FINNEGAN WEST
twenty-four · male · bartender · townsperson
personality
positive
- friendly;
[/li][li]genuine;[/b] Finn typically wears his heart on his sleeve. His often loud personality means that he is sincere in what he does; otherwise he feels like he's wasting your time. When he tells you something, it's clear that he means it. He may talk a lot but he doesn't spew empty words.
[/li][li]ambitious;[/b] His goal to become a rancher doesn't allow him to be lazy. Once Finn sets his sights to something, he rarely will back down from it. He'd have to exhaust all possible options first, and given his innovative mind, this might take ages. He's always got to be doing something, and isn't really a fan of moments spend idling around.
[/li][li]loyal;[/b] Because of his social nature Finn may acquire a lot of acquaintances and friends, but to each one of them he's steadfast to the end. Even so, Finn knows that it's better to have a few really close friends than a million distant ones. He understands the value of strong relationships and works hard to maintain them.
[/li][li]warmhearted;[/b] Oftentimes Finn is the first one to want to lend you a helping hand. Time with his grandfather taught him that compassion is what makes a wise person; that your character is reflected by how you treat people. Finn enjoys the satisfaction of feeling like his presence means something to others. He believes that what you give is what you get.[/li][/ul]
negative
- stubborn;
[/li][li]impulsive;[/b] Finn is a very childlike 24-year-old. He likes to have fun; the adventurous kind. He always wants to try new things. He's a 'shoot first, ask questions later' kind of guy, and this often gets him into trouble. He's not one to mull over making a decision for very long because he doesn't want to waste time. But life can't be lived only in the fast lane.
[/li][li]fiery;[/b] To put it simply, Finn usually tells it like it is. He's not afraid to speak his mind even if it means getting confrontational. If you're getting on his nerves, he'll let you know. Altercations with people as outspoken as himself can get explosive. He will not back down because he doesn't like to lose. This results in him handling some situations poorly, where the proper reaction would have been to just let it go and walk away.
[/li][li]overprotective[/b]; Being an older brother, this is kind of in Finn's DNA. His loyalty to those he cares about means that he'd do just about anything to make sure they were okay. This isn't a bad thing, but Finn can be just plain overbearing. He has yet to firmly grasp the concept that people don't always need or want his help, and that he doesn't always have all the answers.
[/li][li]guarded; Finn may wear his emotions on his sleeve, but personal matters are a different story. He doesn't come from a background of tragedy but his family does have its complications, which he would rather keep hidden. He doesn't want to put a damper on the surroundings by delving into his past even though aspects of it clearly bother him. If conversation gets too deep for him, Finn will divert it quickly. This makes him appear secretive, which can rub people the wrong way. It would take a special person and a lot of time to get him to open up about his family life.

history
Finn is a native of the mainland, in one of its more populous cities. However, he and the Sepalum Peninsula go way back. His grandfather, his mother's dad, spent most of his life as a rancher on the land and Finn, his younger brother, and his mother would take yearly trips to visit him. Since Finn's father hadn't been in the picture for most of his life, his grandfather was the only real paternal figure he ever had. As a young boy Finn fell in love with Sepalum and the ranching life.
When he was in his mid-teens, Finn's grandfather passed away and he was devastated. He pleaded with his mother to revisit Sepalum and make sure that the family ranch didn't fall into ruin. But through his grandfather's death, a more complicated relationship between his mother and her father was revealed. Not only did Finn's mother want to protect him from having to sift among his grandfather's possessions that he valued so much; she was also afraid that Finn would want to follow in his footsteps. She had never approved of such a rustic life, believing that there were far better things in store for her eldest son, and she was still bitter about the fact that her father had spent more time in his work than he had with his family.
Finn's mother was right - his dream was to revive his grandfather's ranch and carry on the tradition. As soon as he turned eighteen and was no longer bound to his life in the city, Finn took his opportunity. He left the mainland with what little resources he had, and all that his mother could provide him. Even though she disapproved of his endeavor, she knew she couldn't control him anymore and she admired his drive. Finn said goodbye to his mother and little brother and has since never regretted moving to Sepalum.
He's made a little life for himself here in six years, despite the fact that his grandfather's ranch has since been torn down. He was able to keep certain possessions and they are littered through his house. Finn did not have the resources to start anew, so he's found work in the bar and a modest house. Finn's ultimate goal is to start a ranch of his own and make it so his mother and younger brother can move in with him. Despite some strained family relationships and a low-paying job, he has never diverted his sights from this dream.
