the hayride Ah, what a lovely time for the harvest festival! Some years the festival had been rainy, and even though everyone had trucked on, it was still more fun when the weather was nice. Thankfully for the little town, the sun was shining and the breeze was warm and sweet, the damp smell of autumn lingering in the air. Mayor Unia would adamantly say it was his favorite season, but he said that every season, after all.
The mayor was standing outside of town near the Narcissus Ranch, preparing for the first event of the festival. There was a fun hayride planned, and the man was sure both the children and adults of the peninsula would enjoy it. Mr. Narcissus had generously agreed to drive the hayride, as well as use his wagon, his horses and countless bales of hay. It was really a good display of Primulian generosity!
As Mr. Narcissus was harnessing up the horses, Mayor Unia turned to see the first few people arriving. “Hello, hello, welcome!” he cried out excitedly, a grin on his friendly face. “Welcome to the hayride! Thank you for coming. Mr. Narcissus can take about fifteen people at a time, so if we must have multiple rides, we must!” Mr. Narcissus looked a little miffed at that (apparently something he didn’t agree to) but sat on the wagon, reins in hand, waiting for the people to board and nestle themselves into the hay.

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
A slow shiver crept upwards, born from the small of his back and rising along his spine. The slight breeze in the air had quite an effect on the male's body; sure, sometimes it had been cold while he'd been out and about in his short time here. But the wind was still relatively new and fascinating to him. There wasn't anything really like it in the water, but he'd felt it on his face before. But more importantly, today...
He was feeling wind on and between his legs. The male, a bit strangely, quite liked the freedom that he felt. Walking, albeit incredibly unsteadily, was an easier mode of transportation than dragging his tail fin everywhere. He hadn't quite mastered walking yet; occasionally grabbing onto nearby people and things for balance was a must at this point. The dirt was very, very soft too. Not gritty like sand, but it yielded underneath his feet and he'd sink a centimetre or so with every unsteady footstep. Even the sounds it made was amusing to hear. Schlurp, schlop, schlip.
Ah, but what was the purpose of his walking today? Why, the usual; he was exploring his new surroundings, and something very important and large was going on it seemed. According to one of the humans, this was a 'hayride'. And so many of them had turned out ( NPC ones at least ok ), surely this must be some kind of life changing experience. It was time to kill two birds with one stone; see more humans AND find out what was the whole deal with this 'hayride' thing. The life of an explorer, reporting.
In front of him stood the wagon. The merman stood next to one of it's sides, pondering. How were you supposed to get in? It was very high up, and he knew some humans were definitely shorter than him in stature. Well, whatever. He'd find his own way in. A pair of muscular arms reached out and grasped the edge of the wagon, and with a swift jerk, his feet were no longer attached to the soft earth. His body swung and slammed into the wagon, forcing a hiss of pain from his lips but with another pull he awkwardly flopped into the wagon, taking a faceful of hay but...! Eddy was in. The hay was itchy, threatening to cover him and a dull throb came from his left shin, but mission accomplished. He was in the wagon. As the male slowly pulled himself to his feet, coming to an unsteady stand, only one thought was in his mind.
< What now? > Yes, what now. What was going to happen next? The breeze picked up again, as if it were trying to clean off the bits of hay stuck to his skin and present him as best it could. A pair of soft green eyes scanned about, looking at the townspeople present... and he began to smile and wave at them. People were okay in his book, maybe they thought he was okay too.
And the wind still felt rather pleasant between his bare legs.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,bTable][atrb=style, width:360px; padding:5px; background-color:#eee;] all my dead friends look a lot like you | [atrb=style, background-color:#333; max-width:360px; ] The woman smiled as she tucked back a stray yellow lock behind her ear. The temperature was starting to drop, much to her pleasure. She really preferred the cold over the heat. It just seemed more natural to her. Besides, elegance was easy to attain when she could throw on a fur lined coat and a cute pair of boots. But Showing off her personal style hadn’t been the reason she had ventured out today, taking a much needed break from managing her shop. Well, it wasn’t the main reason. Primula was a wonderfully quaint town that had its own magical traditions and as a new resident, she planned on assimilating and adopting such traditions. The newest she was discovering today was of the Harvest Festival. The woman had pestered her nephew to come with her on this wonderful thing they referred to as a ‘hayride’. People usually took limousines instead of hayrides in her old neighborhood. Whatever the case, it was sure to be an experience!
“Orville will be sorry his bothered staying in for this.” She said with a triumphant smile, even though she hadn’t really done much but arrive just in time to mill around with other residents. The heiress smiled happily, beaming at everyone she knew and greeting those she didn’t. Suddenly the Mayor’s welcome rang out and she perked up to pay attention. Ooh, how exciting~! The thing she had come to do was starting! She looked over at the wagon, her face clouding with confusion before looking around at the crowd. “Literally, a hayride.” She said to herself hoping she hadn’t seemed so surprised to others. Honestly, what else could it have been? Sasha didn’t know. Determined to get on the first ride out, as childish as that may have seemed, the florist fast walked over to the wagon ready to get in. Her smile faltered for a moment noting the height before she shook her head and decided to press on. She was a rancher now! She could climb up a dumb wagon! Silently, she thanked her nephew for finding her leather gloves before setting to work.
It wasn’t long before Sasha managed, by herself, to gain a good foothold on the edge and pull herself up. However, she tumbled rather ungracefully into the hay with a soft grunt. She felt her body grow warm, vaguely aware that there had already been another person in the wagon. She righted herself, looking up at the brunette and regaining her composure. She got comfortable pulling off her jacket and placing it on her legs. “How do you do?” she asked, offering a small smile and stretching out her hand. She hadn’t seen the man around before in town. Was he a new resident? She paused noting an immediate lack of clothing. “Aren’t you cold?” she asked unable to keep her eyes from trailing downward before- oh. No. NO, NOT OH. Sasha clamped her hands against her mouth muffling a scream, blood rushing up to her pale cheeks and ears at the sight of something she shouldn’t have seen. How- HOW INDECENT! She moved her hands to her eyes trying to unsee Meredith’s legs. “For God’s sake cover yourself!” Sasha yelled one hand over her eyes the other roughly throwing her jacket at the naked man before her.

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
My my. The merman peered down at the blonde woman who had joined him in this wagon, the rest of the town out of sight and out of mind now. She actually noticed him and, very interestingly, was quite a well mannered and cultured human. Certainly one his mother would approve of, no doubt. He would attempt to try and display his pitiful years of sleeping through etiquette classes, just for her. "Ahem." A clenched fist came to his mouth as he cleared his throat and closed his eyes, not realizing the rising state of panic Sasha was getting herself into. "Good day, miss, I am Meredith; eldest son of Nereus and Rhode." God it sounded so forced coming from his lips, he hated proper etiquette. He felt like an merman several hundred years his senior when he tried. A strange, soft thing thwapped him across the face, but by god he was determined. "A pleasure to make-" He decided to check on why, she was screaming. Any excuse to drop manners like a dead animal anyways.
As the warmth of the jacket was replaced by the chill of the sweet autumn air, he blinked at his newfound aquaintance, holding up the jacket. For God's sake, he needed to cover himself. Was she talking about the Destruction God though? The thought of a well mannered destructionist lady pulled the edges of his mouth upwards into a smile. Very well, he would cover himself. This was his time to shine, oh yes. He'd seen these before, and how people would put them on when it rained. The male slowly slid one limb into a hole, and then the other, keeping his green hues on the woman. She had to watch him cover himself- oh. Her hands were over her eyes. Oh well, she could view the results! He pulled the jacket tighter around him, and once he was satisfied, he scooted closer to Sasha and gently tried to pull her hand away from her face. "Did I do it right? Is your God sated now?" His voice was quiet and gentle, accompanying a small smile, to keep her from having another fit because who knows what would happen. Maybe the wagon would get angry at her, and that was not something he was down with.
If she opened her eyes and let him pull her hand back, she'd see that he had the jacket neatly around his arms, fur trim brushing against his cheek and neck. How very styling he was now. Except he was still naked as a bird below his waist, gasp.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,bTable][atrb=style, width:360px; padding:5px; background-color:#eee;] all my dead friends look a lot like you | [atrb=style, background-color:#333; max-width:360px; ] She was rather proud that despite her ungraceful boarding of the hayride, she’d managed to retain some sort of dignity. The man had figured out she was, indeed, a lady.¬ However that pride was pushed aside as she focused on her current, terribly, TERRIBLE situation. Of course any other young woman would have been delighted to see such a handsome young man, Sasha despised it. She had seen something that could have even possible ruined her for marriage! “No, calm yourself Sasha…” she murmured before the darkness of her manicured hands. She was still perfectly acceptable to be married if she chose to do so. How could she have known the man had been stark naked in public?! It was, quite frankly, out of her hands. Yes, she was fine. She was perfectly fine. Still, this was one incident she would be keeping to herself. And also her nephew who she would make sure kept an eye out for this- this pervert!
Yes…This pervert who so vulgarly exposed himself to her! He had humiliated her, and he would pay dearly for staining her precious honor. Embarrassment made way for indignation and the blond e cowered behind her hands. Angry or not she was still much too modest to change another look at Meredith. She vaguely made out his stiff introduction, criticizing it silently. Something was very off. The brunette didn’t see very comfortable with the part he was playing, as she had determined him to be a liar of some sort. She would not let herself be taken advantage of. Sasha steeled herself for her next mood. As righteous as her fury was, it was absolutely necessary to stayed poised so as to not appear to the entire town that she was some kind of rash animal. The heiress registered the touch faster than she process Meredith’s soft words. She almost bit her tongue in surprise before swatting his hand away from her own, and narrowing her eyes. “Unhand me you ungracious pervert.” she said loudly, glaring into what she hoped was the pits of his soul. She couldn’t tell, after all, all she could see was the man’s vibrant green eyes.
Sasha’s expression faltered, switching to confusion than fury. Which was a rather good sign for Meredith. He wouldn’t be having a French manicure claw at his face any time soon. “Is my God…sated?” she echoed stupidly. She stared at the stranger for a moment, covering her mouth as she saw how ridiculous the naked merman looked with her small coat on. It was obviously too small for him judging by how the fabric bent around his arms. Oh dear, it was probably getting stretched…She sighed, relaxing as the man hadn’t really attempted to harm her. /I think he’s mentally ill…/ the woman judged, her feature softening as she attempted to return the smile. A pitying smile you gave to a cute but stupid animal that had slammed into a glass door. That kind of smile. So far, Meredith just seemed rather dimwitted. Especially, since he hadn’t understood what she had wanted to cover up was not…covered up. Sasha was a beginner rancher but a rancher nonetheless. She had toughened up in the months that she had lived in Sepalum. However, she was still very much a sensitive young woman. As her eyes tailed downward, her neck her for God’s sake!, she saw the man bare legs. Much to her dismay, she had seen them again. “O-Oh my word!” the florist sputtered as the blood rushed back into her pale face.

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
Eddy made sure to unhand her, hopefully quickly enough for her to stop being upset. He couldn't help but be even more amused; this human woman reminded him of some of the mermaids he'd known. She switched from emotion to emotion almost quicker than he could keep track; silent, furious, confusion. The too small jacket itched on his body, but it was a gift, clearly! So no way was he going to take it off. See, even humans knew royalty- wait no. He was trying to fit in, incognito amongst the humans. He was doing it all wrong. Regardless, he would find a gift for her. Later, when he could get his hands on something she might like, definitely. And she called him a pervert. But he wasn't doing anything perverted at all! He wasn't touching her inapropriately or leering at her body. As she sighed and smiled at him, he flashed her some of his pearly whites. This was a good thing; she seemed to finally stop being mad, and who knows what could have happened if she got angry. He might not like it if she got angry. Perish the thought. "Yes, your god. You asked me to cover up for him, and so I did." The male fought silently against the jacket as it attempted to keep him bent over. Wait did humans even worship the regular gods? Why would monsters do such a thing though? Maybe she was just an oddball amongst them. Oh how he wanted to ask her all kinds of things about her religion, if she had such a thing. Research fish get! Except... what was she looking at now? His eyes followed her gaze downwards and... oh. That thing. His emerald hues squinted. So that wasn't hidden anymore huh. If he had a sense of shame he'd almost be embarassed, but this was his body and he was proud of it. He straightened up with a loud r i i i p for her to get a better look at it, seeing as she was just staring after all. Did humans not have these either? Maybe they were more different than even he could have imagined. Her face turning that lovely red shade sort of made him worried, however. "Will you be well, human...?" His eyes softened into one of concern; if she became sick the wagon could come to life and eat her, and that would not happen under his watch, no sir! However, all good things must come to an end, just like Sasha's jacket being in one piece. Meredith felt a strange sensation in his hips, fly away now, and bam! After a flash of light ( the second or third time he's flashed her, the author notes ), his bare human legs had once again become fused together, forming a very long, bright green tailfin that extended all the way to Sasha's cute boots. "Oh that," man he just transformed in front of a human. A light blush crept up his neck: "Don't be alarmed, and..." A hesitation. Well, no shame till the end: "Don't kill me." Wait. "Please." Right, she was a well mannered human, maybe he could appeal to her. How fabulous he looked though, having fallen onto his ass and perched perfectly on a bale of hay. Well this was it. If she was going to eat him by god she had her chance as he was busy cringing and squeezing his eyes shut. Not like he could exactly hop up and run away while on the wagon.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,bTable][atrb=style, width:360px; padding:5px; background-color:#eee;] all my dead friends look a lot like you | [atrb=style, background-color:#333; max-width:360px; ] Sasha didn’t mean to stare! Honestly, she didn’t! The blonde knew better than to look at such indecent things. However, now that it was out in the open her gaze couldn’t help but trail below the waist. Whatever the case, she forcibly turned to the right to look at anything, ANYTHING, but her companion. Why was no one boarding the damn wagon? Or even OFFERING something for the merman to cover his lower half with! She probably should have stopped hoping for that though. After all it had been roughly five minutes? Maybe more? And nothing! How incompetent. The blonde focused on the only thing keeping her from very ungracefully running away in embarrassment. It wasn’t Meredith’s fault he was a little thick.
That was probably the understatement of the year. “You didn’t exactly cover up in the way I had hoped…” the heiress muttered, blue eyes trained on the corner of the wagon. “You are taking this a bit too literally.” She added a bit more loudly, trying to clarify the statement. He acted foreign, taking her words too literally. Now that she thought of it maybe there was a hint of an accent? She couldn’t tell. The situation was a bit distressing. Though she couldn’t help but sympathize just a bit with the naked man. How bitterly cold it must have been and how utterly confusing everything probably was. How overwhelmingly daft Eddy was. Sasha cringed at the sound of her lovely coat being destroyed right in front of her. She didn’t want to look at the friendly brunette even more. It hadn’t been worn much at all and now it was probably unfixable. How did she get caught up in such a horrible situation…? “H-Human?” she sputtered caught off guard by the statement. That was too out of place. “Of course I’ll be alright it’s just a coat!” Sasha added quickly assuming that was what he referred to. She shielded her eyes from the sudden sight before turning to the source. Her jaw dropped in awe at the sight of the stranger suddenly having grown a tail?
The realization almost knocked her off her feet. It all made sense now. Meredith wasn’t just foreign he was a completely different species. It explained the way he articulated himself, and why he was completely naked. The florist lifted a hand wanting to touch the tip of the merman’s scaly tail before retracting her palm. No, now was not the time to be rude. She knew there were mermaids wandering about in town. It wasn’t anything new, but that didn’t change the fact that she had never encountered one before. She lived much too deep inland to ever meet a merperson. And to add to the ridiculousness of it all was Meredith, blushing at the unwanted transformation. Sasha giggled, savoring how the tables had turned. It was her turn to be composed. Strange how much more tolerable he was to look at when he was half fish instead of completely human. “Why would I ever do such an uncouth act, Merman?” Sasha replied, her lips forming a small but smug smile as she watched Eddy’s terrified face. She wasn’t too scary looking was she? Hell, moments ago she’d been at the man’s mercy. “Do you realize how far you are away from home, meek one?” she added attempting to imitate his speech patterns.
