Maxine grew up in a small loving family, your standard family loving mom, working dad 2.5 kids...well no. Far from that. Maxine grew up a street rat, born and raised in the alleys and ghettos past. She didn't have any parents though her sister, Mona did a decent enough job raising the kid (at least she's alive). And to be honest, until the little 'incident' she thrived.
From an early age, Maxine learned the arts of the con. It seemed to be her second nature, really and hoo boy did she love it. It was a rush and so rewarding at that! Mona also did good to teach the girl magic, which ran quite thick through the sisters' blood and greatly aided their not-very-legal escapades.
It went on like this until Maxine grew into a young woman around her centennial and Mona got the hots for a traveling magician whom miraculously reciprocated her feelings and offered her to travel with him as an assistant. Mona quickly agreed and the two sisters said their good byes (as Maxine did not want to leave the profitable city to become a mere second wheel)
Well, it turns out Maxine's sister had some sense to her after all as throughout all her and her sister's years she managed to avoid the large crime-rink, something that (without Mona's guidance) was found to be an opportunity too good to let pass.
And so Maxine jumped into the society of the rinks and her con-artistry and magic went to entirely new heights. Why had Mona been so resilient against the gangs? They were parties, they were banks, they were wonderful! For the next two-hundred years or so, the girl played with this system, making connections, making enemies, taking care of enemies, partying, everything.
Well, it turns out some wizards aren't particularly fond of being conned. It turns out some wizards are very very against being conned and unfortunately for Maxine her latest victim was part of one of those categories. During a rather...intimate ploy, the girl had managed to snatch a ring from the wizard, a very pretty ring, a flat out gorgeous ring that just had to be worn.
It was cursed.
Yeuuup, turns out the wizard knew exactly what Maxine was planning and had managed to set rather enjoyable spell on the ring, personalized just for the party-girl herself. It did two things, first it sealed away the girl's powers, rendering her unable to fix the curse. Second, and more critical, it time-shifted and locked the witch to her twelve-year old body, a particularly cruel punishment, perhaps with a small, passive aggressive message to rethink her life thrown in there too.
ninety eight years have passedoccasionally she makes this a point and Maxine has made no attempt to 'rethink her life' no she adjusted, bitterly adjusted but adjusted none the less. She spent most of the years searching for a way to break the curse and recently made some headway in somewhat unlocking her powers. She can use them once more but, like her body, they are at the same skill-level they were at at age twelve. She's still working towards part two of the curse, hoping that once she fixes it she can use the new-found 'time lock' to lock her body at a more...appropriate age.
A pretty decent source has recently lead her to the small, horribly boring Sepalum peninsula where she has just arrived and is planning on leaving as soon as she gets exhausts the place for clues.

the first month or two after she adjusted to the change was actually quite pleasant as conwork became magnificently easier, but do you know how little freedom a twelve year old has? Do you know how painful it is to be in that horrible, restricting stage of life for 98 years? Do you know how many beautiful, wonderfully hot people she had to miss out on for ninety eight years? - She tries to keep her curse a secret because a) it's horribly embarrassing b) she can do it just fine by herself and c) who would even believe her yet alone wish to help her?
