Born in the ocean, Mifuji was raised by her father for her mother died in childbirth. Her father, however, never showed his grief and always had a smile on his face and time for her. His one rule was to avoid trouble and never talk about mother and at a young age Mifuji saw no problem with these rules. She loved her father dearly and would make necklaces and other jewelery for him from material she found there in the ocean. Her father saw her talent and encouraged her to continue to develop this kill.

As Mifuji entered adolescence she began to wonder about her mother, though was hesitant to talk to her father about it because of the rule. When she finally gathered the courage to ask father about mother he shouted and raged. This terrified Mifuji for she had never seen her father so angry and swam away in tears. Though, she didn't stop swimming and soon came upon a distance shore. Too scared to go home she stayed near the beach to give her father time to cool down. After a week she returned to home, but her father was gone. Thinking he had left for only an hour or so she waited at home, but days passed, then weeks but she refused to think that her father abandoned her.

Though, as more time passed the realization slowly creeped up on her and when it took hold it broke her heart in a hundred ways. Mifuji finally left home and wondered the ocean for the next decades to come. The more she traveled the more jaded and callous she became for she couldn't see the good in the world, only the bad. She made little friends and continued to move when either she made too many enemies or became tired of the scenery.
