Rowan Lawrence
24 • male • teacher • townsperson
personality
positive
negative
- Hard-Working : When he sets about a task, Rowan almost always sees it through to the end. (Tied to his obsessive personality.)
- Humble : Rowan takes no pride in talking about anything he accomplishes, and would much prefer to discuss those of the people around him.
- Observant : While at first he appears to be aloof and oblivious, Rowan actually pays a great deal of mind to those around him. To an extreme degree, at times, he spends time watching and noting various personality/physical traits of those around him. This has led him to be misunderstood as odd on more than one occasion.
- Open-Minded : To have no qualms with anyone is a trait Rowan holds dear. He doesn’t judge others, and prefers to hold respect for everyone as equals.
- Intelligent (selectively) : Rowan is no fool when it comes to science, but is pretty lacking in even the basics of what it takes to live in a ranch-oriented community.
negative
- Shy : Rowan’s lifelong obsession with pursuing studies has left him lacking in social skills. As such, he is rather shy and particularly bad at conversing with others on a casual level.
- Persistent (read: obsessive) : When Rowan becomes obsessed with something, he is pert-near impossible to deter.
- Dishonest : This is the most fore-front negative personality trait Rowan has. He is unable to tell the truth when it comes to certain things. These mostly include discussions of his future plans (to have a child and get married). He always responds by brushing it off.
- Impulsive : This is yet another trait that sets Rowan up as an odd-ball. He is prone to do things on emotional whim. (This might explain his sudden move to Primula.)
- Clumsy : Since he has no knowledge of how to live in a ranch-oriented community, he is prone to messing up and making a mess of things that would seem to others a simple task.
history
Due to the early demise of his father, Rowan grew up almost entirely in a two-person house-hold. According to him, he doesn’t even remember what his father looks like. His mother, however, was incredibly close to him throughout his childhood and he grew to hold a great deal of respect for her ability to maintain a happy household.
His mother worked as a school teacher in a small town far to the north of Sepalum. There she focused on teaching aspects such as culture and history and emphasized the importance of growing to understand the world around them in a way that recognizes the perspectives of others. As such, she promoted the growth of bonds between her students. Rowan, while fond of the idealism, was not particularly interested in history. Instead he turned his focus to a more ground-in field. He studied science. Specifically, physical sciences. From early on in his life, he began to recognize this as a passion of his. From questioning the world around him (i.e. ‘What causes that apple to fall from that tree?’) to testing various ‘theories’ (merely the ideas of a child at the time) of his, he began to become increasingly proficient in the field.
His focus became intensified as he began to get older. He lacked a large amount of friends and began to diverge from his mother’s teachings about the perspectives of others. Instead, he began to see the world only through one lens, his. He studied nightly, disregarding all other activities in order to pursue his interest. This carried on up and through his university-level education. He was accepted to work as an assistant professor in physics at a university known far-and-wide throughout the land. Without hesitation, he declined. As before, he was more concerned with pursuing his own interests. This meant only focusing on his own research…
However, this all came to a screeching halt one day. This, the 3rd day of Fall, was the day his mother passed away. All her lectures and kindnesses flooded back to him. He spent many-a-days thinking to himself: about his mother’s words, about what he had spent his life doing and about what he wanted to do in the future. He had disregarded the growth of bonds… He had ignored those around him in order to focus on himself… He had been selfish and foolish. This was what led to his decision to leave it all behind. His past, his research… all of it. This was when he heard of Primula, far to the south. A town not unlike the small town he grew up in. It was a place where townsfolk could know each other by name. It was perfect: a place to shake off the dust he had let settle in his heart, a place to finally put his life into motion…
