Josephine was born far away from Sepalum. It's quite the story, actually, about how she came to the peninsula. Josephine isn't even her real name, and she definitely didn't have blue hair until just a year ago. It's quite an interesting story to tell, if she ever wanted to tell it, but Josephine, or rather Chiharu, would never tell anyone.
She was born and raised in Nagasaki, Japan. Her family of five, including herself, her twin sister Chiyoko, older brother Naoki and the two parents who were never really around much because they had busy jobs and stayed out late to 'work on their relationship'. Chiharu just thought they were being close.
In school she was popular among her friends, active in the sports community and didn't really take much too seriously. Life didn't really strike her until she turned seventeen, when she developed a heavy crush on her neighbor and childhood friend, Tamaki. Ever since she could remember, Tamaki had been there. Tamaki and Chiyoko, the two people in her life that she trusted most of all. She didn't even trust her parents to that extent, though she loved them just as much.
A devastating event - that led to a series of destructive affairs - unfolded in her eighteenth year. The local yakuza was in inner turmoil, making it easy to set certain things in motion. Chiharu got herself caught in a mall lockdown, along with a few people that she knew - among them a teacher that had apparently turned in the wrong direction - as well as her childhood friend.
It didn't take her too long until the happy-go-lucky attitude of the girl changed into a discouraged, dejected and downright spiritless shell of her former self. That was probably the reason why she didn't notice all the things that was happening around her. Why she didn't notice her friend, whom she had a crush on, being blackmailed. Why she didn't notice her twin going missing.
She still doesn't quite understand what went down behind her back, but when Tamaki suddenly told her they needed to leave town, she complied. What else could she do when her sister had been killed and some murderous woman had been threatening to kill her too? So they fled the country together, with new identities and new appearances. They were now Josephine and Lysander Hale, "siblings".
Tamaki was now the only person in her life that she could trust. She had left everything behind, her parents, her brother, her friends. Her sister's dead body. For a while they drifted from one place to another, then another and so on, until they finally reached Sepalum. The place they decided to settle down, start a new life, hopefully without traces.
