Alright...so, plotting with Elena. First things first, here's a link to her profile, in case you want to take a look at it and read about her. The short version is that she's a blacksmith, and she came to town when she heard they needed a blacksmith. She's a bit on the quiet and aloof side.
Friends
Someone seeking anything beyond a casual acquaintanceship will have their work cut out for them, due to the fact that Elena is an awkward girl who has trouble opening up together. She never had any real friends growing up, so she's not entirely sure how to act when others appear interested in befriending her. As a result, she tends to unconsciously push others away, and being around too many people at once can be a bit overwhelming for the poor girl.
That said, she's still friendly to anyone, she meets (so long as they don't give her a reason not to be, and she genuinely does want to make friends...she's just a little awkward about it. If someone were patient and persistent enough, they might slowly be able to get Elena to drop her guard and, little by little, open up. It won't be easy, but it would be well worth the effort, as few would ever find themselves a more loyal friend.
Enemies
Unlike befriending and/or romancing her, making an enemy of Elena is a fairly simple and straightforward process. All one has to do is antagonize her or anyone she cares about in any way. Especially if it involves making fun of her being illiterate. In general, just acting like an asshole will be enough to make Elena not like a person.
Romance
Basically, take all of the complications mentioned in the 'Friends' section, and multiply them several-fold. That's pretty much what he have here. For one, Elena is a lesbian, and, therefore, only falls for other females. Of course, not everyone is cool with that, which is why she's hesitant to reveal her sexuality to others. Even another female tries to send her signals that they might be interested in her, she will (so instinctively that it borders on a defense mechanism) intentionally misinterpret it, making it to be something it isn't...even if she would love nothing more than to be with this person.
Needless to say, anyone interested in Elena will have to be patient, but aggressive at the same time. It will take some effort to convince her that it's okay to feel the way she does, and she's, for the most part, afraid of having her heart broken...should she end up in a relationship, only to have something happen to force them apart. Admittedly, it's not difficult to tell when she likes someone. More often than not, all a crush has to do is smile in her general direction, and her face turns a bright red. Additionally, she tends to go for women who are somewhat older than her...around 25, give or take.
Regardless, anyone who wishes to capture her heart will have their work cut out for them, but, should they succeed, she will make their efforts well worth the trouble...she'll probably be extremely awkward about it, but she'll be a loyal and loving partner nonetheless.
