Even though the life she had lead in the city had caused her more than enough grief, there was no way Elena would be able to shake it. As cliche as it sounded, it was in her blood now. Plus, the woman was able to justify it given the fact that she never stole for her own personal gain, it was always when someone else asked her to. Why they asked her to, well that was a question she never got to, best to stay out of the trouble with the law as much as she could. Speaking of the figures of authority, the young thief didn't know much about the law here, or lackthereof it seemed within the first few days she'd been here. Still, it never hurt to be cautious.
That was precisely the reason why she was still doubting whether or not it was a good reason to bring her...other tools into the blacksmith. She obviously couldn't trust a secret with a total stranger, unless the owner was the type of person who just looked away. One wrong move could send her packing off this island before she worked her first night at the bar. If all else failed, she just would bolt from the shop and bide her time before coming back. At least there was a plan in mind, that soothed her nerves a little. Before entering the shop though, Elena let out a sigh and tugged at the collar of her tee shirt. With her smiled turned on and her expression as open as it could be, the woman entered the smithy and called out, "Hello? I was hoping to inquire about some repairs!"

Once again Jake was blowing off work with taking a mid morning nap. He had his head down on the front desk, half asleep. This was the very same reason to which why he had gotten in trouble just yesterday. He was caught sleeping when he should have been babysitting his younger sister. Leaving the kid alone was not the smartest idea; he always found ways to get himself distracted. Whether it be taking a nap or just goofing off in general. He heard the door open; he didn’t think much of it however. He thought it may be his one of his siblings to check up on him. That is when he finally noticed that was not the voice of someone familiar, meaning he had to actually get some work done. Plus, the voice belonged to a female. Not someone he was comfortable speaking to. For now, the sixteen year old decided to man up and work with what the customer. The teen quickly sat up, trying to hide that fact that he was sleeping, accidentally knocking over the stool beneath him with his leg, causing him to fall on the ground. “Ow..” Jake said, getting up on his feet. He ignored the knocked over stool, talking to the customer was more important than some stupid stool.
“Hi… The blacksmith is out at the moment, but I’m his apprentice…” The sixteen year old did not know what to say next. This was actually his first time doing something like this alone. It took another minute or two before the kid thought of something to say. “Um…. What do you need help with, madam?” Anyone could tell that he was nervous. It was written all over his face. Why did his parents make him go into becoming the next blacksmith? It didn’t fit too well with the way the kid acted.

The apprentice, huh? That could easily give her an edge in the whole, keeping the whole thief thing on the down low. Or, she could be working with an inexperienced child who would simply run to his boss at the first sign of trouble. There was no harm in trying though, right? Elena walked up towards the counter and turned the wattage on her smile up a tad, she did have to be careful about how far she went with trying to convince the guy though, he looked a good deal younger than her. And by younger she meant not legal and then this how mess could be viewed as very creepy and more law breaking to add to her record.
"Oh, don't call me madam." she started off with, waving her hand in front of her face as if to wave the idea out of existence itself. "I'm Elena." the brunette introduced herself as she leaned on the counter. "And I was wondering about some possible tool repairs. I figure you guys do the basic equipment, hammers, axes...and so on." Elena narrowed her eyebrows slightly as she leaned in a bit closer and lowered her voice, almost as if she was telling the kid a secret, "I was wondering about repairs that would require a bit of...discretion." she chuckled a little as she added, "I mean they aren't exactly basic tools."

NOTES: Poor Jake
This wasn’t good. Not at all. As Elena got closer to the front counter, Jake wanted more than anything to run away. However, he knew he could not flee. Not now at least. His boss would kill him if he did. It was best time to get over his little fear of talking to the opposite gender. He would have to get over sometime. The sixteen year old could feel the nervousness keep building up more and more. Why did have to happen to him? He had to calm himself just a bit for him to introduction himself. He could at least tell her his name, right? It was only two small words that he would have to say. “I-I’m J-Jake…… N-nice to meet you, Elena.” It was only a couple more words than expected, but at least he was able to get them out. His heart raced as he saw Elena lean on the desk he was just napping on. The kid did a quick nod, taking a couple steps back. He couldn’t handle for much longer. He could feel himself wanting to pass out, yet somehow managed to stop himself. This was going to be a paying customer. Jake could afford to pass out now; he could lose his job if he did.
When she got even closer than before, the kid could feel his heart pounding in his chest as his face became a deep red. This was definably not good. This had to be the first time any girl, besides his sister and mother, that got this close to him. He didn’t even catch the last very things Elena had said. The only thing he was able to hear was his heart beating faster than normal. Soon Jake was on the ground, completely passed out. This was just too much excitement for him to handle. After all, even if he did not want to admit it, he was still just a kid. |

"It's nice to meet you Jake." Elena replied, flashing another smile. "Now, about those repairs?" she prompted once more before noticing the boy didn't look well at all. She narrowed her eyebrows in confusion and asked, "Hey...you feeling okay?" her answer was in his movements as he stepped back and stood there as he face turned a deep crimson color. Elena's eyes widened in surprised and she gasped when he hit the ground, suddenly out cold. Elena flew to the other side of the counter, who was she to care about rules, and knelt down beside Jake.
"Kid...hey, kid!" she shook his arm a little as she called to him and then resorting to give him a light slap on the cheek. "Oi! Jake, wake up!" Elena couldn't help but groan a little, she really hoped she hadn't managed to seriously injure someone on her first week in town. While he wasn't stirring or giving any signs of life, she leaned down and put her own face right up against his and somewhat shouted, "Kid, if you do not give me any indication you are alive within the next minute, I swear I will start giving you mouth to mouth." Yes, her bedside manner needed to be improved on.

NOTES: Jake's probably just going to freak out even more. XP
It did not seem like Jake would be waking up anytime soon. It was the nervousness and stock that made the kid faint. His heart couldn’t handle all the stress of what was happening. He usually spent all his time with his family, some friends, and working here and there. No time to be talking to any girls. He had to get over his fear one way or another. However, the kid was not willing to do that just yet. His brothers would tease him from time to time about his problem. Yet when he tried to get over his fear, he would end up passing out just like this time. He didn’t really understand it himself to the reason why he was like this way. The sixteen year old was still breathing as if he was sleeping instead of being unconscious. The same thing he had been caught doing over and over again. But this go around was not his fault. The kid couldn’t even handle speaking to the opposite gender much less even get into their personal space. He was just cursed with his small size and not being able to speak to girls.
Overall, Jake was just fine. He just could not help, but feel the way he did. This was the very same reason to which why the kid didn’t want to work here. This job involved talking to girls, which was obviously very hard for him to do. Even if it was a customer, he couldn’t help it no matter how hard he tried. At least this time around his boss or anybody else was here to witness it. Or he could hope that no one did. |

She waited the full minute, hoping he would open his eyes or at the very least give a slight groan. Instead, Elena herself found groaning as she pinched the bridge of her nose and gave a sigh. "You brought this on yourself kid." she mumbled and she pressed her own lips to Jake's. Obviously, Elena was not a trained professional, she knew how to dress her own minor wounds in a pinch but other than that she let the doctors handle the medical issues. As she sat there, the thought ran through her mind that perhaps this wasn't the best was to go about this. This first instinct with an unconscious person was to give them some form of CPR? Something seemed off.
Elena also really wasn't giving Jake true CPR, it was something more along the lines of a short kiss. She kept her lips on his for a few seconds before pulling away. The woman gave him another slight slap on the face before she rocked back on her heels and sighed once again. She took a look at her immediate surroundings to see if there was anything else that might be able to help her arouse him out of his sleep. Seeing a nearby bottle of water, Elena made a grab for it and proceeded to pour it over Jake's face and then waited. She wasn't exactly sure what step she would take next if those two measures hadn't worked.

His bright blue eyes began to open. He blinked a couple of time until he realized what had happened. He had fainted on the job. The very same reason why he told his boss that he should not be left alone. Jake quickly brought himself to a sitting position, finally noticing that his clothes were soaked. He looked rather lost and confused. “Why am I all wet?” The kid asked, getting up to his feet. He was still kind of dizzy. After all, the kid did manage to hit his head on the ground pretty hard when he passed out. But, it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. He had worse done to him. “Sorry for fainting randomly that like…” Jake blurted out followed by a bow. Once again the sixteen year old’s face began to red. He wasn’t sure what had came over him all of the sudden. Him passing out did not happen regularly. To be exact, it only had happen to him at least once or twice. Plus, he usually had his twin with him to back him up if anything like this were to happen.
“I…Um…” Jake trailed off not knowing what to say next. The nervousness was starting to come back little by little. Everything was a lot harder on his own. He just wished he would have stayed in bed today instead of going to work. Getting grounded was a lot better than feeling this way. That is when it hit him. He was working with a customer. She came here to the shop for a reason, right? “What did you need help with again?” The kid tried his best to keep himself calm. There was no time for his fear to bother him now. If he just focused on working, maybe nothing bad will happen. [/style] |

"Kid, do NOT make me kiss you again." Elena said loudly as he didn't stir for a few more moments, thankfully she wouldn't have to resort to it. She sighed in relief and crouched back down to his level, mind you not so close to his face this time, and looked at him as he slowly became aware of his surroundings. "Because I had to pour water on you to get you to wake up. The whole mouth to mouth idea didn't work too well, so I tried the next best thing." She certainly wasn't tactful about the whole issue, but she didn't see any point in beating around the bush. Elena shook her head at his apology, "Hey, it's not like you purposefully fainted...right?"
The woman stood back up and took a few steps away, figuring it would be best to give him as much space as possible at the moment. As she walked backwards she questioned, "Are you okay though? Do you need to go the doctor? Cause I can come back some other time, it's nothing pressing." Elena still couldn't decide if getting in touch with the owner of the shop about her tools would be a good idea or not. If they wouldn't do it or started asking too many questions, she'd be out of luck repair wise here, it wasn't like there was an overabundance of smithys around the island to choose from.

He did not need that image in his head. He was starting to feel very uneasy with that thought. He did his best to push away the unwanted thought. He had better things to focus on anyway. “No I didn’t do it on purpose….It just happened. I just can’t handle….” Jake trailed out once again, deciding whether or not to tell the truth. He knew he was probably better off without anyone else knowing that he had a hard time speaking or even being around girls. “Never mind. Forget about it.” He left it at that. He already had enough trouble with his family knowing his little fear of his. The kid didn’t need for non-family members to know as of yet. When the time comes he would tell someone. Even his fear of talking and being near the opposite gender was quite obvious when you got to actually know Jake. He was a completely different person when there was not a girl in sight. “Um….Could you please leave the whole passing out thing between us?” The kid asked. One thing for sure, he did not need any rumors around town about him going through the island. His family already had enough of those running around town.
Jake fell quiet, unsure of what to say. He was usually the type who would never shut up. This side of him was a rare sight. “I swear I’m fine. The same thing happened to me like twice in my life.” He did not sound very reassuring. His head still kind of hurt here and there. However the dizziness and nervousness was gone for now anyway. Plus, as long as the two kept their distances he would be fine. “Besides, I should at least help you. I did pass out on the job.” The last thing he wanted was to tell his boss the reason to which there was no work was because he fainted. [/style] |

Elena gave a slight smile and couldn't help but laugh, "No worries, I'm just glad your alive. Didn't need to be guilty of putting someone in a coma my first week here." That wouldn't be a good first impression at all. The woman leaned back the wall and stuffed her hands in her pockets as he requested the incident be kept quiet. She shook her head as another small smile fell in her lips, "Don't worry, I'm not going to go tell anyone." It honestly didn't look that great for her either if she caused the blacksmith's apprentice to faint with less than fifty words.
She pursed her lips and gave him a look at his next statement, but knew pressing the issue wasn't worth it. It would probably get him all worked up again and that didn't need to happen. Elena mulled over his words for a moment before shrugging and simply saying, "Maybe it's best if my question was left for another time." Like a quarter to never. "It's nothing to pressing, in fact," she flashed him another smile, "I've kind of forgotten about it!" Now that was completely untrue, but she'd wait for a while . Maybe even just not ask about keeping it quiet, just give the blacksmith the tools and not say anything. It's not like her set was that obvious. "I was mostly just wondering about what kind of repairs you guys do here. The blacksmith I went to in the city was a complete joke."

He had enough trouble with some other teenagers bullying him from time to time. If they ever found out that he couldn’t handle going around a girl much less talk with one, he would never hear the end of it. “Thanks a lot for not telling anyone.” He was not really sure why he was thanking her exactly. It just felt like the right thing to do at the time. The true Jake was starting to come out little by little. He was still kind of nervous, but not as bad as before. Although he did have to admit to himself, being in charge of the shop is a hard job. Not to mention quite overwhelming for such a lazy kid such as Jake. “Sorry. It was my fault you forgot.” Jake apologize once again. He felt as it was his fault. After all, he did pass out suddenly due to his fear. Sometimes the sixteen year old was just too nice for his own good. He always blamed himself when something happened even if he was not the cause. Overall, the kid had a lot of growing up to do.
That is when she asked about what kind of repairs they did in the shop. The kid’s hearts dropped. He didn’t know. He never paid any attention to what his boss said. He was always half-sleep or daydreaming. He had to think of some sort of answer. Jake was sure they did just about everything as long as it was fixable. “I think we do just about anything really.” He sounded very unsure of himself. The answer he had given was not exactly true, but he couldn’t remember why. Then it hit him. He could look at some of his boss’s paper work. “Um… wait a second.” The kid made his over to the his boss’s desk. Jake however was not paying much attention to where he was walking and tripped over the stool from before, landing face first on the ground. [/style] |

"Stop that." she said frowning a little, "Constantly apologizing will get you nowhere in life. Especially if you didn't do anything wrong." There was a line, at least in Elena's mind, between being polite and acknowledging your mistakes and simply being..well a wimp. She'd sort of sworn of apologizing a while ago; at the very least she'd given herself a sort of limit on how much she could apologize in a time period. It was kind of pointless to apologize to a person you were robbing anyway, it just made the situation at hand very awkward. Pursing her lips slightly she just shook her head, "It wasn't important, or I wouldn't have forgotten it so easily."
She watched with a renewed interest as he made his way over to a desk covered in paperwork. The woman assumed it was his bosses desk filled with orders and other billing information. Elena also watched and winced as the boy tripped over a stool and landed on the ground. "Is falling just a natural thing with you, kid?"

LYRICS:Linkin Park: Skin to Bone WORDS:220
NOTES: --
Jake managed to pull himself off the ground to his feet and bushed himself off. He should have paid more attention to his surroundings, yet he was an idiot who never thought about the consequences of his actions. “Yeah… It kind of happens all the time.” The kid said, rubbing his nose. For some reason it still kind of hurt from the fall. Lucky for him the fall did not cause him to have a nose bleed. The sixteen year old sighed, picking up the knock over stool. Why was he so clumsy? No matter what, he always found some way to hurt himself in every situation. “Um… What was I doing again?” He tilted his head to the side. Jake gave a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. How could have he already forgotten? Was he really that much of an idiot? It was a wonder that he even made this far in life with the way he was. The kid tried his best to at least remember, but had no such luck.
“Why does this keep happening?” The sixteen year old thought out loud. He took a sit on the stool he just tripped over a few minutes ago. He was just so brainless sometimes. Jake let out another sigh, giving up trying to remember. There was no point to now. |

She'd couldn't help but smile a little as the kid lamented. "There are much worse things that could happen, believe me." Like having compromising pictures stolen, or finding out some job was a set up, or being chased out of the city by a man who threatened to kill you if he didn't get what was his. An even worse scenario being he never got it back, and just didn't know it yet. It wasn't like she was speaking from personal experience or anything. None at all.
Elena figured it would be best to leave the apprentice to gather his thoughts, and not embarrass him further. She pushed off the wall and made her way to the front of the counter where she was technically supposed to be. "Tell you what kid, my question can wait." the woman stuffed her hands in her pockets and gave him a half smile. "I've got some other stuff that needs checking anyways, so I'll come back sometime later and you can impress me with your knowledge of the smithy." With a little wave over her shoulder as she turned, Elena left the blacksmith and went out into the spring day.
