history
Lysander's birth name is Tamaki - Kitayama Tamaki. Born and raised in Nagasaki, Japan, he was the unexpected bastard child from an affair between the married Kirihara Mamoru, and his mother, Natsuhi. Unaccepted by both his father's family and his mother, who was almost as negligent as they come, he grew up lonely and forced to burden adult responsibilities from a young age. He found solace in the company of the neighborhood children - two in particular: Chiharu and Chiyoko Umemiya, twins that lived across the street. Over the years, the pair became the only real family he had.
His early adolescent years weren't particularly eventful aside from typical growth spurts and hardships of being a tween. Tamaki spent a lot of his time studying to ensure tops marks in school, if only for scholarships and financial aid. Aside from the checks his mother sent him, he was jobless and had no source of income - having a part-time job as a student was, unfortunately, prohibited by the school district. For the most part, Nagasaki was a peaceful and safe place, until the summer of his second year in high-school.
A summer school event went terribly awry and led to a conflict between the high-school faculty and the press, and ultimately, the discharge of Nagasaki's gossip girl Ohayashi Sakura. After a few months, rumors began to spread about increased gang activity - and they weren't far from the truth at all. The three yakuza leaders vanished without a trace, leaving the criminal world in a state of disorder and uproar. Rival gangs and other third parties saw the leaders' absences as opportunities to rise as new authorities, and war ensued. The battles of these felons soon became apparent in the Nagasaki public as individuals used whatever means possible to rise the ladder - including bribery, blackmail, kidnapping, assault, and homicide.
As a third-year in high-school and the second Vice-President of the student council, Tamaki spiraled into a journey through the underground by an unfortunate and traumatic set of events. With a knife held to his throat, he was blackmailed into becoming the accomplice of now psychotic Ohayashi Sakura, who was hell-bent on burning Nagasaki to the ground. She collected her resources to both use him as her eyes and ears inside the high-school, and to implement him as a syndicate of a rising third-party gang. Tamaki served as Sakura's "pet" for just about a year, giving her tips and information from everything to who and what to why, before he could no longer handle the mental stress.
He knew that he would have to defy her, and he knew that she could sense it, too. In a desperate, sick and twisted attempt to further indoctrinate his devotion and obedience, Sakura kidnapped one of the most valuable people in his life: Umemiya Chiyoko. Tamaki was nearly forced to severely injure the older twin, but it was something he could not - would not - do. In the blink of an eye, Tamaki turned on his so-called master, but because of his opposition, Sakura took it upon herself to "punish him for his insolence". She murdered Chiyoko in cold blood for her vengeance, and the incident escalated into an all out battle against death. Tamaki managed to escape with his life, and an extreme knife-wound to his face. Sakura didn't cease there, though - she left him with one last parting gift: a threat to kill Chiharu, too, if he didn't come crawling back to her with his tail between his legs.
Tamaki did the only thing he could think of: he took Chiharu and ran. Using the resources he had gathered from his own involvement in the underground, he contacted a man to fabricate two new identities for himself and his childhood friend. He dyed his red hair brown, changed his named to Lysander Hale, and with a re-invented "sister", Chiharu, fled Japan with all the required IDs, documents, passports, and money to guarantee a safe retreat. He spent an entire year travelling with the person most dear to him, until he brought them to Sepalum, a quiet place where they could settle down and finally be safe.
