if the exposure was greater. And he really hated having rashes.
When they got outside, Aurelio let go of Faris' hand and walked ahead of Frederick. Then behind both of them, and around again. He kept this up until the old far mentioned the fish shop. "I totally work there often enough, Fred, it's not like they don't have more people who work there, you know?" Although he really had no idea of their schedules, so truth be told there could be no one working there right now. Oh well. He stopped for a moment in front of the shop to look inside the windows to see if there were anyone inside and to his relief - well, whatever relief he could find because he just didn't care too much - there were someone behind the counter.
Aurelio then grinned as the librarian moved on and followed as he had before, folding his hands behind his back. When they got to the general store, after Frederick had made a move for them to follow him inside, Aurelio turned to Faris. "You won't be seeing Fred around town much, you know, 'cause he hates being around people, but just do what I do and annoy him. Maybe he'll eventually stop being so grumpy, ne?" Then he turned back around towards the general store and entered after the man in question with Faris in tow.

Faris watched as Aurelio and Frederick settled whether they were going as a group or if Fredrick would just take the cat along and leave them to their own devices. Faris was sad to leave the cat alone, fighting with wanting to stay and play with the curious little four legged feline. It took a lot for him to leave the city hall and step out into the spring weather. Faris made note of what Fredrick said about "better things to come". He could only naturally assume that this place was having it's share of bad luck.
He titled his head and wondered what could be causing such a beautiful place bad luck. He followed beside Fredrick as he explained the buildings as they passed, making note of where he would check out later and places he wouldn't go to unless he was dragged. Aurelio seemed to be off in his own world as he took the lead then fell behind then took the lead again. Faris wondered if he did this often when he walked with others. He looked at the Mayor's house with some interest, taking in the architecture of the building and found it very... small compared to the palace he had called home before now.
He noticed Frederick poking fun at Aurelio's workmanship again and he could only grin. Frederick liked causing mischief in his own way. Faris decided to take back his old fart remark, the man obviously had some young qualities to him. Faris shrugged at Frederick's question as they began to walk towards the general store. "Not really, this place seems pretty self-explanatory. Nothing like my birthplace all complicated alleyways and bazaars." He shook his head at the memory. It wasn't uncommon to get lost in the streets of his home. The unlucky never found their way and were never heard from again, most likely after being robbed of everything they owned.
Faris turned his attention to Aurelio when he felt his gaze on him. He grinned at the statement , putting his hands on his waist and tilting his head to a side. "Sounds fun enough to me, where can I sign up for the Fred Liberation Association?" It was a name that just jumped into his head but he liked the sound of it. "The main goal being to get Frederick to stop being such an old-but-not-as-old-as-me fart."
With that, he followed after his two newfound friends into the General Store.
