No matter what Jake did he could not think of the answer. He should have paid more attention to what his boss was saying instead of dashing off like always. Was this really the place or was he just lost again? Maybe it was not the best idea to get directions from an old lady. Even though he should know his way around the island, but he did not. it would have been a lot easier if he just listened more rather than run out the door like he did. You couldn’t really blame him. The sixteen year old was just too excited that he was allowed to actually leave work. Jake being able to leave meant that he is more trusted than he thought. That is what his parents always told him, but the idiot never listened. The kid sighed, looking around. This had to be the place, right? Was he early or just gotten himself lost for the millionth time? It wouldn’t be much of a surprise. He always found a way to get himself lost even though he grew on the island. Unlike much of the other kids, Jake never paid attention to much of anything unless it meant having fun and goofing off.
A few minutes passed, making the kid to begin doubting himself. I should probably go back. He was not so keen on that idea. He didn’t not want to get yelled at for being an idiot yet again today. He had gotten enough of that at home. For now, Jake decided it was best to stay put. Besides, in the meantime he could sneak in a quick nap in. [/style] |

WHY ME? There were very few things that could actually ruin Eric's day. The first was seafood. He despised seafood with all his heart, body, and soul. He didn't have anything against fish, unless they were being thrust into his face. If someone had asked him what was so bad about eating a fish, all he'd be able to tell them was that he didn't like the way they felt while alive, why would their slimey dead carcass be any more delectable? The second would be losing. It really didn't matter at what, if he lost at something, his whole day would have been ruined in the blink of an eye and his pride wouldn't allow him to focus on anything else until the next holding of whatever competition it was he had lost. The final thing was--
"Get back here you little thief!"
The scene to just anyone looking would have perhaps been an odd one. A man can tearing through the forest, hot on the tail of the perpetrator. A furry streak of gray shot across the dirt floor. Purple hair streamed behind him as he dodged past a branch that had been level with his head. How had things gotten like this? It was a good question. One moment he'd been opening the door to his house when suddenly he saw his loyal companion shoot past him. What was he holding?
"Oh god no..." The words had escaped him as he watched the tail of his canine friend start wagging slowly, taunting him. Within the dog's mouth was one of his underwear. What was it doing in a place the dog could get at? That was the thing. It wasn't. It had been in a hamper with a lid on it and everything... unless... That mangy mutt had knocked it over and spilled all the dirty clothes onto the floor! "Maxwell! Come here!" He ordered, snapping his fingers and pointing to the ground at his feet. At the sound, the dog took off running in the opposite direction! And thus, after several unkind words and failed attempts at throwing shoes at the dog as it bounded happily just outside Eric's reach, they had come to this juncture of racing through the forest. Eric grunted, pushing through brush to find Maxwell sitting on the forest floor, scratching his neck with his back paw. The underwear was laying on the dirty gross dirt-- but Eric wasn't thinking of that when he saw the scene. He ducked down quickly, hoping the little terror hadn't seen him. Quiet. Yes, that's right, he had to be quiet. He was a hunter. He was the stalker coming in on his prey. He was-- well, there was one thing he didn't know. To his future dismay, he wasn't the only one in the forest. | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:100px; background-color:#f1f1f1, bTable] | made by rustyfox ★ of btn |

The raven haired maiden sang to herself, walking slowly down the trail leading into the woods that she called home. Taking on the duty of being the Shrine Maiden was not how Akiza planned to live out her life. And living in the forest was definitely not her preference of location. But eh, what are you going to do right? A job's a job. And it's not like she didn't visit the town anyway. Ducking under a few low branches she continue walking deeper into the woods, singing the next verse of the nursery rhyme. "If you go down to the woods today, you better go in disguise." Leaping over the large root of a tree, she paused in her tracks as the sounds of foot steps and voices could be heard coming from deeper in the woods. Could today be the day Akiza got to help out a lost soul?
Following the sounds of the foot steps and seemingly angered-- er, annoyed voice rather. She kept a safe distance between herself the other individuals that were present. It seemed as though they were heading towards her shrine anyway. Which was a plus. "Hehe, it seems as though I'll be getting some business today." She thought to herself as she turned and began walking down another trail that led to the shrine. Picking up where she left off on her song. Singing louder than before, hoping to attract the wanderers. Whoever they may be. "For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain because, today's the day the teddy bear's have their picnic."
Hoping she had baited her prey, Akiza made it to the shrine. Eying it as it stood in the middle of a pond, she looked to her left, then her right, and began to walk across the pond to the statue. Perching on the feet of the statue as she waited for whom ever had entered the forest to arrive. "Hm, I wonder if they're lost.." She thought aloud, taking one of her long braided strands of hair and twirling it between her fingers as she waited. "Maybe it's another magic user? Hm, or maybe a muscular farmer.."

He was lost. Maybe it was not the best idea to go deeper in the forest. There could be bears out and about. If he did not show up back at the shop in an hour or so will he would surely get yelled at. More or less probably get fired. Why was he cursed with always finding a way to get lost? Jake sighed, looking around to hopefully find something that look familiar. He had no luck. Everything looked the same. It was just trees and more trees everywhere he looked. “Just great. I’m lost” The sixteen year old grumbled to himself. Maybe if he went back from the way he came, he would be town again. He doubted that plan would even work out. Nothing ever did. For now, the kid just deciding to keep wondering around. After all, he was bound to bump into someone. Or at least he could hope so. He didn’t not want to get lost in the woods for a week like when he was a child. He certainly did not want to go through at again anytime soon.
The kid continued to wondering aimlessly around the forest, hoping he would run into someone. He defiantly would need help out of this mess he out himself in. He was not paying attention where he was going exactly. Eventually, Jake tripped over a log. Luckily, he was able to catch himself before hitting that ground. That is when he finally caught sight of another person…. And a dog? He could not tell what was going on, but he decided it would probably be best if the other person noticed him first. He did not want to risk it. [/style] |

SLOOOOOOOOWLY... Eaaaaaaasy does it. Eric picked up his courage and moved softly past the brush with a little bit of a rustle. Max didn't seem to mind him as it bit playfully at a butterfly that was dancing about its head. Good, the target hadn't been aware of his presence! He stepped over a fallen log that'd been in his way.
"Gotcha now you little--!" He mumbled to himself, his form towering over the mutt who'd been completely unaware of his presence to this point. It was at that time he heard a small 'oof' from behind him, breaking his concentration. Perhaps more surprised than the dog had been, he spun around so fast that his hair danced at the sudden movement. "What the--?" He blinked his violet orbs, registering the form of the boy laying face down on the ground. His first thought was what a boy was doing this far out in the forest. The second had been whether or not he'd seen the underwear in the dog's mouth. He looked back to where the dog had been a moment before, leading to the last thought that traveled through his mind.
"Damn-- where did that blasted dog run off to now?"
The question didn't have enough time to linger before he opened his eyes again and turned back to the boy who had crashed in on his capture attempt on Max. The spiky hair defied gravity and his blue eyes seemed to emanate his confusion. From the looks of it, the boy had tripped over the log Eric'd stepped over just a few moments before. Wait-- had that kid been following him?
"Tch. Kid, you couldn't have picked a worse time to drop in." He sighed. He'd stay silent for a moment before turning off in a direction and walking. "Come on, it couldn't have gotten too far." He turned his head to gaze at him sidelong, his eyes narrowing a bit.
"Since you ruined my attempt of catching max, you're gonna help me catch him. Take some responsibility for your actions!" He chided back at the boy as he flipped a hand to swat a bug that'd been buzzing by his head. He'd heard a sound coming from that direction-- whether it was Max or not was another story. The dog couldn't have gotten too far-- in fact, he hadn't walked thirty more seconds before he came to a clearing in the trees. There, he found Max and-- someone else. A girl? Weird. Had everyone decided today would be a good day to take a stroll in the forest. And what was between them both?
Underwear.
HIS underwear.
Goddess.

The maiden grew tired of waiting. It seemed as though her little melody was not enough to lure her guests to the clearing. With a sigh, Akiza let go of her hair and stood up from her perched state. Walking back across the lake, she touched back on the grass and threw her arms into the air, stretching. "Maybe they're lost and need assistance?" She pondered aloud, hoping that whoever the individuals were, were okay at least. Akiza would hate for one of them to have gotten injured while in the woods.
With a nod, she had decided she would go and find the wanderers herself. Taking a step forward, her eyes widened as a blurry streak darted out of the woods, aiming directly at her. Blinking a few times and focusing her sight on the small animal, she deduced it was someone's pet dog. That means someone was here! Oh joy! Kneeling down to the small animal, she began to lightly run her hand across it's fur, smiling as she did so. "Aren't you a sweetheart-- Oh? What's this?"
Noticing something trapped between the dogs teeth, Akiza slowly took it from him and held it in her hands. Eying the cloth closely, it didn't occur to her what it was due to the mud and excess dirt it was covered in. Patting as much dirt off of it as she could, once the garment became recognizable, Akiza couldn't help but chuckle. "Tehee, did you steal someone's underwear?" She asked turning to the dog with a smile on her face. As soon as her question was asked, two males appeared from the trail leading from the woods. Eying them, there stood one taller male with long violet hair and eyes. By his clothing, Akiza assumed he was maybe a farmer or rancher. Then there stood behind him a smaller boy, his brown spiky hair stood up a top of his head in a messy way and his eyes were of a blue color. From his outfit, she couldn't assume his occupation. Shooting them a warm smile, she cleared her voice and spoke. "Welcome." Her voice in an elegant tone.

He should have just stayed in front of the forest instead of going in it. He wished he just stayed in bed all day although that would have anger his parents for doing so. He didn’t care getting grounded was a lot easier than being lost in some woods. The kid got back up to his feet and bushed himself off. That couldn’t have been the worse time for him to fall over a log. “Sorry. I should have been paying more attention to where I was going…” He trailed off, not knowing what to say. He was certain it was best to keep his mouth shut for now. He did not want to cause any more trouble than he already has. Normally, he would never shut up, but for such a stupid kid he knew when to keep it quiet. However, knowing him he would be able to keep it up for long. He was not sure of what to do, but he figured he should at least help this guy out. After all, the dog got away because of him being careless. The kid always did find a way to get himself in some sort of trouble.
Jake quietly followed Eric, trying to come up with an excuse for returning to work late. Sadly he couldn’t. He had used just about every excuse to get out of work. This would mean he would have to regain his boss’s trust once again. It was not long until they came to a clearing. The kid was rather surprised that there was such a place here. It would have been helpfully to know that a couple years old. That is when Jake finally noticed the girl. Why was she out here? And why did it have to be a girl? The thing he had trouble being around much less talk. He would have to play it cool for now. If things got bad, he could always find his way back to town on his own. [/style] |

WELCOME..? The word was more than familiar to him. He knew what it meant, but the context eluded him. It sounded more like she'd been expecting them than a surprised greeting. Well, there hadn't been any way she couldn't have known they were coming, what with the dog carrying such an unusual-- package. Eric felt his face heat up a little as he turned his head to the side, his thumbs being thrust into the pockets of his pants. He'd never been one for conversation, but it seemed that he was getting into more and more spots where conversation was being demanded of him. Great.
"Umm... Hey." He spoke, his words a little uncertain. He just stood there for a moment, the silence taking over if it was allowed. "So-- my dog." He mumbled, his face visibly showing a little bit of color as he spoke. "He's probably bothering you. Max can be such an attention hog." As he spoke, he snapped his fingers and jerked his head as though inviting the dog to come to him. The dog's ears perked and it wagged its tail happily as it trotted over with the garment in its mouth, proudly showing off its prize.
"Thanks for nothing you stupid mutt." He whispered, petting the purple and white fur surrounding its neck. Max didn't seem to mind the name-calling and instead cuddled into Eric's touch. A small smile touched Eric's mouth as his hands trailed around to pluck the clothing article from Max's mouth. "So," He started, casting his gaze about the area.
"what exactly is this place?" He'd never been this far out into the woods before. Who knew that this place was just a hop skip and a jump from his ranch? It seemed well concealed from the rest of the city, not to mention there was an air of tranquility that was untouched by the hassle of everyday living. Though, he was more or less lost... not that he'd admit it. | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:100px; background-color:#f1f1f1, bTable] | made by rustyfox ★ of btn |

It was nice to see people interacting well with animals. It warmed her to her heart and gave her hope for the future. After he had his small chat with the animal, she looked to him as he began to inquire about the goddess statue and the small area she called home, for now anyway. Clearing her throat she began to speak. "He was not a bother at all," she started with a small grin. "It's nice to receive company. From animals and or humans."
Taking a few steps closer to the two males, she decided she'd answer his question. It wasn't everyday you find a woman standing in the middle of a clearing like this, so she would answer them in a way that wouldn't scare them away. Hopefully. "This, is the Goddess Shrine." She began turning around after she was a few inches away from the two males to point at the large statue protruding from small body of water. "And I am the shrine maiden, Akiza Fujisaki. Pleasure to meet you." After introducing herself, she began to examine the boys up closer. The two of them didn't seem like annoying individuals. Or people who had bad intentions by any means. Maybe they had questions on their minds she could answer? Give them a charm or two?
"What are your names?" She inquired, turning back around to face the taller male before darting her eyes at the smaller one for a moment. Her arms folding across her chest and a small smile on her face as she spoke. Hopefully these two would be interesting and occupy her for a while. Akiza was not about to let them escape so quickly.

He was trying to figure out how he would miss such a place. As a younger kid, he would always play in the woods with his bothers. The kid just decided to leave that question unanswered for now. “Was this shrine always here?” He asked, breaking his planned to keep quiet. They were lucky he only asked one question and actually shut up. Normally, he would keep going on. But, there was a reason for his silence. Nervousness overflowed Jake to the point where he was a little red in the face. He did whatever he could do to make it stop, but had no such luck. “Um… can someone point me in the direction back to town? I really need to go back to work.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck. Even though he would rather stay here, he knew working was important than anything else. Plus, he did not want to risk getting his boss mad at him ever again.
He was quiet for another minute or two until he realized that he didn’t introduce himself yet. Why was he so forgetful today? “I’m Jake Cartney. The blacksmith’s apprentice. Nice to meet you!” The kid blurted out. He sighed to himself, thinking he had better get back to work. He would most likely get yelled at again for not bring back the item. But, he could not remember what it was to save his life. [/style] |

WELL, THAT WAS NEW. He'd never seen a shrine before. Having come from a region where religion wasn't such a pressed upon issue, he'd grown up rather oblivious to the different views of the world. He'd heard of the Goddess, of course, but he'd always thought of such a tale as a myth. How people could actually believe in that rubbish was beyond him, but hey, to each their own. If they wanted to wallow in their own delusions, he wasn't about to stop them.
"A shrine?" He muttered to himself, he turned his head to look at the wooden structure in the shape of a house, the worn word 'fertility' inscribed on the wooden face just above the alter where he could only assume people had once put tributes to the goddess. "Looks like it's been here for quite a while." He observed, stuffing the underwear into a pocket discreetly. Max had taken interest in the shrine himself and began investigating the ground around it, sniffing at the wood and sitting in front of the shrine as though expecting something to happen if it looked at the construct hard enough. Eric didn't share the animal's expectation as he turned his attention to the boy who now seemed rather worried.
Eric didn't say anything to the question. Speaking would admit to being lost himself, and that was something he wasn't so keen on doing. The silence stretched on before the kid introduced himself as Jake. Max's ears twitched as the boy gave his name, but its eyes stayed trained on the shrine, its attention enraptured by something. "Eric." He muttered, refusing to expand on the word. Rather, there wasn't much more to say. Eric wasn't the name of either of the other two, he'd already called his dog 'Max' so by simple deduction it had to be his own.
"What's a shrine doing out in the middle of nowhere?" Eric blurted, the thought running from his tongue before it could be filtered. "You'd think that a place like this would be more accessible to the general public rather than in the middle of the woods where no one can find it." | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width:100px; background-color:#f1f1f1, bTable] | made by rustyfox ★ of btn |

She asked, pouting as she did so, turning to male who revealed his name to be Jake. "You just arrived." She added shooting a smile and wink at him before turning her attention back to the taller male who also revealed his name to be Eric. Listening as the two spoke, she waited until they were done to begin answering their questions and comments. Maybe she could entice them to stay a little longer if she engaged them in conversation.
"This shrine is magical. It appeared when it was needed." Akiza began, in reply to Jake's question about it always being here. "You two may not be aware of this, but, the faith and belief of the harvest goddess is dwindling here." She continued explaining, walking over to the small dog and kneeling next to him. "And I have taken on the duty of reviving her spirit in the villagers." Finishing her short explanation, Akiza lightly began to pet and rub Max. Running her nails lightly against the fur on his back.
"True. You would think a shrine dedicated to the goddess would be located out in the open, for everyone to see.." She paused in the middle of her thought and stood up turning back to the two males and shooting them a warm smile and giggle. "But this statue draws strangers into the woods. More magical that way huh?" She began, pointing to Max. "Do you think your dog was going to run away to a crowded area?" She asked, resting her chin on her hand. Letting her smile continue to sit on her face. "Work huh? What if I told you Jake, that I could give you something that would make your worries of being scolded, vanish?" She inquired, walking to the entrance of the wooden structure. "Would you take it?" Her crisp golden pupils focusing on the small spiky haired male as she uttered her last words with a smirk on her face.

Sure, Jake believed in the whole magic thing. He was still a kid at heart even if he didn’t want to admit it. As a child, his mother would teach the twins about the Harvest Goddess. Although for the past years, he had not thought about the Goddess much. He was busy with work and family. “So not that many people come here, do they?” The sixteen year old asked. If it only appeared when it is needed, then why now? The only thing the kid needed was to get back to work. He liked the way his life was heading as of late. Or maybe it was to make him start thinking about the Goddess again? Or was it that the Goddess wanted Jake to make people start believing in her again? Just thinking about it made the kid’s head hurt. For now, he decided to just leave it at that. This was not the time for him to get distracted over something that couldn’t be helped.
The kid fell quite, lost in his own thoughts. He still needed to find a way back to town. He wasn’t even allowed in the woods alone with what happened last time. He just needed to keep that a secret from his parents. That is when Akiza brought her attention to Jake. “I’m fine with getting yelled at! It keeps me in line!” Jake said. His face all flustered. He knew he could not flee. That would only cause him get himself even more lost than now. So, the next best thing was to hide. The kid tried to hide himself behind Eric. At times like these, he was happy with his small size. |
