HISTORY Skylar was born without a voice. He's completely mute, unable to make any sounds because his vocal cords never developed. He cannot sing, scream, or gasp. Growing up, he was socially isolated for the most part because of it. It wasn't because the other children were particularly mean to him in any way; it was simply because after years of trying to get his ideas across, the other children either grew impatient with the guessing games or Skylar felt as if it was not worth the effort. His personality throughout his childhood shifted from being a happy, friendly kid to be coming more cautious and soft-spoken. Thoughts run rampant in his head because he can't express them out loud effectively enough, which is why he decided it would be best to leave his home when he wasn't even an adult. His father and mother weren't too patient with him either. Growing up in a household with three other siblings (all which could talk) gave him the "invisible" status without contest. Even though they were his blood, Skylar could not say in good coincidence that he cared more about them than others in general. He would still help them with their troubles and favors, but it was no different than if the requests came from neighbors; they were simply too busy to ever give him more attention than what was necessary. Skylar had heard of a place not too far off where humans were starting to settle. He had managed to catch glimpses of humans before when they were on boats, but never had he directly interacted with one. He hoped that their society would be more forgiving to his vocal shortcomings and more patient with his lack of communication. Before making any attempt to walk among them, Skylar spent a solid month observing their activities from the sea. He noticed their curiosity and love strange objects (strange by their standards, as most were just things he could easily find in the ocean). Their demand gave him an occupation selling trinkets such as coral or odd seashells to the villagers.
