We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
Scrush, scrush, scrush. A pair of strong hands kept sinking into the sand, before pushing off and sliding a long, curved forme fowards. Scrush. The sand was soft, sifting through his long fingers. A short breeze picked up, and the male paused with a short gasp. His torso goose prickled, and a pair of green eyes stared upwards at the sky. This... it was beautiful out here. It wasn't murky and dark like the water could be; even in the night, with the moon full in the sky, he could see his surroundings. Mostly, he could see the cove he just crawled out of, but on his left was the ocean, lapping at the sand. Off to the right, very far off, was more of this whole 'land' thing. Guh. He hadn't realized how hard it would be to travel on land, scooting on his butt or belly everywhere. But he wasn't going to give up now, no way jose. He was too close now to just turn around and let his efforts go to waste. His hands jammed downwards, and once more he began to propel himself along the beach. It was peaceful out here too; no signs of life seemed to be around except himself, and the only sounds were his fin dragging along in the sand, and the murmuring of the waves. As time went on ( mayhaps a half hour or so ), he got better and better at scooting, swishing and swaying like a serpent-- and then his hands hit not sand. More accuractly, he palm thrusted into a piece of wood that jutted out from the sand, seemingly placed for no reason. The male bit back the strangled moan that threatened to leave his mouth, and instead clutched onto his pained wrist. A quick glance revealed it to be a simple structure that... lead to the water. Pah! It was as if even destiny was trying to tell him to leave the land and return to the sea, that the land would only harm him. But he was a big, strong mermaid, and he had his mind made up. Firstly though, since no one was around and his wrist REALLY hurt... He was going to quickly sing a song to distract himself from the pain. Not that he was good at singing, but his mother was. A sudden pang struck him but no no no. The male shook his olive hair, as if something were buzzing about his head. "Come along with me, to a town beside the sea. We can wander through the forest, and do so as we please." The male crooned softly to his injured wrist, "Come along with me, to a cliff under a tree. Where we'll gave upon the water as an everlasting dream."And thus, Meredith's first hour on land came to a close.

“Here you go, Turk, good job today,” Cassandra ran her fingers down the neck of her horse who was already munching away at the horse feed she had just set out for him. After checking the rope connecting her pet to a tree she was satisfies that it was tight enough so Turk wouldn’t run away while she went for a walk. Usually she would have taken him along with her for a ride but after spending the whole day traveling around town delivering mail Cassie figured it was time for him to rest. Herself, too. The moon was full, and the night was clear and silent – it would be a waste just to go home.
After discarding her boots and hat and she rolled up the legs of her pants above her ankle. And before she could take off into a sprint along the shore of Rosa Beach, Cassie stood still (something she didn’t do often)and took in the night. The scent of the salty air was refreshing as she took a deep breath and dug her toes into the cool sand. The reflection of the moon on the ocean lit up the beach which remained peaceful and still. Everything was just breathtaking. Cassie wondered if there were any places in this world as stunning; she wanted desperately to see them – to experience such an oasis. But for now, the beach in her hometown would have to suffice.
She stepped closer towards that waves and was startled by how cold the water was. She had expected it to be chilly, It was autumn after all. Cassie’s favorite season; Although it meant that soon there would be less crops on the farm, the frigid air filled her spirit with exuberance. But since the water was too cold, she decided a walk along the sand would be good enough. Maybe there was a fisherman at the dock she could keep company or something.
But even as she neared the wooden walkway, the silence told her she was alone – or so she thought. Amidst the hushing sounds of the water grabbing at the shore, something different caught Cassie’s ear. She couldn’t make out exactly what it was but the closer she got to the dock, the clearer the sounds became. Someone was singing? Still about 30ft from the man-made structure of wood, Cassie could barely make out a shadowy figure of a man sitting near the edge of the dock. She didn’t call out so as not to interrupt his song, but as she quietly took steps nearer it looked as if he were hurt. The farmer was near enough now to reveal this man’s face – one she didn’t recognize – that showed an emotion of pain as he seemed to be cradling his wrist. Was he hurt?!
“Hey, are you okay?” She finally called out to the stranger as she ran to his side where her knees fell to the sand do she could better examine his condition. The first thing she noticed was that he wasn’t from around Primula. After growing up on the peninsula and now delivering mail to most of the town, it was safe to say that Cassie knew mostly everyone who lived around here – or was at least able to recognize them. With the man’s strong figure and handsome face, she was sure he’d be recognizable if she had seen him before. She also noticed he was shirtless. Was this guy out of his mind? Even if you were crazy enough to swim in the cold autumn water, swimming in the ocean at night was a bad idea. Why risk swimming into the unknown dangers of the ocean in the dark? Cassie looked at his legs to see if he had a– wait a second.
Her amber colored eyes grew almost as wide as the moon and her lips resembled the shape of an “O”. There had always stories about these magical beings; Creatures that looked half like a human but they lived in the water. It was certainly possible for such a mystical creature to exist, but no one in Sepalum had ever seen one. As fascinated as she was by the thought of such an enchanting creature, Cassie never would have thought she would actually see one. At least, not on the shores of Rosa beach. “Are – are you a – a,” the words stumbled out of Cassie’s mouth. She almost doubted that this was even real, a tick or something that someone was playing on her “A mermaid?! A real one?!”

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
The male instantly halted his singing with a quick jerk of his head. He'd totally thought he was alone out here tonight; maybe if he hadn't made any noise he wouldn't have been discovered. Who knows? Who was there? So many questions that were filling his mind like fish in a net. The olive coloured hair swayed harshly from side to side as he turned to see who'd spotted him, his long body turning and- oh!
She came right on down next to him in the sand, and was checking him out. That was okay, because he was checking her out as well. A real human, in the flesh, and she didn't seem hostile or anything! Rather the opposite, he observed. By merfolk standards, she was pretty. Granted, she didn't have a gorgeous tail fin, and her body was cloaked in some weird... things. He didn't know what to call her clothes, but he could see she had a face very similar to his own. No jagged teeth, pure white soulless eyes, or spines anywhere. The male leaned in slightly, eyes running over every inch of her face as he examined her further. A petite nose, and lightly coloured cheeks aside of it. Two very large, and soft looking amber hued eyes, complete with long eyelashes. A pair of delicate and elegant looking brown eyebrows. Pink lips, sitting neatly above a small round chin, and framing the whole piece was long brown hair that he could see clearly in the moonlight. Even if humans turned out to be the fearsome monsters from stories, they were beautiful monsters.
Oh. The first question she'd asked was almost totally lost in his memory now, barring a bit that confused him. He was a huge swirling mixture of emotions right now; a touch of pain, excitement, anxiety, curiousity, and every feeling demanded he pay his due immediately. A pair of hands slowly came up, and the male attempted to gently land them on her cheeks as she asked him a second question, feeling a bit rough from all the sand. A large grin burst out on his face; her expression amused him very much, as did her question. "That is so. I am Meredith, the eldest son of Nereus and Rhode." Fascinating. They were so similar, and yet half of a human body was completely different than a merperson's. If his hands had made it to her face, he'd gently tug her towards him to leave her mere inches from his own face. A pair of sparking green eyes seemed to dance as he trawled over every inch of her face, as if they were excited to see her. Which, truthfully, was how he felt.
Oh man how he just wanted to explode in a word-splosion and just ask her every question he'd ever wanted to ask. A pause and then: "What is your name, human?" Ah but almost as importantly: "And what is an okay?" Human slang what.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true] you're the only person who reminds me NOW DON'T YOU BLINK OR IT'S GONE APPROXIMATELY 649 WORDS THIS POST IS FOR MEREDITH THE MUSIC INSPIRING IS " DON'T BLINK " BY RELIENT K. Oops... sorry this is later than I promised xP
Years ago – on the very same beach, in fact – during the summer and any chance they got, Cassie and her sister would play around in the water while pretending they had a fin of a mermaid themselves. What little girl didn’t dream of living in the ocean with a pet dolphin or two and riding around on a seahorse. Actually, Cassandra wasn’t all that sure if a mermaid’s life was as glamorous as she imagined. Albeit, all her answers were now here in front of her! There was a real merman!
Maybe she would have been more conscious of him closely observing her every part of her body if she weren’t doing the same thing herself. His skin wasn’t shriveled up after being in the water for so long like a human beings would. He didn’t have gills, or seaweed for hair. No, he looked like healthy and handsome human – except for the fin that replaced the part of the body where a human would have had legs. It was enchantingly beautiful, and Cassie couldn’t help but stare as the light of the full moon reflected off of the scales that covered the merman’s fin. To the girl, his tail didn’t remind her anything of a fish, it was much more magical. She was almost tempeted to reach out and touch it, but didn’t want to offend the being in front of her. Meredith – he had proclaimed his name was.
“Wow… it’s a pleasure,” she could barely utter in bewilderment. Their eyes finally met each others and Cassie realizing that he was just as much in awe at her presence as she was of his. A grin broke out on her face that probably couldn’t stretch and wider if she tried to. She was very pleased he spoke the same language as her, otherwise it would be hard for her get the answers to all her questions. It seemed that Meredith also had a few questions of his own, too.
His ignorance of such a common phrase to humans was charming. Cassandra couldn’t help but laugh as she was already of the verge of bliss just being able to experience such a wonder. “I’m Cassie, eldest daughter of Thomas and Anna,” she mimicked his introduction, although she realized hers sounded a lot less extravagant than his. “An ‘okay,’” she continued, pausing to think about how to define such a simple word, “is a term used to describe if you are feeling well. So I was asking you if you were hurt or needed help.” It wasn’t normal for such a creature to be leisurely sitting on the beach. Cassie was really pleased that she had found him though.
A light sea breeze swept her soft brown hair to the side and suddenly reminded her that Meredith had no cloths on. “Aren’t you cold?!” It was regular for her to fret over others like this – maybe because she was an older sister. Quickly she tried to think of a solution, even if her new acquaintance denied her help. It wouldn’t be good if he caught a cold – that is, if he could catch a cold… Caasie would offer her own jacket for him to wear, but it would barely fit his broad shoulders, so she searched through her bag for something useful. “Here,” she warmly smiled as she took a light scarf out of her bag and leaned nearer to Meredith so she could drape it around his neck. “I know it’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.”

We'll meet beyond the shore
we'll kiss just as before
The young merman would continue to hold onto her face until she broke it off. A pleasure, she had said. This made Meredith very happy; he had not been too sure how a human would react with him being so up close and personal. Some mermaids disliked it, while others did not seem to mind. Mayhaps humans were the same. Even with just meeting Cassie, the daughter of Thomas and Anna, kept turning all that he thought he 'knew' about humans all over. As he thought about her parents, a momentary pang of his own floated to the surface of his mind. Would they approve of such a meeting, of merfolk and humans? To be frank, not in his case, not after he lied his ass off everywhere just to get here.
But to him, it was oh so worth it thus far. He never felt so happy as he did on a slightly chilly beach, simply listening to Cassie explain the 'okay' to him. An odd term, though. His tail fin twitched slightly, leaving an odd design in the sand alongside his trail. "Then Cassie," The male began slowly, making sure he said pronounced her name as she had, "I'm definitely okay now, thanks to you." Master of everything, including the new world's strange words. He was certainly proud of himself; he would fit in just fine soon enough at this rate. And he was not lying; she helped make his journey all the more worthwhile. Any amount of pain was a small cost to pay to have finally accomplished his lifelong dream.
Did he need help? No, surely he could handle himself in this strange new world on his own, he was pretty strong...! Just slow going. The slightly injured part of his hand ached as if to remind him that things were not one hundred percent, but he ignored it, because mere flesh wounds did not compare to mythical beings, like not at all.
The breeze picked up and he couldn't help stare at her face while the moon shone down on it. Almost radiant, like the sun was out. Except moonlight wasn't blinding, and he liked the way it looked on her. A slight shiver went through his body; not because of the cold, but the way she looked prior to asking the question made her very countenance look magical. Maybe she actually was.
His bright green eyes blinked in confusion at her words. Cold? No no no, he was perfectly well. But before he could raise an arm in protest, she had reacted quickly, and once again she was very, very close to him. Around his neck, a soft, odd thing came to a rest. But! With a breath, he caught a short whiff of her hair. She smelled so different from anyone he'd ever... smelled. But it was an alluring smell, not salty but... oh god he did not have the words. Earthy? He sort of leaned forward, to the side of her head as she finished draping it around his neck, trying to catch more of her scent. "I'm grateful," he murmured, practically into her ear-- unless she had pulled away or something ( because he was really violating some personal bubble space now ). "It's a wonderful thing, Cassie." One of his hands plucked at it, rubbing the soft fabric between his thumb and forefinger. "May I know what it is?" Someday, he would have to get her something equally as amazing as this. Someday.
